  1. I'm still waiting for some information that indicates that there is any chance that our coach would replace his current starting PG, who he obviously trusts to run his offense, is a senior, clearly our floor leader, and has come up big for us in several critical, pressure situations over the last couple of seasons. And we'll replace him and turn the reigns of the team over to a guy who's yet to even wear a Zips uniform? I'm thinking the chances of that happening are pretty remote. I'm not talking about this year. I'm looking ahead to 2011 since this is a thread on a 2011 commit. Got it. I'm still surprised at the number of comments we get here about Steve being replace at the point this year. I'll be the first to admit that I'm among those leading the charge to see more McNees at SG this year, and I have my reasons why, but that is really a discussion for another place and time. KD will play the best player at the position period. Steve might like being moved to SG. I would like to see them rotate bringing the ball up because each PG has their own tempo and tendencies.
  2. I just checked. The splash page is GW. I'll have what you've had.
  3. We had better win byat least 26
  4. Problem solved...you can now pay $15 for the next five home games. Limited time special
  5. We were cool until you ripped on the greatest tailgating area in the entire sporting world. I'd take the Rubber Bowl tailgating ANY day over the set up on campus. The stadium...well yeah that's a different story. Amen. How can you beat having one big giant party in a wide open grass field? I actually really thought I'd grow to like the "campus tailgating" atmosphere after the Morgan State game. There were house parties going on everywhere. It made me forget about the Rubber Bowl for a week. But, it just hasn't been the same since. Last Saturday, I felt no enthusiasm in the areas around the campus at all. I still like the idea of tailgating at the Bowl, and then coming to the Info for the game. I think he was still talking about Can't.
  6. I've done the restaurant alone numerous times on business travel. Now with many restaurants serving food at the bar, sitting here (at the bar) and having dinner is pretty commonplace (and much less weird feeling). I haven't done the solo movie....yet. I hate the way the hostess looks at me when I ask for a table for one. I usually just get something to go and take it back to my room. Going to a football game or any other game alone is not that strange. It is unusual for me but it sure is a hell of a lot cheaper than taking my soon to be wife and her never ending thirst for hot chocolate with me. I have been to an Akron basketball game twice by myself because the weather was crappy and nobody wanted to brave the storm. That wasn't strange at all. I went to the last football game alone last year because we were that bad and everybody knew it by that point in the season. Plus cold weather didn't help.
  7. That is an amazing idea. Some top talent would show up almost instantly for playing time and a chance to show what they have.
  8. You can come and sit by me.
  9. I think you're wrong there. I bet 95% of us would still say going for it was right in that situation because it was....period. You can analyze it for the rest of the season but almost anyone on here is going to disagree with what Coach I did. I think you take the points at the 23. If we were at the 35, go for it. I think most other coaches would do the same. Too early in the game to leave points on the field. The Akron kicking game is not reliable despite the first field goal. Same kickers as last year.
  10. I practiced with both of them everyday, and just trust me when I say Nick Sparks was not on the same level as Charlie Frye. Sparks was very physically gifted but the guy didn't have it upstairs to be playing QB. He played out his career at the right position. But seriously, enough with the generational comparisons here. Back to Zip Football 2010. Nicely needs to get in the film room and get better. His accuracy is always going to be an issue. He doesn't have great recievers. But if he knows opposing schemes like the back of his hand going into games, he'll take us where we want to go. 70% of being a good QB is knowing where to go with the ball and going there with precise timing. Nicely looked lost Saturday. He not only was off on his throws, but he was throwing to the wrong places at the wrong times. 10% may be his receivers. 10% of that may be his accuracy. 10% of that can maybe be blamed on the coaching. 70% of it however can likely be blamed on the fact that PN didn't do his homework. I am glad that he didn't throw 3-4 picks because his recievers were just not getting open.
  11. He is they guy that was hired to hand footballs to the same people every year (Taylor's, BFG Credit Union, Pizza Guys) and this time a Hall of Famer. Plus I think he is on youtube.com sometimes.
  12. As someone who has been accused of focusing too much on statistics, I believe I am eminently qualified to address the issue of Nicely's 12 of 35 (34%) pass completion percentage. Unless you actually witnessed the game, you wouldn't know that Nicely put more than 50% of the passes that he threw to his receivers into or near their hands, i.e. catchable. About a third of his statistical pass attempts were not actual pass attempts. They were passes deliberately thrown out of bounds to avoid a sack because all of the receivers were well covered and the Syracuse defensive line was pouring through the Zips offensive line. Since intended incompletions (deliberately throwing the ball away) do not have their own statistical category, they get lumped in with unintended incompletions under pass completion percentage. Without knowing that a large percentage of the incompletions were deliberate, one cannot fairly and accurately judge the QB's actual pass accuracy performance. The fact that Nicely threw no interceptions indicates that he was smart enough not to try to force the ball into a tight Syracuse secondary when his receivers were smothered, which was most of the time. Nicely's performance was obviously not that good, but it was far from the Zips biggest problem last night. The QB did not have a lot of support, and he's not good enough to win games by himself. That's all well and good. However, great QBs thread the needle with or without support. If you can thread the needle, the rush backs off. 40% completion, maybe I back off. 33%, no way. It's terrible regardless of how you look at it. Your last statement may be the most profound of all. If he isn't enough to win games in the MAC, we have a problem. The MAC is a QB driven league and there are times he will have to be enough to win. Nicely threw away 4 balls at least instead of throwing a pick or getting sacked. Taken for granted that throw-aways are always a part of a QBs completion ration, 12/31 is 39% (Nicely was 12/35 passing). I saw about 8 balls that were thrown away.
