  1. Nice job zipsoutsider. Woodson is the MVP of this team. Coach said it right, he throws the ball before the receivers turn around, that's hard to defend. If I were coaching, I would have a hard time taking Woodson off the field and punting the ball anytime I was anywhere near midfield. I am still amazed at the play of Alvin Davis. He is always around the ball, his anticipation is great. Congratulations to the defense for stepping up in the second half and winning that game. They looked like a totally different unit the second half. Nice job of mixing the run and the pass second half, AJ seemed to get into a good groove, and a great halfback pass call. The staff must have a great environment created if they have guys like Jamal Marcus willing to play injured. Very unselfish move. I like rooting for a team with guys that have that kind of team attitude. Makes me think of that video posted when coach gives the team the definition of pride.
  2. Zips win, score 35, and hold the Cardinals to 256 yards rushing. Congratulations to kreed5120, gmann17, zipsoutsider, Zip-Zap, LZip, Zipmlady, gozips19 and Ham, who answered all three correctly. Because of the game Thursday, Three for Thursday™ will start on Tuesday this week.
  3. I thought "color rush" was just an NFL term to market more gear, apparently not.
  4. Correction printed yesterday on the story indicating no burning.
  5. Odds Shark score prediction models pick a 23-15 result in favor of the Zips on Saturday. Odds Shark Power Rankings have the Ball State Cardinals at No. 113 and the Akron Zips at No. 63 heading into this contest. The game pits Ball State's No. 69-ranked offense, averaging 28.43 PPG, against a Akron defense that ranks No. 109 this week at 34.57 PPG. The Ball State aerial game is averaging 217.57 yards per game, less than the Akron Zips secondary allows through the air, 280.43 YPG per game. Defensively, the Akron Zips feature the league's No. 66-rated road run defense, allowing 182 yards per game. Ball State, meanwhile, ranks No. 81 in rushing offense at home.
  6. He is a good follow on Twitter. I wish him all the best at the job, because he seems to be a great guy from the few conversations I've had with him.
  7. Upgraded to 4.1.16. There is some reindexing going on in the background that may cause some early morning performance issues, but this should clear up by 9 am. If not, I'll repost an update here.
  8. An open letter to alumni and friends of the University from Roland H. Bauer, chair of UA’s Board of Trustees: Dear Alumnus/Friend, I want to share some good news with you. The University’s Board of Trustees — following discussions with representatives of the faculty and administration, and with the encouragement of leaders from our undergraduate student body, Alumni Association and the greater Akron community -- today voted to remove the term “interim” from the titles of President Matthew J. Wilson and Senior Vice President and Provost Rex D. Ramsier. As you know, President Wilson accepted the responsibilities of leading this institution in July. He has demonstrated exceptional energy, judgment and passion in his efforts to re-establish relations on campus and within the community. He has held more than 60 meetings with donors and businesses, government and community leaders; conducted “town halls” with colleges and academic units; and personally visited with students, principals and counselors at nearly two dozen area high schools. The Board designated five priorities for him to address as interim president: developing a sustainable budget; increasing enrollment; accelerating our progress in increasing student retention; rebuilding and strengthening relationships with our various constituencies; and, significantly growing our development efforts. He has made substantial progress in each area with potential for further success. At the same time, Dr. Ramsier’s depth of experience as a faculty member and administrator, his personal devotion to the University as an alumnus, and his broad knowledge of national accrediting agencies and their procedures has secured the confidence of the Board as well. President Wilson and Dr. Ramsier can provide stable, collaborative and proven leadership needed for this University to resume its growth and continue its service to the community. At the urging of many respected voices both within and outside the University, the decision was made to move forward with the talent and experience already at hand. As President Wilson repeatedly reminds external audiences, we are the same University of Akron that has earned numerous national academic rankings and recognitions, and that produces outstanding graduates valued for their ability and ambition. It is time for us to work together to leverage these strengths and reclaim a bright future for our community and ourselves. Thank you for all you do to support The University of Akron. Sincerely, Roland H. Bauer
  9. Feel free to discuss your answers below. Members that answer all three correctly will be recognized Sunday morning.
  10. #6 Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan While the volume hasn’t been there for Davis this season (61 targets through seven games), Davis remains perhaps the best wide receiver in the class due to his excellent route-running, body control and after-the-catch ability. He projects as a short and intermediate threat at the next level with just enough downfield ability to complete the package. ------------------------------------- If we are lucky enough to play them again, I would shadow Davis with DeAndre Scott, I thought he did the best job with him because of his physical play. He should have been credited with the int against him. Tough call.
  11. Violation, or Legal? 2011 PD article.
  12. Fans are invited to attend the Zips' 2016 Basketball Media Day, presented by the Wentz Financial Group, on Thursday, Oct. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Student Union. 13. I hope it means he is playing, but I have no clue. He did a similar thing on his Instagram page last night.
  14. Coach addresses destroying the "oar" before the game. According to coach, it has become the players home-field tradition to smash a 2x4 with some (written) record on it before the game, instead of the 2x4 the players decided to use an oar. Coach said he didn't know about it, and hopes nobody from WMU is offended. He mentioned Alvin Davis and Camara did a nice job last week when asked about a silver lining. He also mentioned Lacko made his first start, and he made a lot of tackles, but too far downfield. He recognizes that Ball State is a run first team, and the Zips are struggling to stop the run. Nobody asked about injuries, so nothing was offered. Nobody asked about the starting QB, so nothing was offered.
  15. LeBron will attending classes at the University of Akron, not Columbus. A university spokesman confirmed that James is "signed up" to take classes when he's able. It's not hard to imagine how something was worked out -- Akron did, after all, rename its college of education the LeBron James Family Foundation College of Education.
  16. Find one near you. Just about any embroidery shop can do what you like. Just ask. If they don't already have the logo in the proper file format, most will make you one for around $40. Ask for a sample. They will give you one on backing. Also ask about the stitch count. You want more thread so the embroidery doesn't look loose.
  17. Jojo Natson has been upgraded to "probable." Ball State favored by two in Vegas. Bulls perspective on their loss to Ball State last week. You could go back and watch last week's Ball State vs Buffalo game on ESPN3.
  18. I know your trying to be funny, and this is not the correct thread for this. But back in October of 2000, when SI was a must read, Dwight Smith had an article entitled 'Akron's Interception King Smith Having a Breakout Year'. I thought some might enjoy the article. I also remember Jamal Ball in an issue, and I'm sure Jason Taylor has been in multiple times.
  19. 18th best in the nation Western Michigan Broncos The expectation was that Western Michigan’s unbeaten start to the season would be tested on the road against Akron, but those expectations proved greatly exaggerated as the Broncos cruised to a 41-0 victory. One key for the Broncos has been the play of the offensive line, here right tackle Taylor Moton (83.0 overall) and left tackle Chukwuma Okorafor (78.8), earned the two highest grades on offense. source: pff
  20. Brock Boxen had surgery today, and is out for the season. "8 screws, 1 plate, out for the season but surgery went well" per Brock's Instagram. Get Well Brock.
  21. This week's Sports Illustrated.
  22. Woodson is a difference maker at the most important position in the game. The injuries are significant and are eating into our depth. Some good fortune has to be around the corner with all the bad luck they are having in the injury department. Coach commented in a presser that the offensive play calling doesn't change between the two QBs. I would alter that philosophy this week if Tra was going to start again. Not a lot, just limit some of the crossing middle deep options. I might use the 12 personnel some more.
