dreal1scout replied to AKSportsFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
I'M back and as D'Real as Ever. The ZIPS will always have a special place in my heart. Out here in Cali, I always wear my Zips Cap and sweatshirt (weather permitting!). My source tells me today that we should expect a winning season with a predicted win total of no less than 7 wins. I say 8 wins!! Special shout out to my good friends Keener 92 and Johnny Zip. Finally we get something to cheer about. GO ZIPS -
Help! Give me some reasons why the Zips will beat Can't
dreal1scout replied to Lee Adams's topic in Akron Zips Football
I predict a Win over Cant for many reasons, but not to bore anyone, I will keep the list short. (all this on this on good authority)a. Our D will register 2 sacks minimum. b. Our O will score 2 touchdowns in 1st half.c. PN7 will be starting QB.d. and most importantly... a little bird told me so.GO ZIPS - GET READY TO BEATDOWN THE FLUSHES -
I predict a Zips WIN. I've lost any/all respect I ever had for Rasor. I expect a ZIPS BlowOut!! GO ZIPS!!!

The problem that a lot of these underdogs have when going against the larger programs is they think they can try to keep the score low and stay into it. That rarely works. Akron should come out firing on all cylinders and try to take OSU off guard. None of this run. run, sack, punt BS. OSU is bigger and faster by a lot. The only way to counter that is to do what they aren't expecting. Use the OSU speed to Akrons advantage. Counters, traps qb draws, swings, screens. Dont' play the typical let's see if we can keep it close and then get lucky at the end crap. Make the team know you are trying to win Coach. Make them know you beleive in them. Sage advice. GO ZIPS!!

The 10 Ten Reasons Why UA Might Give OSU a Game

Buffalo. That's Easy - OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY

You are talking about Aaron Goldhammer. The guy is also a HUGE OSU basher. He is a puke and I would love to punch him in the face almost every time he opens his mouth. He isnt from Ohio and all he does is bash on every Ohio team regardless of sport. Aaron Goldhammer is a ............. fill-in the blank.

The only excuse they will be able to muster up is that we ZIPS as super-underdogs, just beat them fair and square. I have ALWAYS preferred being the underdog in any competition. And I heard that that is the sentiment that CoachI and the team embrace. It fires the very souls of The Zips. The Suckeyes are going down. Mark my words. We're not in it to "cover". Suckeyes are gonna get a beatdown. OSU - 21 ZIPS - 26 GO ZIPS

I most certainly want the Zip to always succeed, but even more so with people like Zach that just talk out of their ass. This guy didn't stand a chance with half the fan base because he was from Notre Dame and/or the new AD hired him. It's disgusting....no matter what Rob does, people like Zach will try to tear it apart. I hope, just as a Zips fan, that Rob can get it done. But even more I want him to do well just so people like Zach can shut the hell up. I love how the guy is the worst coach ever when he hasn't even been given a shot to be a coach with some of these people. Well said. GO ZIPS

Kind of like if your company is an electrical company you would want electricians more so than masonry workers. beautiful analogy

That "contributor" Blade Choppin is one dumbass. Although he is a dumbass, he's a Smart Dumbass in so far as he is a believer that The ZIPS CAN BEAT THE SUCKEYES. Mr. Choppin's quote: Also, the Akron program is improving rapidly as they have a very talented quarterback in Clayton Moore and lots of other talented skill players. Even though the ZIPS are projected to finish fifth in the MAC East, they might be able to torture Buckeye fans for one afternoon. God bless those ZIPS. Believe it, the ZIPS are for real (DReal!) and we're coming to WIN!!!

