I thought they were better prepared than Icoach's teams (with numerous penalties for lining up wrong and illegal procedure). There was a lack of chemistry with the passing game, especially when Clayton was in the game. He overthrew some passes, and others were on the money but were dropped. He showed willingnss to run, and has some wheels. A nice plus in the spread. Dalton Williams looked better, but was against the second D most of the game. The defense made several big plays, interceptions (including a pick6), numerous sacks, and a safety. Special teams were good (97 yard TD return), bad (several missed FG's), and ugly (a few kicks that never gained altitude). The way the white team ran up the score, I would guess defensive depth is a problem. But I'm encouraged. I think we should at least triple our win total over last year.

The first team D came up with several pics, a couple were called back because the QB was touched. They were also defending the spread with all their backups on the other side of the field. I'm thinking they're ahead of the O at this point.

OK, it works now.

If you want to take along a spring roster, here's a printable one. In the past we could not get them at the game. On the back (if you print both sides, I threw together a depth chart from an early 2011 one, with players taken out who are gone now. And some of the new players added. I'll redo the whole thing in the fall.

So you guys don't see the disadvantage public schools having of forming a team of what they have within a geographical area, after it has been picked apart by the private school recruiters? If me and my sons were on that side of the coin, we wouldn't see what was wrong with that picture either.
-
Amen. My D4 school made the playoffs once in their history, and wound up playing Cardinal Moody in the first round. The following year Mooney was kicked up two divisions. Now how are we suppose to feel about that BS? I know how we DO feel. But then again, my son's team got booted from the playoffs last year by a public school who had Michigan residents on the roster. Just goes to show you how much the OHSAA cars about fairness and schools that don't recruit...

+1+1 Why not hire that blonde who was on that last episode of Dambrot's show to host the football show? She has a future in TV, she already has "the shake" down pat. I don't know why they wasted the first 28 minutes on that old troll...

Having lived through the WFL, USFL, XFL, CFL in USA, WLAF, and ArenaFL1, UFL I'm a bit skeptical. It's one thing to run a minor league basketball or soccer team with 10-20 players. Or a minor league baseball team with the players paid by the major league affiliate.' But football teams are not cheap. You have to outfit 40+ players, pay them, transport them, put them up on the road. I've seen it too many times. I've seen the stories of teams using the other team's jerseys because theirs were repossessed. Roster turnover between games because the player paychecks bounced. Players stranded thousands of miles away because the team folded during a road trip. Practicing on playgrounds because the checks to the high school they were renting the practice field from bounced. Teams moving to other cities DURING the season. I wish them the best of luck, it would be fun to watch. But if I could give one bit of advice to the U if they're going to get involved with this mess, GET PAID UP FRONT. And make sure the check clears!!!

Have a problem with the lack of pride at UA?

Looking forward to going down to the ballpark to watch some ball. Th retention basin was handy when I had afternoon classes on Friday, but otherwise I'm glad they're playing at Canal Park.
-
Well with the ballteam playing downtown more often this year, we'll get to see how many alumni attend games now that they're there amongst beer joints and restaurants. This also opens up the door for the team to move to CP permanently, and using the soccer stadium retention basin they play now for the arena. Another question, and NO this is not Jake related. If the University Park property I brought up on East Market and Mill is considered "downtown" while the campus ballpark property on East Exchange isn't?
-
He might have been the on who brought that up. Jake and I have "a past", I don't remember what the topic was now. But I was pretty surprised to get IM's from him. There was just something "electric" being on campus at night before and after the Buffalo game. It's a whole different atmosphere from rushing from class to class. I would like to be part of that after I graduate, although soccer season is a great chance.
-
How many new off-campus arenas used by colleges are owned by the university?
-
I get IM's from Jake but we have had differences of opinion over this. I changed my stance on the arena being on campus, after the Buffalo game. I named two sites (one on Market and this one on the ball diamond) myself. I came up with all of the reasons the ballpark site makes sense myself. He's never even mentioned it. My opinions come from being a Polsky building student. I don't know if he's ever been in there since it was Polsky's. I pasted the post I got from him. Nobody has answered my question yet...

Downtown is not "ON CAMPUS" no matter how you spin it. It is not a chance to visit the main campus, it is not a chance to show off the main campus. And from the sounds of it, those who are pledging to help fund this also agree. And who's to say an arena adding dates to the sports complex (not to mention the expansive student housing on that street) wouldn't result in more restaraunts and bars opening? None of that downtown stuff was there when Canal Park was Hotel Anthony Wayne... I would never equate Polsky with part of campus. I attend there three days a week for my Minor. It is a community college. It is Wayne College downtown. It serves a much MUCH different clientele than main campus does. It is not something I want to show my family for friends to represent the University of Akron. It is nice, and does a great job of what it does, but does not represent the core campus. Just curious, how many of those off-campus arenas are actually university owned?
-
I disagree, right smack in the middle of campus is fine. It works great for soccer. It highlights the best parts of campus. That said, the baseball stadium is some prime real estate. You put the arena right behind the soccer stands, it can contain facilities for soccer, the track, and for the practice field. It's near the Info. And it's adjacent to Exchange Street. The new Exchange St deck can be utilized. Joe Akron can enter from Exchange St, hitting the bars and restaurants before or after the game. Alumni can walk through campus from any parking area and still be a short walk from the bars and restaurants. All within the shadow of the Info, the Rec, and the Union. ANd it's probably near the geographic center of student housing. Just don't muck up the space between the arena and Exchange with a big ugly parking lot. Keep it green.
