  1. But will the TV revenue be there if Houston, Eastern Carolina, Memphis, and Central Florida leave for greener pastures? I still wonder about the travel costs. Even in the East Division here's the three closest opponents: Marshall-4 hours ECU-9 hours Memphis-11 hours If CUSA leftovers and the more "motivated" MAC programs(Akron, Toledo, Buffalo, Ohio) ever get together and form something in the future, then it's doable. One of the MAC's strengths is that we(currently) don't have to play teams that say, 'yall'. It's much cheaper that way.
  2. On a lighter note... http://www.ohio.com/news/top_stories/100939559.html
  3. Doug Martin is such a goofball.
  4. This is too good to be true.
  5. What? You mean students won't pay to watch Oliver!? How about Black Violin? At least they don't beat around the bush...
  6. 1.Akron 38.45% 2.Buffalo 26.80% 3.Temple 19.02% 4.Can't State 13.85% Total votes: 2533 They are catching up...
  7. http://shine.yahoo.com/event/backtoschool/...lleges-2293942/ This is a refreshing dose of reality compared to Princeton Review. The top 20 consisted of more than the ivies and the nerdy nine. Not to mention, being the flagship university in your state didn't automatically put you in the top 50. Right...I suppose...
  8. Bingo. I feel like making that my signature. I'm sick of saying it.
  9. Haha, I never said the bobkittens were original. And by the way, that video is proof that there is still a rivalry(no matter how many Steelers fans deny it).
  10. I'd like to see something with this sort of quality if Akron ever starts winning. I don't know who Ohio's play-by-play guy is, but Frenchie makes this guy look like a square. How cool would it be to have the HD footage of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kypnW0FaYY So is this possible at Akron? Just once or twice per season?
  11. I'm not sure if this has been posted yet. I found it buried beneath an article about Toledo's home game against the U. http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/in...ize_home-a.html
  12. Thanks, that's some awesome information. Glad to hear it. It's going to be interesting to see how this city changes over the next 10-20 years. It's pretty likely that there will be something similar to what's going on at University circle in Cleveland. As young people continue to move back to the city, University Park might become a new hotspot.
  13. Sorry I can't take this thread seriously until Zach is an option. But given those choices I'll vote for Dr. Z during football season and Quickzips for basketball. Personally, I don't contribute much to these forums, but I always appreciate their insight and opinions on each sport.
  14. http://www.ohio.com/news/100008744.html Does anyone know if some of the older residence halls(Gallucci, Grant) will be replaced or is this just purely new construction. Either way, this is a pretty substantial increase in residence space.
  15. One really has to wonder how significant this is to MAC teams. I mean, how many casual fans could even point out Ball State on a map? This might have been decided by one or two alumni from a certain school who live in a specific region. Honestly, I don't see this changing until the football team begins winning. I'm patient because I'm a younger fan than some of you. I feel sorry for those of you who have had to sit through crappy football games for decades. Let's hope Wistricill can fix this.
  16. That's a great post, Zach. I think you pretty much nailed it. And as Quickzips said, it's probably best to let this simmer a little while before any decisions are made. To the hardcore Akronites: you guys are some troopers. I'm not from Akron, but I can imagine how annoying it is playing second fiddle to Cleveland. In the end, I suppose the one thing Akron will always have over Cleveland is a powerful public university. CWRU is a very prestigious school but UA can do much more for the Akron community due in part to it's size and (of course) division 1 athletics.
  17. About 15 minutes. Z.I.P-- Don't forget the complimentary cheap beer, armchair, and "World's Greatest Dad" t-shirt wrapped tightly around their beer gut. Oh, hey, did you hear? Glenn Beck says them durn soccer-playin furriners are takin our jobs with their soccer playing! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLni3wbndls
  18. As I'm sure you all know by now(the national news media has been all over it) Can't has been raking in the trophies this summer. From the illustrious "Excellence in Management Cup" to the 2009-2010 NCAA P.A. Announcer of the Year. And who could forget the 2009-2010 Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup. Due to the surplus of trophies being shipped to Portage county, word has it that Can't's new AD has decided to simply make one trophy to represent all of the accomplishments of the athletics department. It will be dubbed the "No one gives a s***" award. The new trophy will not only symbolize the meaningless awards that Can't's been (golden)showered with, but will also give their football team a chance at contributing something. Because let's face it, when you are selling season tickets for $30 it's fairly obvious that indeed no one gives a s***. For further entertainment, feel free to visit their pathetic excuse for a fan forum. There you can find insider information posted at least once a month when a Can't fan's mother allows him to ride his bicycle to the Portage county library. Among the 10 members, there is on devout fan who claims to have sat down and had breakfast with former Can't State AD Laing Kennedy multiple times. Be sure to ask him about it. If you're lucky he might also tell you about the time he sat down and had a chat with Lebron about his free agency. Cheers,
  19. Try living in NEO right now. The Cleveland media won't shut up. With the exception of Brad Sellers these guys are driving me insane. P.S. Some guy at a bar in Lakewood was holding a sign that read "Take Akron with you".
  20. I've always wondered why there was never a Chipotle grill somewhere on exchange. That place would make a killing. And while we're on the subject, what's up with the lack of local restaurant's around campus? I don't have a problem with the chain stuff but if the U ever wants to get serious about this whole "University Park" branding campaign they need to bring in something local. You know you're in trouble when one of your neighborhood 'staples' is the Country Diner. I was thinking something like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVTcAkfuRFw
  21. Dave, you could have prefaced your entire post with that statement. Give credit where credit is due. Green is quite the cultural mecca. During my time in Akron I've found Mariachi Loco(a local chain Mexican restaurant) to quench my thirst for international flare. And if that isn't enough, there's an Applebee's AND a Friday's right down the road. Green, the cultural crossroads of Summit County.
  22. I agree, but they won't be able to match what other urban schools have become/are becoming. Akron/Toledo/Ohio State/UC have room for thousands of students to live on campus(Ohio State obviously has a lot more being the largest university in the country..). Meanwhile Cleveland State has rooms for a few hundreds of students, not thousands. Once again, I agree. CSU is on an upswing, but they won't be able to match the atmosphere that other urban Ohio schools have growing.
  23. I can't stand that stupid accent. I'd kill myself if I had to listen to 40,000 of them at once.
  24. No kidding. At least they remembered Temple...
