What in the hell was that??

This can't help. And there's a growing apathy among college-age adults that college is a waste of money. Including on campus.

2016 Zips in Pro Leagues Domestic & International
Spin replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I do this with the FIFA game. Pretty solid side if I say so myself. I use the LA Galaxy franchise, it's about the closest kit I have found. -
I don't think this is posted yet. If so my apology. http://www.thedevilstrip.com/home/better-now-than-never-a-view-from-campus-on-the-dawning-of-the-post-scarborough-era/

Agree 100%. I need to see some PROGRESS. We do have a voice.

What cold weather college baseball needs is a group of schools to form a new conference where you don't travel out of state, you don't chase dreams of being first round Superregional fodder, and you don't spend a ton on scholarships. And the scholly's would be for school only, not boarding. Recruit locally commuter students. Play more games per week in April and May, or have a fall session and spring season, maybe some double headers with minor league teams. It has to be sustainable. With more local flavor, local rivalries, and MLB's increasing popularity, it coud work. But it'll never happen.

Finally...

To be fair, it wasn't a bad idea when the Cavs, Lumberjacks, and Thunderbolts were in Richfield. They hosted the Crunch (the only profitable team in the league) and quite a few shows that clashed with similar shows at the other arena (which at the time was 20 miles away. A few years later the "big time" arena is 0.7 miles away). The Vikings were a big deal when the arena was under development with a Sweet 16 run and a string of winning seasons. Of course later came the NCAA sanctions and soon after the coach was in drug rehab. That's not quite the way to build a major college program. Like so many other things Cleveland, "it seemed like a good idea at the time."

Stark State to build at Perkins & Route 8
Spin replied to Blue & Gold's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Is Stark State a four year college? If not does Akron allow "seemless" transfer from Stark to Akron, ala Lorain CCC? If so I can see this as a big positive for students that don't want to go to the Polsky, or out to Wayne/Medina/Lakewood. -
Understood. I have not watched one inning of college baseball all year on TV, and it seems like there's more and more on every year. Just seeing it in the listings puts a pit in my stomach.

I'm sure those stations would be pushing each other out of the way if there were ratings. KNR has arena football and minor league hockey. IIRC. Div I college sports in NEO only warrants weak AM stations.
-
Well, there are two 24 hour sports talk stations in Cleveland, another one in Akron/Canton, and another in Canton that does an evening sports talk show. As far as music goes, good luck trying to find rock or classic rock music if the Cavs or Indians are playing. Those stations now broadcast sports. Which gives listeners a break from the 15 song loop that continues on 24/7/365 ad nauseum.

Zips Baseball disagrres. He sold out the team to build an "entrance" that nobody would use, then lied about it. Don't think for a minute he or the current directors are going to increase the sports marketing budget, to get the attendance and ratings, that the school needs if it has a hope and prayer of getting a sniff by another conference. If you want to sell NEO as a "major market" you have to distinguish yourself from tOSU, and show that they are going to get ratings here. And when a big name school travels to Akron, the game won't be televised from a half-empty gymnasium. We can't blame local sports fans for not supporting a team they barely knows exists, and has no reason to go to a game. You have to break the perception that you're a junior league school, and losing to Buffalo (a minor league baseball and basketball city) isn't the route. Hell CSU and KSU made tournament runs and was in the news every night, but in the end it didn't move the needle one bit. Marketing and real success could get ratings and attendance to a point where other conferences would take a sniff. And this administration is NOT going to fork over that kind of cash. I feel lucky they haven't dropped us into a lower division. Yet.

Oh wow... -
It was mentioned on "The Drive" during the last couple weeks of the season by guest Steve French that his career was over (being a senior) because of an injury.
-
The sky is not falling, the sun will come up tomorrow, and one year we won't lose a starter to a season-ending injury or arrest.
-
We had a lid on the rim during OT. I think we scored 1. They should have passed more, instead of dribbling around and taking wild shots. Watching too much LeBron? And nobody mentions we were without our starting center. I thought we had it with a few minutes left but it slipped away. I agree with Zippy, we need more BIG game experience. That inexperience was the reason we lost IMO. Still proud to be a Zip, and face the Buckeye honks tomorrow at work. These guys played their ass off and were a couple made shots and/or crap calls away from winning.

Big Dog needs to set up a hoop in his driveway this summer and work on FT's
-
HOLY CRAP they called a foul on tOSU
-
We need to take smarter shots. They're just chucking up crap instead of moving it around.
-
We're taking control of this one guys
-
The Buckeyes player who was supposedly fouled should be on the dive team. Tough to beat the legacy conference opponent and the officials in the other team's arena.
-
Remember when the football team decided to replace the HC and we got the illustrious Icoach era. Be careful what you ask for.

One is for "fans" who want Coach D fired.
