Right. LaFrance, too. He's the only receiver on offense doing squat. On a positive note though: I LOVE AUSTIN BAILEY. That kid lights people up every play he's on the field. Want more success in the running game? Let him play battering ram. He has pretty good hands, too.

Why doesn't this coaching staff teach Nicely to slide? Or even run out of bounds? I can't believe how many times he just put his head down and was demolished today (and last week). Do we really need to watch Matt Rodgers throw 3 INTs again? Do we really want to see him on the field again at any position but WR? Facing an SEC team and a B10 team in the next two weeks, I will be surprised if Nicely comes out unhurt.

Aren't those the coolest pens? One mine's ears broke off, though.

Wow, this topic should have died a long time ago.

Don't you mean, "Other than Brett Biggs"?Actually, looking back on what I said initially, I will reverse the order of the names. Biggs was better, longer than Kennedy. Kennedy just had a monster season.

I can't decide which is worse: Chick-Fil-A's food or the Cleveland Browns.

I got this email. Seemed a little forced and pathetic to me. But that's just me being a cynical college student.

Zips: 14Bobcats: 10I'm going to call 10 tackles, 2 INT and 2 FF by Brian Wagner. His true hello to the MAC.

From what I understand, Ferri is a class act. I respect his decision to resign. At the same time, I won't miss his running back prowess. Other than Dennis Kennedy (and arguably Brett Biggs), Akron's running game has been really weak during his tenure.

Homecoming is usually a pretty big draw. On the other hand, this Zips team has disappointed beyond what anyone could have anticipated. The weather is looking like the coldest day of the week and a potential for rain.If it's raining, the only reason I'll be going is to see my girlfriend on in her dress.<18000

Yes, I'm sure the Zips will give up 45 points to CMU when they only gave up 31 to a far superior PSU offense.Zips - 10CMU - 20

That happens when you're getting hit by a DE every time you're trying to throw into double coverage

The basketball team was there - pretty much all of them. I was walking in behind a really tall kid and thinking he should be playing with them. It was Mike Bardo. I think a little recognition would have been good too, especially since they were advertising season tickets. Was kind of cool having LeBron there. He was also at the Cowboys-Giants game this evening. Must be good to be the King. Speaking of that game since it was the nationally televised Sunday night game, I did enjoy seeing two Zips players starting and saying "Akron" as their school. I would bet two Zips introducing themselves to a national TV audience because they were in the starting lineup has never happened before.Forgive me, but I am having trouble with the second Zip. I know Hixon, of course. Is Chase Blackburn starting for the Giants now, too?

We need a little more depth at QB before we start putting them in that situation...May I ask why? We all know if/when Rodgers gets hurt, JD will reinstate Jaq for the next game. -
Rodgers was competing with Jaquemain for the starting job not too long ago. Many of you even called for him. I don't think Jaq would have thrown 3 straight interceptions. Rodgers played like a robot Saturday. I know it's his first game, but I don't buy into the 'it's against the B10' garbage. IU is basically a B9.5 team. They are no better than us, and Rodgers single-handedly lost us the game Saturday.

A new quarterbacks first start is against a Big Ten team with a solid defense in a game that he didn't even dream he'd be playing in until the day before. He's probably taken one practice worth of snaps with the 1st string. Maybe the problem is NO Akron FAN should be booing ANY Akron player, especially a quarterback thrown into those circumstances, unless they did something to warrant suspension for the rest of the season and put the team in a very tight spot. Anyone who cared about Akron sports would've told you to shut up....and anyone who cares about seeing Akron fielding a winner would boo excessively poor QB play.

In theory, that type of running works if you have those types of RBs. Maybe if our RBs ran 4.3 forty yard dashes instead of 4.5-4.6 they would have some chance of creating plays. -
Had Jaq been injured against Morgan State and was questionable for the game, I'm sure the Zips would have been preparing for Rodgers during practice. HOWEVER, Jaq was suspended the night before the game. Our first string QB got the first string reps all week, as he should have. There is absolutely nothing they could have done to better prepare Rodgers for the game.

I really wonder what effect removing JD would have. Our offense can't get a whole lot worse, and our defense plays well, with little or no thanks to him. I want a coach who will install a run oriented offense. If executed well, that could dominate the MAC (control the clock, cut down turnovers). -
I'm sorry, but I don't care how talented he is. A 5'6 PG is going to have a tough time transitioning to a level where all the players are half a foot taller than him.Pass

I agree with everything you said except for the CMU comment. If we lose to CMU (which is very likely), we should go into panic mode. That's what we get for not beating IU like we were supposed to. We needed to win against one of IU or CMU. If we lose both, that puts a lot of pressure on the team for the heavy road schedule ahead.
-
If we lose the next couple, should JD be let go mid-season?
zestycoyote replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
I don't think that there would be any point in firing JD mid-season. It wouldn't make much of a difference. I think it's way too early to start talking about this anyway. So far, we have lost to two B10 teams. Granted, IU's legitimacy can be questioned, but they still play in a superior conference. If UA starts losing a bunch of MAC games, then I think it will be appropriate to discuss the head coach's job security. -

I'm not saying go all out Flexbone, but I would love to see Akron incorporate some option plays. -
What about that punt that appeared to clearly hit an Indiana LB and then recovered by the Zips? Anybody take a look at that on video?I was also curious about that punt. I honestly can't say I saw it hit an IU player, but I had been distracted during that entire play. I would imagine it was at least worth a review from the booth. It seemed like a big play that could be detrimental to IU was never reviewed, but Akron's interception by their own goal line for instance was reviewed. I call biased officiating based solely on those two plays.

It was funny because like I told my dad after the game, after the first half, I was thinking the Zips could possibly run the table in the MAC. However, at the end of the game, I would be suprised if we went .500 in conference play. Disgusting. How did you ever think the Zips could run the table in conference play? BGSU is definitely better than we are, and this is still the MAC, right? You know, where the worst team beats the best team at random? It's very tough to run the table in our conference, mostly because of bad coaching.
