Akron September opponent's coach in hot water?
dreal1scout replied to Dr Z's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
sorry Johnny but I can't side with you on this one. he did request to have his suspensions extended to match the players. Maybe he was hoping the extended suspension would cover up his lies. 20 year old kids have some level of excuse...they're poor, young and capable of stupid stuff. Tressel was a grown man. He knew better. And, only under pressure, did he have his suspension increased to match (not exceed) the kid's suspension. Too little too late. All he needed to do was forward the emails to his compliance officer and he'd have be fine. He didn't, and his motives were pretty transparent to all. Looking forward to seeing Coach Fickell this upcoming Labor Day weekend! And I'm looking forward to our ZIPS giving tOSU a Beat Down. As a good friend of mine once said when we (and several other friends) were confronted by an angry/hostile rival group of friends on a basketball court, and a fight seemed imminent, "They Ain't So Tough". And as for the tOSU Suckeyes, " They Ain't So Tough as The Zips". -
Wont know until they play the games, but I would hope to see the Zips competitive against Can't, Temple, EMU, FIU, VMI, CMU and Buffalo. Just to name 7. How many WILL they win? Maybe none. Maybe 7. Who knows. Give 'em a chance. There are a lot of newcomers that might just prove they can play. Maybe not. But as for me and my house, we are supporting the Zips. Me Too. And I'm not ruling out an upset over the Suckeyes. Gotta keep my hopes high and support the team no matter what. I believe holding the team to high expectations equals better team effort, hence more Wins. My experience leads me to beliveve this to be true. The effort players make is correlated to the expectations of their fans. We got good damn good players too! And we can beat the Suckeyes if the ZIPS give 100% best effort. GO ZIPS!! The Suckeyes Suck.

I agree with your pick for Hasan. Hopefully, we have a few more players make ALL-MAC. And Phil Steele is a no-nothing jackass!

That's what I was thinking. If we can't contain our own offense, those guys in Cowlumbus will just run right over us. I respectfully disagree. For many reasons. #1, Icoach reined in the D. The game was to primarily showcase what the Offense had/had not learned in camp. Obviously, Icoach didn't want to come away with any injuries on either side of the ball. Icoach knows what he's doing. I believe as does Icoach, that this years team is vastly improved over last season's. I for one, Kant wait for the Columbus State Suckeyes. I think we will be competitive (and maybe more). And another thing: I thought this forum was for ZIPS Fans. I'm pretty sure that our Zips read these comments. Posting negative comments does Nothing to help, and it does hurt. If you want wins, you gotta support the team (good times & bad), especially bad times. I believe we got a gem in the making. I've heard good things about this team and I've no reason to doubt it. We all need to get on board early to help make this team what Icoach and the players already believe, i.e., We've got a good chance at getting some big-time recognition this season. We want it and are ready for it. Bring them Suckeye Punk Asses on!!!

What are the chances that an incoming QB would be promised the starting position over a veteran without having seen the incoming QB take a snap at the DI level or how much the veteran may have improved over the off-season? I'm not picking on you, but how familiar are you with the recruiting process? I never said "PROMISED". Let me put it another way.... You're a big time high school QB with state titles under your belt, were recruited by a number of big programs, and you just tore up JC for a year. Then, one of the worst D-1A schools in the country comes calling, and tells you that if you come to this horrible program, you might also have the additional priviledge of sitting on the bench behind one of the worst QBs in D-1A. Would you go there? Think about it. Ha, ha. I'm not concerned about being picked on by anyone on ZN.O. I already have an all-star squad of pickers in my wife and her six sisters. Anyone here who wants to join that team will definitely not be promised a starting position, but will have to earn it. But seriously, there are only three basic options on what to tell an incoming recruit about his chances of becoming the starter at his position ahead of a returning veteran: 1. Promise him he's going to play ahead of the incumbent. 2. Tell him he's definitely going to sit on the bench behind the incumbent. 3. Tell him if he wants the starting position, he is going to have to earn it by outperforming the incumbent. Now there are many ways to go about stating option #3. I'm assuming the Zips coaching staff did it the smart and classy way -- something like this: As you can see from our recent record, Mr. Recruit, the UA football team has not been performing at a high level. UA has made a strong commitment to reverse that by investing in the best football facilities in the MAC and bringing in a new coaching staff to turn things around. When you go 1-11, you have to look at all options to improve the team. No returning player is guaranteed a starting spot. Every new player joining the Zips will have a fair chance to prove they should be a starter at their position. As a QB with aspirations to someday play in the NFL, you'll be pleased to note that we've now gone to the pro set. This will give our QBs an opportunity to showcase their abilities in an NFL-style offense. The NFL is well aware that the MAC is a good conference for future pro QBs, thanks to former MAC QBs like Ben Roethlisberger, Byron Leftwich, Chad Pennington, Bruce Gradkowski, Charlie Batch, Omar Jacobs, and the Zips own Charlie Frye. We're impressed with the abilities you've shown in HS and JC. We think you have the potential to become a great MAC QB and future NFL player. We'll give you every opportunity to prove yourself. You can look at the stats from last season and see that the Zips need improved performance in every area, including QB. There's a great opportunity for whichever QB steps up and earns the Zips starting job next season, and we think you have the ability to do that. Are we close to being on the same frequency here, Skip, or do you see it differently? I think you got it right. May the best man Win.

