Vote for Nagbe and Bunbury for Goal of the Year
jem101 replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I think that it should come down to Nagbe and Hassli's goal which was on the other page featuring groups 1-4. I'm voting for Nagbe though! -
There definitely ought to be a change after the ACC tournament but depending on the actual RPI numbers it can not be simply viewed that a loss will drop them very far given the RPI of who they lose to and whether it is home or road game. At least we know there won't be any ties.Actually, for RPI purposes, I'm pretty sure that games that end in PKs are counted as a tie.

Looking at the list, Boston College and UNC are both right in front of the Zips. Hopefully, Maryland wins the ACC tournament and knock out those two in the process.

I can't believe he still has a job! Sure he has free speech as an American, but if Can't feels that what he said goes against their values (or lack thereof) they have every right to fire him! I guarantee if he had gone in and said "Death to Homosexuals" they would have fired him! I'm sick of cowering in fear to Radical Muslims!

Speaking of ex-Zips, Tulloch is in the TDS Top 10 of upperclassmen. Porter sure does know how to recruit forwards! Hopefully he can pull in another great one for next year!

Not working for me either. Trapp has been a rock in the midfield this year. Often I don't even notice him out there, but I think that is what his role dictates. Often, at the holding mid position, you only get noticed if you're doing something wrong. Unless of course your name is Perry Kitchen. As for Gallego and Yedlin, they have to be in the top 25. An interesting thing that the announcers were noticing last night is how BG was giving Barson all the space in the world while pressuring Gallego. It seemed like they were more worried about Gallego making a big pass than Barson. Pretty impressive given how experienced Barson is, yet they seemed more afraid of Gallego's playmaking ability. Of course, they may have also wanted to take advantage of Gallego's inexperience to force a easy turnover... Just an interesting note.

Weekly College Soccer Polls
jem101 replied to GoZipsGoZips's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Besides the Zips, the Lobos haven't played anyone. Also, NIU is #16! Looks like the MAC may get 2 teams in. -
That's tough. His contract right now is really good, and I'm pretty sure he loves where he is at in life at the moment, but it doesn't mean he couldn't leave. We saw him turn down an offer from an MLS side before, which is very reassuring, but if he was offered a full time position with US Soccer, it could be a different story. There is no reason to lose respect for someone who is trying to achieve their ultimate goal. I really do not think it is going out on a limb to say that Porter could very well one day be the coach of the senior national team. Him trying to get there isn't selling out. If he left us for another college team, that would hurt. As long as he is moving up, I can't blame him. Right now though, this is the PERFECT position. He is staying with us while having an incredible part time job with US Soccer. What a deal.+1 If he left us for another NCAA program (which he has shown he won't do), I'd be upset. If he was moving up the ranks, I'd wish him the best of luck. I've go the upmost respect for Porter. Hopefully he wins a few more championships before he moves up. Go Zips!

They sent out a special Zipmail for this announcement!

That page is still bringing up an error but you can clearly see the headline. Someone on twitter posted this though, and it works, not sure how though. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/sear...3.1.5-1.1.1l9l0It's working for me. PORTER!

Scores from around the Nation

St. John's lost to Villanova today. -
The ref deemed it to be a controlled pass obviously.Haha, very true. Shouldn't have let a refs call make that big of a difference when we should be the superior side.
-
Doing a bit of quick research, it looks like it all depends on if you view Yedlin's pass is a controlled one. If it was a controlled pass, then he's not off. If it isn't a controlled pass, then the he is off. Obviously, this wasn't a controlled pass.
-
No OS when the ball is last played by a defender. Yedlin toe poked the ball backward towards Meves. After watching the highlight. You are correct. Guess the ref got it right.
-
Thats what I was told by my son who watched the game....he said the guy was clearly offsides...wonder why no call. Also said play from Yedlin to Quinn when he hit the post should have ended it.Caldwell jumped out of the way of that shot. All he had to do was put out his foot and redirect it! Oh well... Really close tonight. Tough loss. Hopefully we get a close matchup for the Elite Eight game so we can drive to the match.
-
There isn't even a debate. He was off by at least a yard. Zips got screwed there.
-
I knew Michigan was having a tough season, but I didn't realize that they were 4-10-1! Given our recent regular season domination of UM, this could be another blowout. Can't take it lightly, but another UM blowout would be very welcome!

Wow. That's two losses for UNC against teams they should have easily taken care of. Hopefully, they can turn around and take out Maryland on Friday. -
I texted my buddy that LeBron and Durant were on campus for practice and he texted me back: "I don't believe it because LeBron is incapable of recruiting his friends to come play in state."

Just want to clarify, that if that is towards me, that before I even brought him to Akron this weekend for the games, I told him that anything that is said at the games, stay at the games. None of the stuff gets said in your classroom, your own soccer games, and hanging out with friends. He understood. I'm sorry, but I feel today's society is a little too sensitive. Not trying to be offensive, just stating how I feel about it. My parents never had a problem with me going to events like this, just as long as I understood not to repeat some of them. It's just like video games(computer PC games when I was growing up). some games are just for the game itself. Not reality. You have to pick and choose what's reality and what to say where and when. It just comes down to the way you were raised, and the way you grow up with those values. It had nothing to do with your comment. Nothing at all. My little brother is seven. If he was older it would probably be a different story anyways.

Personally, I had no problem with the Rowdies moving. I didn't feel alienated at all by that. I could have gone with them if I felt like it. My biggest gripe and the reason I feel alienated by the organization right now is the lack of class associated with it. It's one thing to shout at him that his parents wanted a girl and they got one, and it's a totally different to say they should have aborted or used some form of birth control. You can get in the keeper's head and still be classy. Our soccer team doesn't resort to dirty play and our supporters shouldn't resort to dirty trash talk. We're better than that. Also, I'm going to sound like a prude here, but the language of the members, especially the head members, is for the most part appalling. I just don't get why that's necessary. I'm a really conservative guy whose faith is very important to me. I still stand with the ROWDIES, but I'm sure there are plenty of people like me who stay away from the group for this reason. I know I would never bring my little brother to a game to stand with the ROWDIES. Jus because I'm not your typical member doesn't mean I don't support my club. I might not swear at the keeper and take crude jabs at his parents, but I still contribute. I show up for every march, I sing louder than 90% of the students in the chants and I scream my head off during big plays and corners. Don't push away students like me who support their school through thick and thin just because you want to be a classless idiot at the games. Just a few of my thoughts. Go Zips!

I think I heard Frenchy say that Porter was the fastest to 100, and that only Sigi Schmid had also done it in only his seventh year.Pretty sure that is correct. Fastest to 100 is pretty impressive! A couple thoughts.1)Really loved the way the Zips dominated the game. Hartwick packed it in and the Zips kept pushing till they broke through. Would love to see some possession stats. Was probably close to 70-30.2) Schmitt is in form right now! Probably my favorite player this team. His non-stop hustle is hard not to like. 3)I was interested to see if they would play the ball more wide this game. Seemed like Yedlin got a lot more touches tonight than last game, but not so much for Stevenson.4) Meves scares me sometimes... haha That ball that got through his hands at the end of the first half was really scary!5) Quinn played some great balls. Of course the assist to Schmitt and then he had another ball to Holmes from the center line that Holmes probably should have scored on.6) Loved the new formation. Holmes seems like more of a mid imo anyways.

Don't think this has been mentioned in this thread and I just remembered it. Did anyone else in the grand stands see Bluem there? Wonder if they have an upcoming match against PSU and he was scouting for it.