  13. It's 2010....Go to ticketmaster before you leave your house, buy tickets so and then you won't have to stand in line. There is no line on the internet. You completely missed the point. This is not the way a professional organization should operate. How about a little customer service. Besides, not that it should make a difference, but my son didn't decide to go until that day. Ticketmaster runs 24/7. You could have spent five minutes on it before leaving for the game. It's 2010.....those who had to stand in line have nobody to blame but themselves. So you are making excuses for poor customer service...besides being a jerk. I have asked the AD about this a couple of times. The ticket purchase transaction time is about 3-5 min a person. Way too long for only having about 10 windows that are not dedicated to will call. They have the same problem during basketball season. A 5 person line is about 20-30 min waiting. Plus the credit card system seems to go down all the time. Hell they were manually tyoing in credit card info last year. Buy a scanner these type of issues should be handled by the director and assistant director of ticket sales...they pay them good money to sell very few tickets and providing poor customer service. Also, the Ticketmaster fees are crazy.
  14. $20 for ga usually $15
  15. I hate paying the ticketmaster fees on presale tickets. We have about 5 people in our group (give or take the girls afraid of rain and cold) that will buy tickts today. The fees are crazy just to be able to walk over to the will call window.
  16. Parking Map We're in the same boat and told our friends to park in the Exchange deck. Park downtown and take one of many shutles. They are free and frequent.
  17. I just got back from Giant Eagle on Howe. I saw about 20 syracuse fans stocking up on tailgating supplies. I was also approached by three people while I was there to talk about tailgating at the game today. My zips hat and sweatshirt drew some attention. There is excitement out there and we are not the only fans. GO ZIPS!
  18. I've called a few times today and they were great. Adam helped me out with a parking pass. Should I buy a parking pass for Lot 8 (the only good lot left) or should I just stick to 34?
  19. I'm a big fan of lot 34. Plenty of space and not traffic. 1. We arrived really early last year and we just set up shop. No issues. 2. It doesn't matter if you get there early. Follow the Garmin. 3. Don't know about 43 but parking was $5 for 34 last year. 4. Did not see a shuttle but I got picked up by the campus and bar shuttles on exchange street and dropped off right by Spicer. The bus drivers are nice and will stop for you. If that doesn't work, you can drive your car to the area by the soccer field w/o leaving the parking lot pay controlled area. It is about 200-300 yards from that point to the Info. 5. There are many regulars in 34. Beer relays, music, and corn hole are the norm. Again, plenty of space for all. 6. You will be fine in lot 34 as long as you don't wear Can't State gear. I don't think you would have any issues at all. A few rowdy parties but many families as well. We will have a group of 15-20 ex Akron athletes, friends and family in our group. All that we can hope for is nice weather and Syracuse to come out flat... Thanks great stuff...expect I'll set up in one of the corners of the Lot. If we bring a small LCD TV and a set of kangaroo (rabbit) ears can we pick up ABC, NBC, CBS, etc??? from Akron? BTW, if I arrive by 1pm should the lot be pretty vacant so I could set up in one of the corners? I hope you come by and have one of our famous Hoffman White Coneys...from Syracuse. Texan From Gameday Central GOLF CART SERVICE Golf cart service will be available for anyone needing assistance getting to the stadium from the open public parking lots beyond shuttle's route. To request the service, ask any lot attendant posted at your
  20. Much like our own situation in previous years, I still wonder why people make such a big deal out of these number alignments. I'm sure this defense will feature a Rover in the middle of the field who can play both the run and the pass. And that differs dramatically from having a 4-3 where a 3rd linebacker would have to carry basically the same responsibility? It shouldn't matter all that much though our no player in our starting secondary is over 5-9. I think it was obvious last year that the 5 backs on the field were not big enough to effectively stop anything and the three linemen were not able to pressure the QB. Put some beef on the field this year and see what happens.
  21. I will celebrate with you if this happens. It's not going to happen unless Syracuse brings well into the thousands. I think you're incredibly underestimating the number of people that were there for the Morgan State game ONLY to participate in the "opening" of the new stadium. Just look at the following week, the Indiana game, for a comparison of what you think you will see here. Amazing Stadium....check, Good Opponent...check, PERFECT Weather......but, about 10,000 less in attendance. Might that be true because Morgan State is not Syracuse?
  22. I really hope you're wrong about the attendance being under 20k. The game is "free" for students. We don't even have Cowlumbus State to compete with for attendance...their game is tomorrow (Thursday) night. Anything over 20k would be a big surprise to me. And I think it depends on a huge Syracuse following. We all need to come to the realization that the curiosity-seekers who wanted to see the new stadium are gone. We need to depend on football fans to fill the stands now. I think the students at the game will double from last year. What makes you think that Max? Any inside information or just a hunch? I hope you are right because students get a helluva lot louder than 41 year olds. There are more students living on campus or near campus now and we are playing syracuse not and FCS cupcake. I also don't believe that they are doing the stupid wristband thing this year. I am sure that cut down on some students attending the game. Also, the students who attended games regularly last year for the first time should return with a larger number of incoming freshmen backing them.

  24. It means that the kid that was furiously and recklessly typing this up this morning wasn't paying attention and didn't do his homework.