i just want to see some kind of measurable improvement that we can be proud of. I would hope to see a team attitude that has not given up. GO ZIPS!!

You think we would be a better team with a different system under the current staff that was hired to run the system the coach knows? You think Rob would be a better coach in a different system? Do you think the systems were mentioned in the interview with the AD? You don't get more basic than the pro offense and the 4-3 defense. You are looking for one simple answer to a bad football team. Just think for a second of running the spread with this team. Who would catch the ball? Who would block? Same guys or will we magically get a bunch of talent at those positions because we have a different scheme? What defense will we run that we don't have to cover receivers and we don't have to put pressure on the QB, because THAT is what we should run. There are many more problems than just one. EXACTLY

sorry, couldn't pass this one up! With all your tongue-in-cheek military personnel knowledge, one must wonder what military credentials you hold. Perhaps (and you set yourself up for this), maybe a stint with the US Navy as a "Rear Admiral". That's rank. that's Rank - u got me this time!

Was a Zips Blogger Drunk When He Wrote This?

Way off the mark. I have been buying season tickets for years. I mean years. I did not have to. I could have paid general admission price for every game and gotten a good seat. And I would not have had to pay for all the games. I bought season tickets to support the program not just have tickets. The program has over the long haul been a loser but I still bought season tickets. When I see cheap tickets flying around because the athletic department badly miscalculated support for the team, I feel almost like I am being punished for continually supporting a bad program. They got my money, too bad for me. I want to see what the cost of season tickets will be next year. Lets at least throw a bone to the real 'true fans' who spend the money and go to all the games, I still love the ZIPS and will continue to support them in good times and bad. I still believe that Icoach will turn this team in the right direction. Believe me, I want to see wins as much as anyone. We can't get any worse. I hope we are on our way up. GO ZIPS! -
Finally, a voice of reason. You ZipMesiter are a genius. And on this one I agree with you, "The Zips will win by no more than 14". GO ZIPS!!!

What's the worst that can happen?
dreal1scout replied to ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net's topic in Akron Zips Football
What an inspirational song. I agree. Our day will come and all this disaster will give way to a re-birth to ZIPS excellence. I know many will think this a joke, or at best wishful thinking, but believe me, I Do believe it will come, and sooner than later. I sure hope no FB players read this forum (i hope they don't have time to) as i think it would only add to the shitty way they must already feel. Becasue of this I don't like to post negative comments, plus I'm just waiting to have the opportunity to post mega-positve comments about the Zips soon (and very soon). I'm telling everyone right now. My next post topic will be titled: "I TOLD U SO" -
finally, a voice of reason. F cant and the boat they rode in on. GO ZIPS!!!

I've always been envious of people with the special power of being able to read other people's minds. I've watched hundreds of coaches being interviewed over the last half century, and I haven't been able to read the mind of a single one to the point of being confident that they are "comfortable" with losing. Extraordinary! Two mind readers in a single thread! Over the last half century I've seen many players transfer out of winning programs, so I'd have never guessed that one transferring out of a losing program "obviously" did it because he felt the program is a mess. Now that I know that there are so many forum members on ZN.O with the ability to read other people's minds, I'm going to be extra careful about what I'm thinking. Well said.

Who Sucks MORE? A. The NIU Huskie 2010 football team B. The new Super Sooper Deluxe Hoover Vacuum with Magnum Nano Suction Technology C. The drunken NIU Alpha Delta sorority princess/Huskie Cheerleader at this Saturday afternoon's Pre-Game Victory Celebration at the Zips football team clubhouse on Crouse Street. D. They all SUCK about the same.
