  1. Maryland may fall a bit in next week's poll as they drew with Seton Hall tonight.
  2. I don't understand how UNC is above the Zips in both polls. They lost to Va Tech who isn't even in the top 48 of TDS. Meanwhile, the Zips tied a couple of very tough teams. Makes no sense to me.
  3. Nagbe named the Soccer by Ives MLS Rookie of the Week.
  4. Holmes just tweeted this: "Just one more game. #cantwait #excitedisnottheword" I think he's going to provide the team a much needed boost and the experience he will bring will be invaluable to this young team. Where does everyone think he will fit in? If I had to guess, I'd see him taking over for Schmitt, but who knows.
  5. Wow, just got home and watched the replay of the red card. Mattocks needs to learn to back down! He was bumped into by the keeper and he got in his face. Just walk away! His ego really bothers me. If we had more depth up front I'd be hoping that Porter sat him a game or two after the suspension to really teach him a lesson. Such a disappointing match. Hopefully, it's just the youth showing through and we can correct the issues before the end of the season.
  6. An FYI: According to the mac-sports.com website, the Cal Poly game will be streamed online even though it's not a MAC game. Can't leak much info, but Akron will be using another new back 4 tonight. Can maybe piece it together based on who wasn't playing last game and who played well when given an opportunity...Look for this to be as serious a threat of a game to end the Akron win streak, it won't be easy at all.Dagilis over Gallego? Not too sure what I think of that. Haven't been to impressed with Dagilis in the past, but he was solid last match.
  7. Thanks for posting this. I think I'm going to head over and catch the first part of the Cal Poly- Syracuse match before the march. Go Zips!
  8. The Rowdies just posted a pump up video for the game tomorrow night. At the very end is Caldwell's goal and Zarek rushing the field. Too funny!
  9. Barson and Caldwell earn team of the week awardsCaldwell made the College Soccer News ToW and Barson made the Top Drawer Soccer ToW. Interestingly enough, former Zip McCaully Tulloch made both lists. Caldwell is absolutely on fire dating back to last season. Early in 2010 I was questioning what Porter saw in Scottie, but man his persistence has paid off. Two assists and a goal again on Saturday. If he keeps up, he may be a Hermann candidate...
  10. Seeing that I only make it back home for 1-2 games per year, that sounds very bad. You would think that the team being as bad as they are that the coach would go far out of his way to try to earn the students support. How in the hell does our AD not see the same thing that you see? Or better question is does he see it and not care?I think it makes it even more egregious of an error that there is a prime example of how to connect with the students, yet Ianello does not follow up with a similar approach. I know that is part of the reason I love the soccer team so much. The "I Believe" chant at the end of wins with the team is incredible. When I show up to a soccer match and participate, I feel that I may have had a tiny impact on the game. It's not just the team either that connects with the students. After the Ohio State draw last year, Porter came over and personally apologized for the play of the team to the students who made the trip. Maybe Ianello needs to attend a few soccer matches.
  11. Watched webcast from SLU.....TOTALLY DOMINATED ENTIRE GAME :DThe Mobile Version sure wasn't working... couldn't get anything but the score... no game stats... no quasi real-time info. With a score this large, and an obvious win, why does Porter not give the subs more time?My guess is that giving the starters more time to gel is more important to him than giving the subs action. They only had like 2-3 weeks in preseason and most of the starters have never played together. Only way to gel is to be out on the pitch at the same time. Besides, it was only 2-0 in the 85th minute.
  12. You have to remember that something like 90% of students commute. I have to drive whether it's at the RB or on campus. Personally, I came to the game with a few friends and was planning on staying about a half and then going home and shelling out the $10 to stream the soccer game. Thanks to the ridiculous weather delay, I only saw the first 9 minutes of the game before I went home to watch a team that can actually win and puts up a solid product. I'll be back for a few more games this year, but it really is painful to watch...
  13. Watched webcast from SLU.....TOTALLY DOMINATED ENTIRE GAME :DI chipped in with a couple friends for the webcast. Caldwell's goal was really impressive. Top of the box with the left foot and went top corner with it. Plus two assists. He's on fire! Dark horse Hermann candidate?
  14. I could be wrong, but I think that we are going to play them on one of those dates, not both of them. Probably depends on which day ESPN prefers.
  15. We're definitely going to have to grab a Puerto Rican flag next season with Abreu and 'Melo. Zach, please expound. Who are these guys? I'm not Zack, but I know the answer. Abreu and Melo are on the basketball team. Abreu played a great deal last year as a freshman and Melo will be coming in this coming year although I think it might be the year after. Both are from PR. As to the thread, I love the idea. Nik has seemed to really appreciate the Serbian flag. I have to think that the other players would appreciate the gesture as well.
  16. Where do you draw the line? You been to many swim meets lately? If not are you a "true Zip fan"? Personally I'm with Jacob, I can think of more things than I have time to list that I'd rather do than attend a women's soccer match... I don't think that makes me any less of a Zips fan, it just means I don't really care for women's soccer. I think the main question is, if Women Soccer would turn into a power house like Men's Soccer, would you go to it then? If you say yes, then you are less of a Zip fan than Mes, if you say no, then you don't care about women soccer. Personally, If Swimming was really really good, and competing for national titles, I still probably wouldn't go to often. To be honest, it depends on their style of play. I hate the American style right now. This is why I don't follow the MLS. I'd rather watch good Euro soccer. If all the NCAA men's programs played "sexy football" and the Zips were only an average team, then I would still watch them. If the Zips start playing like NIU or some other physical, straightforward team, I wouldn't go to nearly as many matches. So for me, it's more about the style than wins and losses. Right now, Porter has the guys playing an extremely attractive style. I can't say the same for Pfau and that's why I don't go to nearly as many games. The fact that I made it out to 2 games last year makes me a bigger "fan" than probably 95% of the students on campus last year.
  17. I hate to break it for those whining about the attendance, but this is women's soccer. I highly doubt the attendance is any better elsewhere around the country at women's games. I've been to a couple games since I started going to Akron and frankly, the only reason I'll go again is for roowards points. The speed, skill and style of play isn't even on the same planet as the men's team. Fact is that God built men and women different physically. I hope that the women go out and win a championship, but I've got better things to do than commute half an hour for mediocre soccer. If the men played like an average MAC soccer team, I probably wouldn't go to many of their matches either. Now if I lived on campus, I would probably make it out to a few more women's games.
  18. The Cal State Northridge announcer just said that he couldn't read the gold numbers since they're wearing their whites. haha
  19. Too bad the coach already used the challenge. Yeah, he shouldn't have used it there. But, I think it's kind of ridiculous that you only get one challenge. If the refs blew the call, they shouldn't get away with it. Then again, you can't have challenges every 10 minutes. Tough spot.
  20. He didn't get that first down!
  21. Since when did Bauserman turn into Pryor?
  22. Exactly, if this had happened in mid-October I would be much more worried.
  23. Well, first draw of the season. Have to remember that this team is going to struggle at points this season. Plus, the refs seemed to be allowing a lot of hacking from CSF. Hopefully, this is something the young guys can build on and learn from.
