That's amazing. Sheen is not alone.

It's a 15-seed against a 2-seed. That's happened four times in 104 tries. It's the MAC against the Big East. Gulp. But there are some going on record and boldly selecting the upset:Steve Zakuani, Seattle Sounders. That's because the midfielder played his college ball at Akron. In his guest-bracket with The (Everett, Washington) Herald, Zakuani is admittedly "picking completely with my heart" by putting his Zips in the second round.
Natalie Pasquarella, WSOC Charlotte news anchor. Her sister apparently went to Akron. That's reason enough, and non-basketball logic is quite often the sanest reason to pick and upset. That's why everybody went with Morehead State over Louisville, right?
@vegaswatch. I'm unsure what his reason is, but it's inconsequential to the point. Although do you want someone who has difficulty counting words?
Google. Yes, Google thinks Akron will beat Notre Dame. This is according to SEO expert Jonathan Hoekman, who culled Google Trends keywords and saw that more people are searching for Akron Zips than the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Kangaroos are so popular right now.

A flash is what loses to a zip. A zip is what beats a flash.
It's really that simple.

I laugh because it's Ken+, but it also saddens me to see how the MAC has fallen. As a conference, our #15 should be a wake up call too.
Exactly. I know it's our rival, but we should really be rooting for the MAC in the post season. The more wins the MAC can garner, the better off the Akron program will be in the future. It's going to be Can't/Akron and a few other teams for the next few years. The better the conference is the better seed we get in the future.

It's wierd how up until this game, Can't fans(the 15 or so who call ncaabbs their home) kept complaining about how classless Akron fans were. I didn't notice anything like that at the Championship game. I typically find it moronic when one fan base calls another "classless". What do you expect with a heated rivalry like this? That said, there were certain groups of Can't fans who we saying/chanting some questionable things that crossed the line in my opinion.
I'm sure Akron had it's fair share of knuckleheads, but it seemed like I couldn't look at the Jumbotron without seeing an "Akron Sucks" poster.

I don't agree with most of what EA said but I do think that the top of the West is getting closer to the top of the East, won't quite be there next year but maybe the year after the better West teams can at least beat the bottom half of the East. The bottom of the West teams, though, who knows? I imagine Toledo will get better eventually but EMU, CMU, and NIU are huge question marks for the foreseeable future.
Prove it
Anyone who watched the Can't/BSU or Akron/WMU game has all the proof they need.

Actually, I also noticed that last night. The average Can't State fan is old. And most of them are fat. Literally. No insult meant here; simply an honest observation. Weird. Probably a Portage County thing?
I noticed the same thing. Those black squirrels must be high in trans fat.
Now let's see how many Can't grads know what trans actually means.

When Can't State dunks, I will not quiet, but instead I will begin a LETS GO ZIPS cheer to get our players into an offensive rhythm. When we miss a shot I will not look dejected but instead I will be screaming DEFENSE at the top of my lungs to help my team. I will not be like the Can't State fans were tonight against Ball State, waiting for something good to happen before cheering. It's my duty as someone who cares about the Zips to help my team in any way I can and the best way I can is to stay noisy and keep their heads in the right place.
Amen, brother.
As a side note, did anyone see the Can't fans last night? Every time STO gave a shot of them, it was a bunch of old goofballs, many of whom were sitting on their arse. I wouldn't be surprised if Akron brings many more students to the game tonight.
Win or lose, let's show up these quasi-"I brought my OSU shirt with me in case we lose"-Can't State fans.

even bigger break for us if BSU beats Can't.
My thoughts exactly.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see much of a reason to question Dambrot's decisions when it comes to playing time. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but when you're on a seven game winning streak, sometimes it's best to just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Go zips!

Ohh, and it is now 10:24pm......................
..AND Can't STATE STILL SUCKS!
-
Its probably fine in Ohio, its us out of staters that sometimes get screwed over by this stuff.
Okay, thanks.
-
Wait, so will the game be televised on STO if you have basic cable?

