Sources ( Dave Carducci) have confirmed that former d-coordinator Jim Fleming has been hired by Doug Martin to coach linebackers at Can't. Good for him- he was a good hardworking guy who Im glad is getting a fresh start. I just hope Will stays!!!

Basically our game against BG on saturday is meaningless in terms of seeding in MAC. if Can't State enters Rhodes Arena with a one-game lead over Akron, ( should we lose to BG),a Zips win still would clinch the MAC regular season championship for Akron. Why? If Akron wins that game, both teams will finish at 12-4. The first tiebreaker (head-to-head) will be a wash. Then you go down the seeds to find a team that Akron fared better against, or vice versa. The teams both beat Ball State and both split versus Buffalo. So it will come to Miami, a team that Akron swept and Can't State split. So the Zips would win the tiebreaker. It is almost certain that March 5 will determine which team is guaranteed a postseason appearance in the NIT (which goes to a regular season conference champion that doesn't go to the NCAA Tournament). That being said- hell yes the game saturday matters to us. we better not lay an "Indianapolis colts" on zip fans saturday in our last game ever at Anderson arena.

I must say Im impressed that the UB student fans have their own website. AK Rowdies as we know dont. I agree that we dont want the band on north side playing into our bench. I like the idea of taking out that track/walkway and running seats all the way up like they did when they renovated Beeghly center at YSU. Im not a Can't lover but lets admit their students arent so bad- they fill two whole endzones of 18 rows of bleachers while we cant fill 8 rows. Im not criticizing the Rowdies, but Id like to honestly know why they turn out in great numbers for soccer outdoors in freezing rain but wont come to any basketball games!! Those of you who do I love it but lets face it- thjats about 50 people! Where are the rest?? 3 games left- time to put up or shut up.

Did anyone else hear this???????????????????????In listening to game yesterday Steve french said the rematch will NOT be next year but in nov or december of 2011. Apparently their schedule is filled. By bracketbuster rules they have 1 1/2 years to ply the return game.

Because our Zips ladies are on radio from 2- 4/430 battling BGSU for 1st I just realized that the mens game will not have a pregame show and will be joined in progress. Or has anyone else heard otherwise?? Either that the mens game will start on 640 or gozips .com or that the ladies game will switch at 330?

And why does this thing ALWAYS say can't and not Can't?
infofan replied to akronzips71's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
tomato-tomotto, potato- pototto, no matter how you pronounce it or spell it its still Can't normal school for teachers, (protesters, thugs, felons, etc). But you know what, we the best rivalry n the MAC so they must not be al bad! -

How to Predict MAC Tournament Seeding by Rasor
infofan replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Note that Mike Rasor predicts BG to beat Can't at BG but Akron to lose to Can't at Akron. I wont disagree that Can't will finish as 1st seed or that we might not lose in Can't game but hes suggesting BG is better than Akron and I disagree with that. Look at the records, and BG is averaging about 1100 per home game so its no big home advantage!! -
To put in my 2cents worth....... I observed the night of the EMU game in which Hitchens and Sullivan were suspended that both Alex and Humpty were on the bench during the game AND were on the team lineup for the national anthem. In the NIU game 2 nights later Humpty was in the starting lineup. What that tells me is it was a minor transgression ( otherwise why would he start and not just be reactivated) with KD trying to make a point. I was not at the CMU game but I did hear B McKnight was at the game in street clothes. I would assume again it was a minor issue (missing practice or study table?)and Brett will be back on sunday highly motivated ! While they can be inconsistant the McKnights seem to be good responsible kids (kids? theyre bigger than me!)with great parents. We have had a number of player suspensions in the past ( hipscher and Crawford eras) and I recall the suspended players not being at the games.

Hes still eligible so it must be 2.25 or better. But not much!!Now how long is his police record? Thats the better question.

