I totally agree with the whole Cleveland/ Akron deal. However reading part of the G.Q. article, he talks about character and Dan Gilbert: • James on Cavs owner Dan Gilbert: "I don't think he ever cared about LeBron. My mother always told me: 'You will see the light of people when they hit adversity. You'll get a good sense of their character.' Me and my family have seen the character of that man." He went on to say that Gilbert's post-Decision screed "made me feel more comfortable that I made the right decision." Mr, James, after the way this went down(from you quitting durning the Boston series to now), you showed how much character you have: and that is ZERO.

Are you sure? Is there a quality source yet?

Why would you want someone like that? If the reasoning is true why the kicked off the team "dismissed for multiple failed drug tests." The last thing you need on a team is someone like that

I would take Akron also. The Orangemen will be one of the worse teams in the country this year!

How does this Examiner blog work anyway, with regard to the city cited? Every time I've ever seen it, it has "Examiner Birmingham" displayed to me -- whether I'm at work or at home (I did just open the Examiner Akron, and that's what it read). I usually use it to find info on the Seattle Sounders, in fact the best Sounders blog -- put together by their PR Dept Director is on Examiner (Birmingham, that is). Welcome to Bama? I think that it has to do someting with the cookies stored on your cpu. I just pulled up the article and it said Examiner Phoenix.

We've never had a 1-for-1 with a BCS team. I don't know what the new policy is with a new AD and coach in place. 1 and 1's would be good. Just do fall into the garbage that VT used to do with an "out cluase" after the first game

Who inherited a more talented team, JD or RI?
lance99 replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
It is not about "Who inherited a more talented team," more of what is done with the talent. Sometimes, it is just a chance of face that makes the difference. I am not questioning the talent that JD had at the start. Coach I has talent to complete at least in the MAC East this year. -

I have notice that Akron wants nothing to do with Cleveland for any reason. Growing up in Akron, we considered Clevland a whole different universe than Akron. The flip side of this that Cleveland wants nothing to with Akron unless it conviences them for something(i.e. Le Bron). Is there a possible way to split the two cities idenity. I ask this question because the two cities in question are two very different worlds. I was talking with a friend of mine who moved to Cleveland and he said reffering to Akron "Why would I go there? It's is not a real city anyway." Nothing against Cleveland, they have used Akron to make them look better. Even worse, they consider Akron apart of Cleveland for everything. Is there a way to get rid of the complexes that make up the two cities?

+10000 I made the comment to a friend of mind here in Phoenix that his bags were packed after game 3 of the Boston series. Everyone involed from James to the NBA to ESPN were just BIG TIME TOOLS!

They are stupid so I'm surprised they didn't have something like this. How much ass kissing is enough? Half the expected crowd showed up to LBJpprecitation Day. Why waste the time and effort on a guy who didn't attend UofA and his only connection to UofA is the coach he played for his freshman and soph years of high school? What would be in it for UofA? On my way home from the gym this morning, a couple of DJs on Charlotte radio were blasting how obnoxious this whole thing has become. It was really funny too because they were discussing how in addition to declaring his team, LBJ is going to explain the origins of the universe during his ESPN special tonight. This whole thing is completely out of control and sickening. I will be glad when 10:00 PM hits tonight so I can turn the TV on without having to listen to it. Good luck LBJ. Stay in Cleveland. You won't find a fan base as willing to kiss your ass as this one. +another 1 Except, it won't end at 10 pm. If he signs with a team other than Cleveland, then the media will be all over the sad fan base in NEO and harping on LeBron about what he did to NBA fans in NEO. If he signs with Cleveland, then we'll hear all the "woulda, coulda, shoulda..." ..."had a championship, more endorsements, a piece of Madison Square Garden, followed in Jordan's shoes, yada, yada, yada." Please make it STOP! +1

I agree, but they won't be able to match what other urban schools have become/are becoming. Akron/Toledo/Ohio State/UC have room for thousands of students to live on campus(Ohio State obviously has a lot more being the largest university in the country..). Meanwhile Cleveland State has rooms for a few hundreds of students, not thousands. Once again, I agree. CSU is on an upswing, but they won't be able to match the atmosphere that other urban Ohio schools have growing. Cleveland State WILL NOT have a football team. Does anyone understands how hard it is to start one at any level? They don't even have a place to have games(and if anyone thinks that Browns Stadium is an option, you will see 50-60,000 orange seats and I am being nice!). Getting rid of dead weight, then adding it back makes no sense. It is the "directional schools" mentality that will not fix the conference.

2009 Fun Stats: - Fourth Quarter Scoring: Opponents 106 – Akron 45 - Sacks: Opponents 26 for 165 yards – Akron 11 for 63 yards - Punt return average: Opponents 11 yards per try – Akron 6.4 yards per try To mabye get 6 wins, the fun stats stated must change. I knew that it was a bad year, but I did not think that it was that dismal.

