Honestly, I don't mind if it's only from like the 35yardline to the 35yardline... Just having one of those will make our stadium THAT much more top-notch. I also would love to see more money be donated in the coming years so they can put the ribbon board on both sides from endzone to endzone... THAT would be awesome!

ZIPS 3 Deamon Decons 0

even though it didn't count to break WF's streak, it still goes to show how talented and how well this team is coming together. This fall's season could very well be another special one -
Don't get us wrong... that is a great way. However, www.pandora.com offers high-quality streams (although it requires a good connection) and it generates the playlist/music for us. For example, I create a "station" on my pandora.com account by entering an artist, album, genre, or song and it will select music of similar styles for me. I can then "like" or "dislike" each song, and it'll dynamically regenerate the playlist based on my likes and dislikes I have input into the station. This would be especially useful for tailgating so you almost get a "set it and forget it" kind of feature. With Rhapsody, it allows Bleacher Bum to play any music he wants at any time and doesn't have to have it on his ipod to play it. This system offers him the ability to play any song he wants on-demand, whereas pandora doesn't because of licensing agreements with record labels.Something else to consider... when you're tailgating, you really don't care THAT much about sound quality. You care more about being able to hear it. Theres also a 100% chance of most people within earshot of the music being intoxicated, so they couldn't give a damn about the quality to begin with

Finally... the thread where I can let loose... [prepare yourselves]The wireless here on campus is completely hit or miss. Sometimes you get a really good connection and you're set for your wireless needs. Others you are screwed. I have a class in a room over in Polsky... I swear to god it's the only room in the entire building that doesn't get a stable connection; one minute im connected and surfing the net, the next im disconnected. I am currently in the Computer Information Systems program over at Summit College and even I believe the wireless here on campus is horriffic. Rumor has the the network administrator here at UA doesn't even have all his CISCO certifications. How someone who isn't certified to run a large-scale network such as UA's is beyond me..Back to the topic at hand: tailgating. You must have been reading my mind because I was planning on doing the same thing. I was gonna bring a laptop and load up www.pandora.com and let it play my music for me while I'm tailgating (if you don't know about pandora.com, check it out and thank me later). Based on what I recall you saying where you'll be, you should be fine. The wireless at Schrank South is very stable and you shouldn't have a problem getting a connection. In fact, I distinctly remember sitting in the McDonald's across the street and using UA's internet. However, I am going to assume that you don't have a UA login and won't be able to use the Tsunami network and will be using the guest connection "RooTown" (I could be wrong on the name here). Even so, you should be okay, but I know for a fact they have a filter on the free wireless so you may or may not be able to use it the way you want. Id definitely do some scouting/research to find out if what you want to do will work. However, with all this I should add this: Don't go without a backup plan (iPod, CDs, music on the computer itself). Like I mentioned, the wireless can be a bit sensitive here depending on where you are, but generally the wireless outside is good. I remember sitting outside by the fountain by Bierce and surfing the net and having an excellent connection there as well.Hope that was helpful!

Exactly. There are far more schools that would prove to be much more attractive fan-wise and money-wise than us.

I would just like to point out this simple fact:At least our band at UA is good enough that they don't need microphones and amplifiers/speakers to be heard across the stadium (yeah, im talking to you, Can't).Good riddance to that band. Thats yet another thing we can say we're better at than they are.Can our band be better? Of course, but it takes a firm leader and the willingness and dedication of the band members themselves to make that happen. I have faith in the band

I have been thinking about it, and I have come to the conclusion that the reason they are working long hours and weekends is to get ahead of schedule so they have a good buffer in case a part of the project takes longer to complete than expected.

that makes me miss the soccer season that much more

do you realize it wouldn't have counted as a win? the MAC pretty much saved us...i realize this, i am speaking merely from a PR standpoint. Of course I support the MAC saving us.
-
That'd be nice and all, but we'd better make some big noise fast if that was to happen. Personally, I'd be much more content with being a perennial MAC powerhouse and having a consistent winning tradition than jumping to the big stage and being a .500 team. I am not so sure that if the Big10 were to expand to 12 teams that they'd pick up a mid-major MAC team. If anything they'd probably try to convince Notre Dame to join.
-
I don't see any reason they couldnt... it'd definitely give us some more respectability if we get the goodyear blimp to come out for our home games.
-
Its nice to know, in a way, Akron didn't just pull out on SD like other big name teams might do. At least we still want to have the game, its just the MAC that's FUBARing it.

