Breaking news! I just viewed some of the comments on the NIU message board about us. Well I don’t have the time to register/comment on their site so I hope their spy dog (doggone) reads this post. First of all, I honestly never heard of NIU (I thought it stood for Northern Indiana University), nor could I even today find it on a US map (but that’s probably due to my unferieer undergrad educashun at Cant’ State). I have it on pretty secret Insider Info that our Zips are more than ready to bust out the MAC starting with NIU. I’ve spoken with quite a few of the guys and all of them assured me that the MAC Championship is ours. They admitted their collective bone-headed play of the earlier games, and assured me that the NIU Dogs are truly Our Bitch (just like PSUcks was a year ago). Yes I know we lost to PSU, but we at least kept it close/interesting. And NIU isn’t pSU. Anyways, I digress. My cousin from Buffalo (a long-time friend of ICoach) phoned me today and told me that ICoach guaranties a win this Saturday and predicts the Zips 2010 Mac Champs. He told me to expect the unexpected. Expect our run game to rack up big yards against the Dogs. In practice yesterday, #82 has apparently returned to his stellar playmaking ability both at WR and kick-returner. Our D-line has become more beastly overnight, and are ready and anxious to prove it (take it out on) the poor NIU Puppies! PN7 looks to have finally worked out the kinks and is expected by ICoach to put up some big numbers against NIU (which isn’t really saying much considering it’s NIU), but nevertheless, has showed a boatload of improved playmaking. Expect some surprises out of PN7 this weekend. There has been a ton of improvements over the past couple days at practice. New faces have stepped-up. All have been held accountable, and the starters will be those that have won the challenges. If I were a betting man, this game with NIU is a No-Brainer, Gimme, Take-It-To-The-Bank, Dead Lock, at EVEN money. I’m skipping my mortgage payment, and booking a 2-week vacation to Hawaii. Go ZIPS!! 2010

I hope you're not representative of Akron fans. No class at all. Allow me to introduce myself. GO ZIPS!

Seeing #43 Adam Steiner put that Monstous Bull-Dozing hit on Kentucky’s punt returner was a thing of beauty, and more than well-worth the price of admission alone. My hat’s off to Mr. Steiner. Even though we were getting our ass pounded, he never gave up, didn’t throw in the towel, attempt to throw blame around, or just plain quit. NO – what #43 Adam Steiner did was Put On His Big Girl Panties and Dealt with it. I just hope that Adam’s display of courage, fearlessness, and guts be used as a model of the Zips Coaching staff to instill that type of playmaking in ALL Zips. Adam Steiner #43 gets my “Fear The Roo” award for Kentucky game. Go ZIPS

Looks like Ryan Bain in a #82 jersey. Did anybody notice that Bain is not on the roster?

I attended both the Syracuse & GW games. I lost my voice for several days after the Cuse game cause I was yelling so much through my mini Zips mega-fone. After the GW loss I temporarily lost my voice because of yelling during the game and becasue I was completely dumbfounded when GW kicked the winning goal. I just don't understand "fans" that don't rally round the team in both Good times and Bad, especially the Bad Times. Anybody can get behind a winner. It takes pride and guts to support a struggling team. I look forward to soon becoming one of those "Anybody's". Go ZIPS -

Career Numbers: XPA: 77 XPM: 73 FGA: 50 FGM: 34 Ouch. that's not too bad actually. Only when it's THE winning point MISSED, it is That Bad! Actually!

Agreed. Go Zips!

What happens if soccer loses a couple of games?? The old saying "Build It and They Will Come" is so apropos to UA's current situation as it relates to football fan enthusiasm, and student attendance at games. We now have a beautiful venue (the 1st part of the "build it" equation). With any luck this year, we will have "built" the most important part, i.e., "The Start of a A Winning Football Tradition". As I'm sure most will agree, it is that 2nd part that will truly elevate this program to where we all want it to be. Win and They Will Come. It's time to get this started! It starts this Saturday evening, 9/4/2010. The start of Something Big. GO ZIPS!!!! 2010

What if this match were being played across the street? Damn - for that I'll get on a plane.

I think most of you are missing GP-1's point. Which, as I understand, is: Akron's existence as some kind of "major college" football program is nothing but a pretense. They are not now, and have virtually no chance in the future of becoming a major player in college football. Unfortunately, at this point in time, I am afraid the weight of the evidence is in GP-1's corner. But the part I don't understand personally, is all the emotion being blown off at how the University of Akron's status in college football reflects the status of the city of Akron vis-a-vis similar and familiar cities. Is Akron a better place to live than Youngstown based on its college football experience? Does it mean that Akron is a better city than Cleveland, because the Forest City/Mistake on the Lake (choose your favorite) lacks a FBS football program? There are many excellent locales -- and many great universities which provide development and pride to their areas, which have no college football at all. I think I get ya Z.I.P. You mean like St. Bonaventure University in Salamanca, NY. ?

