For the past couple days, I've heard ESPN Cleveland (850AM) advertise the OSU-Akron soccer game on air. In fact, just heard it. They said that as of tuesday, there is still tickets available...

Here's what they're now doing even though their head coach complains about Akron students being behind the goal. Comments are hilarious as well... http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=101...e=1&theater

In case everyone is wondering, Ohio State is bringing 2 buses of students up for the game tomorrow. The Rowdies are expecting a student record attendance for this game. Which will be remarkable with how many students was there for the Tulsa game.

I want to also mention this as well. If anyone was there today, and heard the very few vuvuzelas be more loud than usual as the game went on today at random spots. The reason for that was because one of the stadium staff members told us that an EMU parent and/or fan was complaining about the vuvuzelas. He also told us that the person thought it was unsportsmanlike to blow those vuvuzelas during the match. So he told us he wanted us to blow them louder than we already were. During women's games, some of us students usually travel from The Hill, to the other side, since there's not many people there. The person that complained was on that side taking photos for her daughter or for the team in general, not quite sure. But when one of us started blowing one of the vuvuzelas, she took a hold of it, and then tugged on it and through it onto the practice field. Then laughed about it like a little kid. One of the assistant coaches for Lady Zips, saw it, and opened the practice field's gate for us to go get it. Want to thank that assistant coach for helping us out there. The very creepy part was that the person was taking photos of us as well even though the person was not very "happy" about what we were doing. She tossed the vuvuzela onto the practice field just a minute or two before Ashley Hughes scored the first goal. So not sure if karma helped or not as well -

I was there this weekend. They've been playing better each match since they lost to South Florida 1-0. They beat Florida Atlantic 4-0 a couple weekends ago, Eastern Illinois 2-0 last weekend, and then tied the back-to-back defending MAC Champions, Central Michigan, 0-0. They then beat Eastern Michigan 3-0 today. The team is playing better, but if they can execute their passes and control the ball better, no one can stop this team. Coach Pfau was right that the talent level of this team is right up there, and possibly better, than the rest of the MAC. Very impressed. Needs to see if we can win on the road next weekend at Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. If we can do that, this team is going to be one to watch the rest of the year. Just to give you an idea, 5 out of the 8 teams in the MAC tournament last year was from the MAC West. We only got 1 win(3 pts) from MAC West teams last year. We already have 4 pts this year against the MAC West. Here's the improvement from last year to this year: 2010 AT Central Michigan L 1-3 AT Eastern Michigan L 1-4 2011 vs Central Michigan T 0-0(2OT) vs Eastern Michigan W 3-0 I feel bad that they didn't show Kelly DeNiro's goal. It was a boom of a kick, and was in the upper right of the goal. Was one heck of a kick. Just to give you the class for these 3 goals and who scored: Junior Ashley Hughes scored in 54th minute Sophomore Kelly DeNiro scored in 68th minute Freshman Alexandra Frawley scored in 83rd minute -
Perfect timing for Luke Holmes' first match. Can't wait to see the impact he makes this week on the team in a match instead of just in practice...

Creighton defeated St. Mary's 1-0. UConn defeated St. John's 2-0.
-
Florida Gulf Coast defeated #9 Central Florida 2-1 today.
-
Notre Dames defeats #5 Louisville 1-0.
-
Other top 5 scores: #1 Maryland at Virginia Tech. Can't find live stats or anything for it. #2 UConn and St. John's are currently tied 0-0 in 2nd half. #3 Creighton is beating St. Mary's 1-0 at halftime #5 Louisville losing to Notre Dame 1-0 with a couple mins left.