Depends on the primary motivator. Our basketball facilities are average at best yet we have the best team in the league. Our soccer facilities are probably worse than our basketball facilities yet we win national championships. I have yet to see a building make a tackle, complete a pass or go for a long run. I beg to differ, GP1. Aside from the JAR, the other facilities available to the basketball players (and that are shared among all sports) are tops in the league. Granted, the lack of a sparkling new or even standard bowl arena is a big limiting factor. However, the recruits come because of KD as a coach and person and that the program wins. Nothing recruits better than a winning program with a solid coach. I will never disagree with that. Our soccer facilities are among the best in the country, not just the league. I will give you the benefit of the doubt, GP1, because you are a football guy (and likely not that interested in soccer), and I assume you have not seen the new stadium yet. Creighton might be the only program with a better overall stadium. (Google it.) I was at UNC last year when we demolished the Tar Heals, and even with their tradition-laden woman's program that has won 10+ national championships and perennial top-5 men's program, our new stadium is nicer. There are many factors, but the facilities can contribute positively (or negatively) to the fan experience. The soccer recruits LOVE that the game atmosphere is like a European game and is unique in college soccer. That dynamic is a unique interplay between the fans and the facilities. Hence, the facilities are a large basis for the culture of a program and its success. Along with what I judge to be a great leader in Coach Pfau, our woman's program continues to improve (we just beat Michigan). I believe a lot of that is due to the gorgeous facility, and the elite players it allows us to attract. How many programs exist that are annually competitive for national championships yet have sub-par facilities? If you can name a small handful, I'd be amazed. In converse, consider: GaTech in baseball, Georgia in tennis, Kentucky, Duke, UNC in basketball, Akron, Creighton, and SMU in soccer, Arkansas in track...etc. I could go on. Bottom line, though not the only or most important factor, facilities are a very important component of establishing and maintaining a winning program. Have you been to the other MAC schools to see their basketball facilities, indoor practice fields, training equipment, basketball suites, etc.? You act as though other MAC schools don't invest in facilities. Toledo just spent millions on a Savage Hall enhancement, including training facilities. Most schools have IPFs these days that are just as good as Akron's. Can't has had one for 20 years. OU's b-ball arena, already one of the best, is getting several million in updates. Their weight training facility is much larger than Akron's. I would say Akron's facilities, now with InfoCision Stadium, are on par with many other MAC schools. Exactly. It's a nuclear arms race. Facilities are important. And GP1, why do you think we have players who don't want to win? I think the only program you could even begin to question this for is the football team (yes, I know this is a football forum). With a coaching change followed by a 1-11 season, losing to a D-IAA program, and the number of formerly rostered players leaving, did you expect morale to be high? I wouldn't be so quick to call our kids losers...the circumstances they have played through have been terrible. well said

As some of you might already know, I live in Southern California. Just want to share this story. A couple days ago iwas driving my car and noticed that the gentleman driving the SUV next to/ahead of me was sporting a bumber sticker that read "Buckeyes". Wow, I was hot (and not from the Cali sun). I pulled up next to him at the stoplight and asked him if that meant Ohio State. He said yes. Then I told him that I am BIG Fan of The Zips. We chatted briefly about the upcoming game. Told him my nephew played for the Zips. The strange thing is that he was remarkably rather polite. Didn't dismiss the Zips as an unimportant opponent or a pushover. I told him that I felt that anything's possible, and that I felt that the Zips are going to make a name for themselves with this game. He made some more pleasant small talk about th game, and then we drove on. But not before I yelled at the top of my lungs, YOU SUCKEYES ARE IN FOR A BEATDOWN!! hahaha GO ZIPS

Quarterback – It will be interesting to see if "Paul Nicely" can hold onto the job after a mediocre season full-time in 2011 What happened to Patrick

I'm not sure what to make of it either. I know this. We may not win the mac, but the schedule is set up for us to do well if we take advantage of the opportunities presented to us early in the season. If we can just beat Temple the second game, we could set ourselves up for a good start to the season the first five games, carry that momentum into a favorable home stretch and then who knows what could happen. Can anyone remember a more favorable schedule the first half of the season? I hate to use the cliche the season is riding on one game because it isn't that simple, but I really think the Temple game will set the tone for the remainder of the season. It's all right in front of us if we can just take advantage of it. There are a lot of good reasons to pick against the Zips, but it is still the MAC and stranger things have happened. Why not us? This is the smartest thing GP-1 has said today. Well, I haven't been listening to everything, but my opinion is...beat Temple -- a team with I think fewer returning starters than any team in the league -- and Akron has a chance of being .500 or better in the MAC. Lose that one, and the odds increase hugantically. Or gimungously, WEYP. Agreed. and I'll go you one better. BEAT DOWN THE SUCKEYES!

Good. That tunnel of pride ain't nothing compared to what the suckeyes are gonna confront went then take the field. We got our own Zips "Wall of Pride" i.e, our Granite Wall of Woopass, bka our Defense, that we are gonna showcase to the world in an away game, in a hostile stadium, as heavy underdogs, and shove the stunned suckeyes right BACK into their Hole of Pride, and then our Offense is gonna wreck havoc on the suckeye D, as a horrified Suckeye crowd moans a shower of tears. Zips 28 Suckeyes 18 GO ZIPS JT The Brick would hate this. All cheerleading and no substance. O Yee Of Little Faith

I've heard/read a lot of Zip fans say/write this, and I have even thought it myself. BUT a quick turnover, 3 and out, some kind of score on them should take all that "pent up energy" away from them. Momentum is crazy in football. He!!, it might even work in our favor if something positive happens for us early, they might start questioning themselves if they can win without the vest and the suspended kids. Granted, there is probably about a single digit percentage of this happening, but it could. It WILL