Personally, I wouldn't watch the World Cup if it was being played across the street from me.

My prediction of a 14 point Akron win was based on the assumption that we would be playing a 4-3. If we are really going to play a 3-4 I am changing my prediction to a two touchdown - two extra point win. Surely I agree that the new 3-4 scheme will make for some exciting football. And that new 3-4 was probably stolen right from the playbook of the offensive coordinator guru over at Cant. And surely Cant Still Sucks. But a PAT is only 1 point. So logically , what is your point? Surely you must have been joking. I'll stick with my earlier prediction only if we revert back to Coach I's original new 4-3 scheme. Now I'll stop calling you all Shirley.

Syracuse isn't the New York flagship university, Buffalo is. I thought it was Army. You would think Navy would be the only flagship university. You would think that.
-
Hey, Hilary Clinton isn't from New york, but she's one of their Senators. Therefore, Syracuse can be the state's flagship university. I Never Had Sex With That Woman.

I'm with you 100%. Aaron. Seeing this gets me totally fired up. We are very fortunate to have a marching band of this caliber. Not every school has a band that totally kicks ass like Ohio's Pride. Cough, Cough, Can't State. I like the new pregame show. I especially liked dotting the I in Zips. Was this performance before the final scrimmage? Wish I could have seen it for the first time in person. Perhaps someone from the band can let us know if they will be performing in front of the Polymer Science building before games like last year. LUV the band. A great band surely goes a long ways in Inspiring our Team/Fans. Surely Everyone knows that when Fans get Fired-Up, it translates into Players getting Fired-Up. I'm already FIRED-UP. Now I'l stop calling you all Shirley.

Although I have no real proof, I strongly suspect that Mr. Feiner, the SI.com writer of the MAC Breakdown report is of the Merry & Happy persuasion (not that there’s anything wrong with that), and as such, has absolutely no knowledge of college football (Especially The MAC conference teams), and any “How They’ll Finish” prediction of his is pure, untainted, stinky, smelly BS. He is full of IT!! (misspelling IT on purpose). I sure hope that Mr. Feiner’s stupidity helps ignite that fire/desire of every 2010 Zip player to go out and give their 100% effort of every game. I hope that Coach I inspires this team to give their best. That is all we can hope for, and that in my opinion, will ensure that the 2010 Zips are The . GO ZIPS!!!

Well said.

I guess I know more about the ZIPS than Tom Gaffney. It aint' gonna be 6 & 6. I expect a more reasonable prediction would be 8 & 4. OK Meister? hehe! GO ZIPS 2010 Dearest dreal, One month after you posted your appallingly pessimistic prediction, I thought I would send you a note with my sincere hope that you have overcome your bout with depression. We are only days away from Monster hands and the start of 12-0. Dreal here. Showin' suv luv for The Meister. I'm ready for some ZIPS Football! Cant wait. I'l be there. Lookin forward to meeting you. As for MH, I'm obviously excited to see him play. Can he live up to all the hype? I sure AFHS! I'll be wearin a Zippy Costume that my wife made for me and wants me to wear. I know it sounds stupid and I don't want to take anything away from The Real Zippy, but she thinks it's cute and I don't want to dissapoint the Ms.'s. I plan on being a lot 9. I'll be easy to spot. DReally looking forward to watching our Zips come away with a Big Win over the ExCuse and on our way to that possible 12-0 season. I'll keep one on ice for ya!

Wasn't he one of the nation's most prolific rushers?

Brown Street is where we all used to live. At one time, it was considered modern living on campus. Christ do I feel old. I wonder what landfill they put Brown Street in? Did you play in the era when jock dorms were still legal? Yes. Some of you might be shocked to know what went on in that place. Please share..... I'm in Myrtle Beach and going to dinner. Not much time. I'll just say this. A lot of college is/was about sex, drugs and rock & roll. Take all of that in extreme forms and you will understand. Wow - sounds like hella good times!! But something certainly lacking in my college days. Not sure what decade you speak of. I did not get to partake of those type of festive distractions. As a doctorate candidate at USC (Trojans, - but my heart is all/pure ZIPS), much of my time was spent earning my PHd in "The College Football Athlete". My thesis (which i still have a copy of) was entitled "Courting Skilled Tackling Techniques (bka "The Killer Instinct") in Defensive Linemen". No bullsh.., USC really offered that degree. GO ZIPS!!! CRUSH the Orange.
