  1. I would love for both men's and women's soccer to win the MAC and make some noise in the postseason. I actually hope the men aren't ranked as high so to relieve the pressure a little bit. With so many new faces, I would like to see the men play good consistent soccer and continue dominating. Getting to the postseason into at least the Elite Eight would be a major accomplishment for how many new guys we have. Maybe surprise people as I don't know if too many think the Zips will be quite as good as previous teams. For the women, I'd like to see them be better and make a run at the MAC Championship. Preferably win it. If they do that, it would be great to see them make a run in the postseason. Of course I would love both teams to win the conference and win the NCAA Championship. I can dream big can't I?
  2. I don't like OSU to begin with but the way the NCAA is handling these investigations and how hard to punish the schools is really irritating me. I actually sent the NCAA an email to voice my concerns but I highly doubt they care and would take the time to respond. I wanted to vent my growing anger towards them and how they handle investigations. It took them how long to find information on USC? They punish USC was loss of schalorships, post season bans, vacated wins and all because of one football and basketball player. If the NCAA ever wants to clean up college football then they have to be consistent with their penalties. You can't harshly punish one school and not the other. Hit these schools hard with what will hurt the most and that is losing schalorships and post season bans. OSU's self inflicted penalties of probation and vacating wins from last year is a joke. You wonder why you get no respect? OSU needs to grow-up. Man up and take responsibility. Accept losing schalorships and facing postseason bans for at least two years. If this kind of thing ever happened to Akron, what do you think the NCAA would do? I would bet they would come down hard. I guess we'll wait to see in August, but if the NCAA doesn't do something drastic to OSU, I don't know how much credibility they would have. I don't want to see OSU go unpunished just because it's OSU. I can see the backlash if that were to happen. All I want is consistency in punishment.
  3. It's going to take a total team effort to beat OSU not only by the players but also the coaching staff. If there is ever a chance to beat that school down south it is now. We could have beaten them that one year but the defense was on the field majority of the time because the offense didn't do anything. Everyone has to do their job.The coaches need to prepare our guys and call the right plays. I think the Zips are going to be motivated anyway because it is OSU. Majority, if not all the guys on the team would never get a sniff from OSU to play there. That should light a fire in them.I don't know if it matters which qb gets the start. The offensive line needs to block and create holes for the running backs. The qb needs to get the ball and throw it to the WR, TE, RB. Those guys need to catch the ball and be smart about their surroundings. No fumbles and try to make plays down the field. Kickers need to do their job. Special teams needs to do their job. The defense needs to stop the OSU offense and try to force negative plays. Most importantly, the coaches need to be on their A game. Don't be conservative. Keep OSU on their toes. I say go all out for this game. It is still OSU no matter who is on the sideline and who is playing. I don't know about anyone else here, but I want to beat them badly. Continue their miserable year by kicking their butt at their stadium infront of their fans. GO ZIPS! the Buckeyes.
  4. That is exciting to see. I wonder if it's going to be a home and home series with WVU. A game like that can really fill up the JAR.
  5. I've been to Akron baseball games and sitting on those wood bleachers is not comfortable. It would be nice if the whole field and surrounding area was redone to actually look like a college ballpark. I have not seen the other MAC school's baseball facilities, but I would think they would be better then Akron. It just amazes me when I watch college baseball on television and see the ballparks teams have. As far as the next coach, I would like someone who was at some big school. It would be nice to get someone who was an assistent coach on a SEC, Big 12, ACC or even Pac 10 team. Get someone who knows college baseball and can really be a good coach/mentor to the student athletes. I know college baseball isn't as big in the MAC then maybe in the SEC, but I would still like someone who can bring experience and a winning attitude to Akron. I really enjoy college baseball and it would be great to build a winning program at Akron. I don't know who our A.D will pick, but since he hired our football coach, I really don't know.