I hate to acknowledge or compliment Can't for anything but IMHO the MACC is better than the JAR. The lobby is bright open, 1000more seats and they are raised up in 2nd level so walkers arent in your way, blue/gold loge is nice vantage - and sells beer, statistic scoreboard always on and works realtime, and 20 rows of student bleachers right behind basket is how it should be- (not 4 rows half empty). Im just saying that I know we have limited funds and the soccer facility is at top of list. But Id love to hear some official word on a new or renovated facility 3 or 4 years down the road, like BG andCMU has. Stroh center hasnt even broken ground yet but it is a done deal, as is the CMU even center.

Did anyone notice the link and story on the CM message board that they are totally redoing and expanding CMU's arena? That was arguably the one single gym(arena) that was worse than ours facility wise. Now well be at bottom. I know we should be happy that we got Infocision Stadium but its hard to see all these new or renovated arenas everywhere (Buffalo, Toledo, BG, CMU, etc) except here. It has to hurt our recruiting.

Agreed, the womens team is doing outstanding, but tho its a minor sport dont forget the womens tennis team!! They are 3-0 having defeated Michigan St, Penn St, and Xavier and have been picked to win the MAC. Props to those ladies too!! Lets hope it rubs off on our men!!!

Can we cut Coach Dambrot a little slack. Heres an Akron guy thats led us to post season 3 of the last 4 years and hopefully again this year. Yet hes criticized constantly for playing a weak schedule, pulling players too quick, not playing some guys, suspending players, and making a sarcastic comment about fairweather fans ( because att. was down 1200 on monday night). We all have a right to say these things but in the heat of the moment KD also says some things he might regret later. Hes committed to this school, as have most fans so IMHO he has a right to voice his frustration once in a while. You probably noticed he didnt do his post game interview till almost 20 minutes after the game. Rest assured he had some things to say to those boys. Fans take a loss hard but the coaches probably take it harder.

wheres the unicycle plate lady or the frisbee catching dog or the bud light daredevils or duo designs or rubber boy or bucket boyz or wing/burrito eating contests or the flying blimp we used to have or the t-shirt gun or the pregame fireworks? I just mean why did we go so cheap this year?? Can't has tickets for 5bucks, hot dogs for a buck, AND halftime entertainment as does ball state, buffalo, miami, western mich, etc.............

EMU game is televised so look for small crowd. However, I sent a suggestion to TW that they carry the FSN Ohio video feed on scoreboard so maybe we can actually have replays like most everywhere else. Does anyone know when bracketbusters are announced??

Why doesn't Akron have a TV channel?
infofan replied to Spin's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Hi def is Not required by FCC. Digital broadcast is but only at 480i, not the 1080 used by most network affiliates. The only opportunity for a local channel lies in the fact that most broadcasters use 4 or 5 sub-channels. Even 17,23, 47, and 49locally. You dont get them over cable or satellite but over the air. Soon channel 24- a local repeater channel for ch 19 out of Shaker Hts(CLEVELAND) will start broadcasting from channel 23's tower in west Akron (to reach areas where ch 19s digital is Not reaching in southern summit/stark). Someday maybe they will program one of these subchannels with local content. -

My understanding is we have about 12 commitments so far. 13 spots to go. With only 5 days to go! Erich Howard may be a gamble but hes local and we can use local kids/local support. (By the way- can Bobby Hendry help us with this one??) He verbally committed to UA. He went on to visit Toledo and maybe Can't. So what. Hes a 17/18 yr old wide eyed kid thats getting the red carpet treatment, you cant blame him for that. If as pointed out he is a non qualifier it would be far easier for him to live at home and pay his own first year at UA than at Toledo. Still CK's review of our Mr football/Mr basketball athletes is undeniable. Ill add Antoine Lavendar( Mr Basketball) from Sandusky to that list.
-
huge win on the road. good job- put Can't game behind them quickly and refocused. French just said Mcneese has 20 turnovers in 20 games- not too bad!! these guys almost beat Temple? wow
-
It appears you are correct CK. Yet i remember we did play Cal when Ben Braun was coach(KDs mentor) 6/8 years ago . I dont understand why fellow coaches/friends wouldnt want to play each other when they all share the same problem- scheduling.
