  1. I understand some enjoy trying to keep up with the Joneses (even when they're pulling a quarter billion dollars a year from their conference networks and other TV deals, not counting bowl money). While at the same time complaining about local sports fans and students not taking the athletics seriously. Especially when the students are paying a little over a thousand bucks in student fees to maintain this FBS-but-not-FBS status. Never getting more than one seed in the 68 team March Madness. It's a paradox. Not just for Akron or just the MAC, but for programs in the CUSA, SBC, AAC, MWC, and the ashes of the WAC. Talk of another level of play including those conferences was discussed as an answer. Not FCS or D2, but not eating the scraps of the Ohio States and their $100,000,000.00 budgets. Just thinking out loud. Not that it'll ever happen. And the complaints will go on that nobody takes us seriously. Fans, students, media. The football power 5, the basketball selection committee. Crap I don't have to listen to at Canal Park or MiLB forums. I continue to support my alma mater, hoping someday the MAC can get an at-large big in the basketball tourney, and/or an 8 team football playoff including the top ranked G5 program. But all the whining and complaining about both ends at once gets tiring.
  2. I-AA was brought up several times in the past but everybody raised holy hell about "dropping back". Now GP1 is gone and I'm not going there again, just sitting here watchin'.
  3. Yep, it's been brought up several times in the past. As was G5 playing in the spring. The bottom line is the G5 pays for a significant number of scholarships with those away games at OSU, Mich, MSU, ND, etc. And coaching salaries. Lose those games, and you lose schollys, staff, and you're Youngstown State. Best case scenario IMO is if the NCAA expands the playoffs to eight teams, puts the P5 conference winners in, two at-large programs, and the top ranked G5 program. Get the top G5 schools to play each other in non-conference games (late in the season?). That's going to be hard to predict because whenever a G5 school gets ranked, a P5 school poaches their HC.
  4. Man that sucks...
  5. Both teams look frozen.
  6. How many games do you have to win to get a sprinkler?
  7. ^Great minds think alike
  8. Holy crap. I practiced on better fields with my Division 5 high school football team. In the 80's. I thought Indiana was a soccer power, they can't even grow grass.
  9. If that's how we play against a team that hasn't beaten an FBS school, I don't WANT to see them in a bowl. It was embarrassing enough to see that on national TV once...
  10. That's what I was thinking. They would rather put a WR out there instead of their 3rd QB?? Why is he even here if that's the case?
  11. The best part of that game is it's over.
  12. I hope there's no recruits visiting.
  13. We usually take this kind of ass whoopin' to a top 10 megaprogram. Not a second place MAC school.
  14. I've got both on and don't want to watch either.
  15. Akron is wearing blue
  16. Not bad for a linebacker.
  17. THAT'S how you open a game
  18. The most interesting part of this game was watching the camera, trained on the scoreboard at halftime, leaning back until all we saw was sky. Wondering if it was going to fall. The rest, I've never seen Zips soccer play like that.
  19. That second half might have saved the season.
  20. Waste another time out. IN the first half their four minute offense wasted the whole clock. In the second half their clock killing is doing anything but.
  21. THere we go...
  22. That's a relief
  23. A questionable call, and TB is standing on the field instead of the team running another play quick. Now we have to deal with the replay. I don't think ESPN3 has enough cameras to overturn it anyway.