  6. Sorry but I can't stand LeBron. I am beyond happy he and the Heat failed. The qoutes he made at the press conference were just plain classless. Someone needs to give him some classes on speaking to the media. You can't blame the media for what he says and does, he brings it on himself. I don't know how people can still love this guy after all he's done. I don't want to hear that he's from Akron. He had a chance to do something special by playing on the Cavs. Gilbert and the entire organization went all out to make LeBron happy. Remember that LeBron was the one who asked Gilbert and the GM to get these players. I think LeBron never wanted to win here infront of Northeast Ohio. He wanted to join his buddies somewhere else which was Miami. He does not care! Don't you think if he cared he would have stayed and did all he could he win a championship right here? Wouldn't that mean more to him then if he won in Miami? Miami doesn't have any real fans! Can we please stop this Akron vs. Cleveland. It's just plain stupid and makes me sick that people are stooping to this low. Last time I checked, we're in Northeast Ohio. Same goes with other cities like Medina, Strongsville, Akron, Brunswick, Berea, etc. Want to attack them too? It's bad enough that the entire state gets laughed at nationally. We don't need more of this with cities now attacking one another. How can you tell where people are from anyway? I'd like to ask LeBron that since he "Hates Cleveland". Does he and people realize that fans drove from all over the state and even out of state to see him play. Can we all just hope that something good happens for once? Especially when it comes to sports? While it's nice to have college teams do well, lets be real here. People want to see one of the three professional teams win a championship and yes they're in Cleveland.
  7. What people are also forgetting about the SI article is that the guy who wrote it won a Pulitzer for his investigating work involving the Minnesota basketball program. He was the last sports writer to win an honor like that. He knows what he is doing as I would take his word over other people. I read the article and it just made me angry. I hope the NCAA comes down hard on OSU. Should be harder then what USC got. With USC it was one football player who screwed up and look what happened to them. With OSU, it is multiple football players and Tressel was involved big time. The NCAA should lay down sanctions on Tressel and OSU. Ban Tressel from any coaching positions for a couple years and punish the football program by taking away schlorships, vacating wins and place a postseason ban for at least two years or even more. I would like for them to get their national title revoked but I don't see it happening. I don't like OSU to begin with as they think they are above everyone else but all this just makes me hate them even more. If the NCAA wants to clean up college athletics and send a strong message to everyone then they had better come down very hard on OSU. If they don't then there will be an uproar.
  8. I still love the Cavs. I actually believe the Cavs would have beaten the Celtics of this year. We'll never know since that jerk left to go chase his championship. I'm strongly cheering for someone to knock the Heat out and give that jerk and his group a few bumps and bruises. Since Boston let me down, Go Bulls!
  9. That's awesome! Man, I hope the NCAA comes down hard on them. As Austin Carr on the Cavs broadcast would say, "and they throw the hammer down!"
  10. Congrats to the tennis team. Good luck to them in the NCAA Tournament.
  11. Currently watching this on t.v as I'm typing. Hope everyone on the west coast takes this seriuously. The images are just powerful. I have family and friends on the west coast so I hope they are paying attention and staying safe. Stay safe everyone and I wish the best for everyone affected by this earthquake and tsunami.
  12. So happy! They all got drafted. Took longer then expected to see Ampi and Korb get drafted. Seven more Zips in MLS. Be interesting to see how many of them see playing time right off the bat. I was hoping Columbus would draft a Zip. Be smart of them to have a local guy on the team. It's still a great day. Now who am I going to cheer for? Cheer for all the Zips.
  13. The whole game stunk. Zips were just bad and I thought both teams were going to have guys foul out. I thought the refs weren't going to get out of the arena alive with the way they called the game. I thought Ohio faked a lot of fouls. I was close to the action so I saw a lot of that. Freeman crying of getting elbowed by Zeke. Zeke is 7 feet, Freeman was like 6-5, what do you expect. Cooper holding his face as Mcness flew over him. Was not touched. Of course Cooper was doing a lot of jawing the whole game and even after the game. Something went down as the teams exited the court. It was just a bad game all around. I hope the Zips get back on track in Buffalo. One thing about Ohio is that they live and die on the three. They can't be shooting threes every game and making them.
  14. Two Zips are still left on the board: Ampi and Korb. Come on, someone draft these two.
  15. According to the athletics' website the events are scheduled for halftime of the Jan. 12 versus Ohio game and then a formal celebration on the 18th that starts at 5:30pm. I agree the team deserves something bigger and better, but it's better then nothing. I hope they make an announcement during the Can't game tonight. Better yet, make lots of announcements throughout the game tonight.