''I know what we are. It doesn't matter who we play. We could play the Miami Heat, the Cavaliers or Our Lady of the Elms, and sometimes it looks the same to me,'' Dambrot said. ''It's frustrating. I don't know what I am going to get.''
Very true. It's nice having a coach who isn't afraid to be brutally honest.

Who's absurd now?
Sagarin by about .35 points.

I agree that every universtiy has its strong points..im not trying to put anyone down. I just think OSU has probably the best overall university
Fair enough.
-
No other in state university will probably be able to match what they do academically...
Eh, I don't buy that, LZip.
Case Western, Miami, Kenyon, etc are more prestigious universities than OSU. They just have different missions than the mothership.
Up until ten years ago or so, OSU didn't have very competitive admissions at all. Around that time, it was common knowledge that anyone who went to my old high school with a sub par GPA or better was a shoe-in at OSU. Of course, things have changed, but just about every school in Ohio has it's strong points.
And I agree, some members of this board can be childish about OSU.
-
I imagine it will go to states where high speed rail might make some sense, as opposed to Ohio, which would have a train that would cost an astronomical amount of money and time to develop and for which there is no significant demand. But hey, its free money, so why not.
That'll stick it to those big government blowhards.
Thank goodness those funds are being sent to Illinois. Can you imagine the demand for train rides from Chicago to Springfield? Someone pinch me, I'm dreaming of the possibilities.

Kasich was dead on with wanting the money for other more important things or just no one spending it.
Right. So refresh my memory...where did the $400 mill end up going?
-
Haha. Someone please make a youtube parody.

Thanks for doing this, I always enjoy reading what our competitors have to say. It's refreshing to see that(for the most part) the MAC supports other conference members.
Of course, the only other one that didn't have from what I saw was Can't State. But I don't care about that school to the East, so I didn't search too deep to find anything. That's probably because Can't has perhaps the weakest online fan presence in the MAC. Which is pretty bad.

Playing backyard ball, we'd count 1-Akron U, 2-Akron U, 3-Akron U before we could rush the QB. I've never been offended by it.
That's really cool.
Not being from the area, I used to hate when locals would say "Akron U". But the more I hear it, the more I like it. It's ingrained into the local culture. That isn't a bad thing.

James took the occasion to tweet the Zips:Big S/O and Congratulations to the AKron U Men's Soccer Team on winning the National Cup Championship today! Great for them and for my HomeTown!!

I hate to bring this up at this point but the rumors ofPorter moving on are coming to the surface again. It is now being said that he is heading to NC State. What do you guys who are close to the program think about all this stuff? I am concerned every time I hear this stuff as my grandson is a verbal commit for 2011.
Porter wouldn't leave for another college team. He makes as much as he would anywhere else in the country, and he already has a championship caliber program here in Akron.

Sorry Buckzip. Unfortunately, ZNO is home to a minority of zips fans who at times can act juvenile, at best.
That said, you have to understand their point of view. For their entire life they've had to listen to people tell them that OSU is important and Akron is small time. Likewise, they've had to hear about 'that city up north' and all of it's terrible pro sports franchises. You've got to commend some of these guys for sticking to a team, regardless of how incredibly hard it can be.
As far as OSU fans go--you have to remember that most of fans who post on OSU discussion boards are educated alumni. Most of those guys have respect for Akron's program and it's success. These aren't the same buffoons that local Akronites run into on a daily basis. It's the uneducated nit-wit's who have never stepped foot on OSU's campus(or any campus) that drive Akron fans(and other MAC fans) crazy.
OSU just happens to be good at football. Akron just happens to be good at soccer. Let's move on and celebrate the championship, please.

I agree, the coverage is great. And Andy is right on the money. Any success in the post season in good for the MAC, even if it's your rival. I hate the bobkittens as much as anybody, but when they beat Georgetown it brought a LOT of publicity to the MAC.