Should UA Capitalize on the World Cup
lance99 replied to Zipsrifle's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
There is nothing to be sorry about. To answer your question........... To advertising around Cleveland(or NE Ohio for that matter), you have to go through the sports food chain in the area. 1.High School Football 2.Browns 3.Indians 4.Cavs 5.Ohio State Football Hopefully, the Marketing Dept. has a plan. It can be done! -
Dambrot has to get to the NCAA tournament
lance99 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
So is this is the "go far in the tournament or else" year? Did you even read the quotations? Seriously though, Dambrot is probably right, and may even be a little generous to himself in this article. I personally think if he doesn't get back to the NCAA's in the next three years (the Zeke era) people will start calling for his head. He probably will even need to win a few games. I like KD as much as the next guy, he's an Akron guy through and through, and he deserves to stay here as long as he keeps providing results. But the reality of college athletics is that nobody really cares what you did last year. You need to keep moving the program forward or your out the door. Take away the fuke endings for a moment. I like KD also, however you can win 20+ games every year, but don't even make it. It might not be this year like I said. Sooner or later that hammer will come down. -

Its early, but: Syracuse win(1-0) They will be one of the worst teams in the country this year. Gardner-Webb win(2-0) This is the Runnin' Bulldogs "ATM" game. at Kentucky loss(2-1) They play Western Kentucky before Akron, so they should be rested. at Indiana loss(2-2) They also play Western Kentucky before akron, so the should be rested. Northern Illinois (Homecoming) loss(2-3) They are good and will take advantage of a new coach in his first homecoming game. at Can't loss(2-4) Before anyone says that I am crazy, let me explain: It's the Wagon Wheel game. They will not win the MAC, they wont even win the East. They will show up for this game(I mean the team, not the fans of Can't). at Ohio win(3-4) This is always an toss up game. The Zips will be more than pissed off that they loss to Can't and looking to make an example out of someone. Ohio will be the first thing they will see. Western Michigan loss(3-5) I almost put this as a win, but I changed my mind because they have a "ATM" game the week before (Notre Dame) and looking to beat down on someone. at Temple loss(3-6) As much as I think that they are using the MAC, Captain Kangaroo was right by saying that the conference to look to them on how to build a program. at Ball State win(4-6) Let's face it: Ball State Stinks and I do't even think that they willl win the EMU game! Miami (Ohio) loss(4-7) Looking at who they play this year. They have TWO winnable games this year. Akron is one and Ohio is the other. Buffalo win(5-7) Buffalo will be somewhat down this year and the Zips will finish on a good note. The question becomes, who will be there to see it? There you go an complete breakdown of this season
-
I got the idea of this because of of all the conferences adding/ losing teams. If the Zips are to stay in the MAC, something has to be done. Make you choice and give a reason why.
-
So the Zips would turn down a Big East conference invite if the Big East didn't also offer K.e.n.t.? And the Zips would feel that they were in a position of power to make the Big East cave to such a demand? Good Lord... I knows it sound crazy, the out would be either take Toledo(Detroit market), Buffalo, Marshall or any Conference USA team(long shot), or the Zips get tons and tons of $$$$!
-
Captain, think about what you just said. "Temple is a top MAC football program." Have the come a long way? Yes they have. But to follow Temple's lead for the success of MAC football. If they were still in the Big East, the would be mabye .500 and that is being nice. There are pluses like you said (NFL stadium, 5 Mac basketball games). Mabye I should reverse my thinking of "we did temple a favor" and start saying "the Big East did us a favor."
-
Why would They take Temple back? They got rid of them because they were THAT BAD! in football. All of a sudden the have the rare good couple of years and they open their arms to welcome them back be cause of the T.V market? That makes no sense. Keep this in mind, If the Big East wanted Akron (and I belive in my mind they do because of the NE Ohio market) I almost promise you that if the Zips is offered to join, they are going to say "If you take us, you take Can't also!"
-
Remember this is all about money. The only reason the Big 10 took Nebraska is because of A: They travel well B: Noone talks about this, they have their own Radio network, so they have a very large reach nationwide C: They wanted to be in the Big ten's back yard for talent that is already here Sooner than later, The Big East will make some type of move. The ACC and SEC will probally do nothing. The Moutian West will add teams and you will see super conferences. I opened a thread about this over a year ago asking about this very thing. It is finally happening and conferences like the MAC will be left in the dust. Now is not the time to sit on you hands.

EMU only had 25,000 total all season!? There are high school teams that draw more(McKinley, Massillion to name a couple) If the NCAA really wanted to enforce the threshold, there are lots of schools, not just in the MAC that would be in trouble.