  16. While I love beating Can't at any sport, I agree that a win over OSU would be huge. It's been way too long since an in-state school beat OSU. I don't care if they are missing six players key to their team. To beat them at their place infront of 100,000+ scarlett and gray glad fans would be priceless. What would make a victory over them even better is if they are ranked #1 and knock them out of the national title race. GO ZIPS!
  17. While I wish some of the underclassmen would have stayed, I understand their decision to go pro. It will be awesome to have 7 more Zips represent MLS. To have that many guys likely to go in the first round from one school just speaks volumes of what an incredible job Porter has done. I don't care what sport it is. To have 7 guys likely going in the first round of any pro draft is just amazing. Looks like Porter is going to have to recruit more guys to replace the 7 we'll be losing. Next year is going to be very interesting and might have to be a rebuilding or reloading year. This team is going to need everyone's support next year. I still believe they will do well, but there might be some struggles as this team comes together. GO ZIPS! Congrats guys and good luck with your pro careers.
  18. I wear my Akron gear anyway. Now that I have my National Championship t-shirt and sweatshirt, I wear them whenever I can. Thought I'd get more compliments though. Wore the sweatshirt to a Zips basketball game but no one said anything.
  19. That's awesome. I like Drew Carey. An avid northeast Ohio sports guy. Great hearing from former players too. GO ZIPS!
  20. Where was he early on during the soccer team's success? Didn't say one word about them until they won. While it was nice of him to give props, I still hate the guy. I hate the way he did The Decision. That's what has everyone upset is the way he did it. A stupid 1 hour + show on national and likely international tv. He didn't even have the guts to let the organization know. If he would have let the organization know and set out a press release or something like that, then people would likely have accepted his decision. Can we please stop this negativity towards Cleveland and the Cavs. Same for you LeBron. Not everyone who supports the Cavs is from Cleveland. People from all over Ohio and even out of state support the Cavs. I'm sure people drove from all over the state to see the Cavs, even when LeBron was here. While the NBA is not my top pro sport I'm actually a bigger Cavs fan now. I'm just sick and tired of all this negativity towards Cleveland and Ohio in general. This is a hardworking, blue collar community that deserves to have something good happen. The Zips managed to ease the pain a little bit. I'm beyond thrilled we won the national championship. We also have to face it that people want one of the pro teams to win a title. LeBron gave everyone the best chance but he couldn't do it and left. Let's be honest here. Wouldn't it have been amazing if LeBron helped lead the Cavs to a title? Right here in northeast Ohio. What good is it if he wins in Miami? That's just my opinion.
  21. I would love to welcome the team back. I just don't know about this weather. Can't they arrive when there isn't a winter storm. Wish them a safe flight back. The team does deserve a parade or something big like that. An honor during halftime of a men's baseketball game is ok but I feel they deserve something bigger. They could get an honor at a Cavs game, but either people won't show up or show up but then leave after they get honored. It's too bad the Cavs are struggling because the Q could have been full of people. They could have shown highlights on the jumbotron. Thanks LeBron. Either way, there needs to be a celebration for the Zips soccer team.
  22. I guess we should remember that Lolla helped build the Akron soccer program. When he left, I wondered how the program would do. Boy did we get a gem of a coach in Porter. He's taken Akron soccer to a whole new level. Bringing in top recruits, a new facility (finally) and competing on a national level. Akron Zips soccer is in good hands. I hope Porter stays around for a while and he seems to want to continue building the program. I will say that beating our old coach to win the national championship is beyond sweet. Man I love saying National Champions.
  23. That is so awesome. I was smiling the whole time. With all this snow, wish I was out in Santa Barbara. GO ZIPS!
  24. OMG I'm so happy! I was so nervous the whole match but they did it. I'm just glad we didn't go into penalty kicks. To beat our old coach and the then #1 team is sweet. Congrats Zips! 2010 National Champions Akron Zips. Love the sound of that. I want to know when the team gets back and where the parade is going to be. Want some merchandise too.
  25. It would be funny if the Suckeyes ended up playing Boise or TCU in a bowl game and got a severe beatdown.