I think ND has a contract with NBC for at least a couple more years. Its kinda sad, actually. I went to the ND game vs USC back in 2007 and it was the longest football game ever. So many commercial breaks... However, if this system is implemented and ND still isn't in a conference, they wouldn't have much motivation to join a conference because the seeding in the playoffs would largely be decided the same way it is in the NCAA BBall tourney.

I recall back in 2007 an ESPN editor tried to create an eight-team tournament (maybe it was 16, I don't remember). Anyways, in that scenario he used the bowl games as all of the tournament games. For a 16 team tournament, you would have 15 bowl games. Also, johnnyzip84, I think your idea of higher-seed home field advantage would be enough concession for the BCS to consider this. They will probably still put the current "big conference" teams in the higher seeds, and therefore give them a better chance to win.its a step forward tho. At least give every conference a chance to make it. Personally, I have always been an advocate of the 16-team tournament. It works the best. As far as the locations for the games, I originally thought that the tournament could be worked into the bowl games in a way, but I don't think that'd work as well. Something else to consider... with the amount of time there is already between the end of most seasons and the beginning of bowl season, theres PLENTY of time. With a 16-team tournament, there are only 14 games to be played, meaning you would only need 3 weeks to play all the playoff games. A quick check online shows most conference tournaments of the major BCS conferences are on 12/5/09 this year, leaving a perfect 3 week deadspace between the conference championships and when most of the major bowl games would start. Something else attractive about this is that it would eliminate that awkware 4 week layoff between playing games for those teams who would be playing in the Championship game. They'd be constantly playing and not having that weird time where they arent doing anything.

Your internets be messed up. Cams working fine for me. Not a lot of activity seen in the cams anyways. Most of whats going on is happening on the other side of the tower.Brickwork is starting to go up on the tower and they are about halfway up the main entrance with the framing of the windows.
-
If I remember seeing this correctly, it will be the vault for the utility hookups. I remember walking by it at one point and saw what appeared to be electricity boxes down there.
-
I firmly believe they are behind on the stadium right now. Drove by the stadium at 8:30 tonight to see a few workers still there putting up tyvek material over the yellow insulating foam. Interesting...
-
Give me a cheap laptop, a power source, a usb webcam, and a waterproof box with a plexiglass window and I'll get you your 4th webcam
-
We need a fourth Stadium Cam, showing the front of the tower!whole-heartedly agree. A lot of the major changes being done right now are on that side and you never get to see it. I wonder who we'd have to contact to ask about this?
-
Stadium tower is being wrapped in the Tyvek material... probably going to be starting lots of brickwork soon. Also saw they have a lifting scaffold on the main entrance area putting in the framing for all the windows above it.

HEY EVERYONE!I have an idea.... how about we all stop b!tching about how behind they are or not behind, who can count and who can't, etc....AND JUST LET THEM DO THEIR JOBS.The stadium WILL be ready for the game on Sept 12th. Let's enjoy the hard work they have put forth so far and that they WILL have that stadium looking good.kthxbai!

So you are saying we should neglect our University's best intercollegiate athletic program because they don't bring in money? What are you smoking?!I know basketball and football are the money cows, but when you have a perennial top-10 program playing in one of the worst facilities among commonly-ranked schools, something isnt right.I am not against a new arena at all. In fact, I fully endorse it and hope something becomes of it soon, but you need to consider that a top-10 team in the nation needs facilities that reflect the program's success. Build a better atmostphere for soccer and... wouldnt you know it, more people might come out and watch our team?!The JAR is doing its job fine right now. We don't NEED to replace it because of structural integrity, constant sell outs, etc... but replacing it with something a bit more reflective of the program's rise and "getting with the times" is definitely something we should do.

I think it has been WELL established they are NOT behind 45 days to get the stadium ready for the first home game. Where the 45 days behind might come in to play is actually completing levels 2-4 of the press tower where the classrooms are. Those are CLEARLY not going to be done by the fall semester. They will have the outer shell of the lower 3 levels done so that the stadium is entirely presentable come home opener. Classroom work will go on probably throughout the fall semester and will probably be ready for the Spring '10 semester.

Last I had heard, that building will be torn down within the next year or two and then a new academic building for the College of Education would be built in its place. I don't know this for sure as I don't know what the academic space at the Info will be used for, but thats what I heard last.