Nicely had his chance. Let's give Moore the season to see what he can do. In my opinion, he's better than Nicely. I highly doubt Nicely would of done better against OSUcks, Temple, and Cincinnati. Don't forget, Nicely was the quarterback when we lost to Gardner-Webb. Let's see what Moore does against VMI, before we start calling for Moore's head. We can't see what Nicely and Moore does in practice, but the coaches do. Even though I have my dislikes about the coaching staff, they wouldn't start the quarterback that is more terrible than the other one. Each decision they make is an effect on their jobs in the future. They don't try to screw it up on purpose. If people are saying to stop hating Ianello, let's stop hating Moore

I was going through that site, and found this little bit on a different article:"In NFL action, the Bengals play host to San Francisco on Sunday. When the 49ers finish that game, they won't head back to the West Coast. Instead, the club will stay in Youngstown. Multiple sources are telling MyValleySports.com that San Francisco plans to use Youngstown State's facilities to practice. The team plays in Philadelphia the following Sunday and would prefer not to make the travel to the East Coast consecutive weeks."With the great facilities we have, why can't the 49ers use our facilities?

The part that I thought was interesting is the confidence Alex Allen has at their practices that he won't be brought down. He's wearing no pads, and he told the players to try and tackle him...

Second round of conference expansion is beginning.

Huggins left because going to Div1 in football forces us out of the OVC ... a conference with an automatic bid in the NCAA tournament. Huggins did not have problems with the football team....just its impact on the basketball team and its ability to get into the NCAA tournament. You are right though that the decision to go to Div1 ultimately drove Huggins away. If we could have joined a NCAA bid conference after leaving the OVC he would have stayed....but he would have eventually leave because he wanted the chance to compete at the highest level.I agree about Huggins eventually leaving, but I believe Faust had something to do with it. My grandfather worked at UA's physical plant until 1999, and he's told me plenty of stories about Faust, Huggins, and even the guy that ran the memorabilia shop inside the JAR. He even mentioned to me about the equipment manager at the time did equipment for all sports, and Faust wanted him gone. He left and only did equipment for the football team at Ball State. He's told me other stories as well. Just don't have the time to tell them all... -

I feel like history is repeating itself. First, we hire a Notre Dame coach in Faust, completely torn it down and said "We're going to bring big time football to Akron." Conferences were moving around, and he kept us from moving since the football program was so bad. Basketball coach left since he felt Akron didn't care about basketball(which at the time, Faust got whatever he wanted basically). Now, we hire another Notre Dame coach, completely tearing it down and how this is the "New Generation of Akron Football." Some generation...Anyways, this is a crazy conference realignment time, and once again, we're going to be left behind because of the football program is horrific right now. At least we know Dambrot and Porter don't want to leave, so the .part of a highly talented coach leaving is not at risk(maybe the women's basketball coach?).It's going to be rough. Too bad Ianello can't make a stupid mistake and then we can fire him for that. He's a smart guy and a great WR coach, just a terrible head coach. -

Sounds like the "host" is trying to make amends for referring to the AK-Rowdies by some other name a year ago -- what was it? He's a good guy, though, so humor him! I remember the soccer games were played between the HS band show and the football pre-game during Acme-Zip Saturdays -- however I never witnessed one as they always came about 3-4 hrs before the football game. Not sure how many folks were present -- but probably more than the 500 or so who watched at Lee Jackson in the day. I hope I can get off work at 1 o'clock to watch Friday. Go Zips!I believe he called us the AK-49ers a couple times actually lol...Does he want history on how the AK-Rowdies started and how it grew so popular at Zips' soccer games?I forgot about the AK-Rowdies being called another name last year on FSC. Lol. We'll get that corrected this Friday. This actually is not for the Friday night broadcast. Its for another show aired on FSC. "We Live Soccer" about the passion of soccer fans. Anyways, they will be in attendance Friday night. The American Outlaws were on in last months episode. They used footage from the USA/Canada match in Detroit, the game I attended. Anyways, the host(she) of the show contacted me and was looking for some good stories to cover about the fans before and during the game. I already mentioned lots about the AK-Rowdies, hopefully they'll meet up with the students at the march and get some interviews in the crowd.okay lol. Do you want me to write the history of how the Rowdies first got involved with men's soccer? headaviatorrowdie might be better to explain it then i am, since he was there when Porter asked about this. I wasn't there. Just putting pieces together from what I've heard Porter tell us Rowdies and what other people have told me from the "Goal Patrol." -
