I'm sure you're pretty frustrated, yet trying no to say anything about it. Last night I had tickets for the grandstands which was a great change of view. Yedlin was constantly making great runs yet no one was passing to him. He also tried to cut inside once and he looked like he was going to get a great look at goal and then Mattocks took the ball from him as he was moving away from goal! The resulting shot was pretty poor. Really frustrating at times!

I didn't see the stomp, but have to give the ref credit for going over and talking to the linesman before making the decision.
-
Couple quick thoughts: 1) Zips played the ball through the middle the whole night. Once they got towards the box the ball went to the center of the box. Yedlin and Stevenson hardly saw the ball. Yedlin especially kept trying to make runs, but wasn't getting any passes. Wonder if that was intentional due to the size of #4 for PSU. Maybe they didn't think they'd have much luck connecting with crosses? Seemed ant-Porter soccer to me though. 2) Schmitt played great last night! He had some incredible moves and hustled all over the place. Love the way he plays! Wouldn't mind seeing a Schmitt, Mattocks and Holmes front line. 3) Barson almost scored a SC Top Ten goal. That bike would have been sick! Keeper wasn't quite far enough off his line though. Also, in the Rowdies' celebration afterwards, Barson's eye looked pretty nasty. Hope he is OK from that high kick!

Mattocks literally took the ball from Yedlin in the box. Yedlin was moving to gal and Mattocks away from goal. Come on man! Psu down to 10 men.

+1 :D Still one of the most ridiculous, classless things I've ever heard of. Love that Nano ran over to the student section after the game winner, ripped off his shirt and taunted the crowd. Typically not in favor of that type of stuff, but they totally deserved it.

Have to think it may have a bit to do with Schmitt's outstanding play right now. He's been pretty impressive lately. Holmes played a perfect through ball to Mattocks and as a reward they pulled him. A bit of a head scratcher there.

UCSB is down 2-0 late in the game right now against UC Irvine. -
Have you ever seen Tim Howard the USMNT keeper? He screams at his defenders constantly. That's just part of being a take charge keeper. Absolutely no problem with that. I was watching the Everton match today, which is where Howard plays his club football and he was doing the same thing.

Looks like Holmes got the start over Schmitt.

It's unfair to say he only had one SOG and he didn't make the save, so therefore he is a lousy keeper. I don't recall the first two goals he gave up, but I know that the goal he gave up against OSU was a well placed shot and there wasn't much he could do. It was more the defenders' fault than Meves's. Meves did very well on making quick decisions on crosses into the box and therefore actually stopped SOG from happening.

Don't think that's it. Speas and Tulloch have both played from the start of the year after transferring. I though I heard it may be something about his playing time in England and whatever it was wasn't a violation in NAIA, but is in the NCAA so when he came to akron he was suspended. Something like that, just don't quote me.

So that excuses getting down in the gutter with them? A great tactic of inferior teams is to try to get their superior opponents to lose their composure and play out of character. They cause us to lose our composure and drag us down to their level, they win. We maintain our composure and stay above their level, we win. Never let the enemy dictate your tactics. +1 That's exactly what we always complain about the Big Ten and Big West teams attempting to do to our team with their physical style. Let's not stoop to that level as fans. You can support your team without losing your class. I think the one thing the ROWDIES are great at, is whenever the other team scores a goal hardly a minute goes by before a "Let's go Zips!" chant starts to let our boys know we are still behind them. That's real fandom, not exchanging F-bombs with the other side.

Just read this over on bigsoccer.com. It sounds like we aren't unusual in this regards.

Funny you say that. That basically describes me. I'm not someone who uses profanity due to my Faith. The fact is that there are a few chants I don't participate in. Especially the "Put the ball into the net and we'll go F'ing mental one." I think this one goes way over the line and might end up stopping people from bringing their family to the games. The ROWDIES said it was going to be "freaking mental", but you had to know that it wasn't going to stay that way... That said, I don't have a voice this morning because I was plenty loud on 90% of the chants and made my voice heard anytime the Zips were pushing for a scoring opportunity.
-
I think part of the issue lies with us diehards. No one is stopping us from all standing close together and being extra loud. However, we all go to the march and as a result usually get there early enough to get front row spots which spreads us all out. I do this as well. The view is way better up there. If we truly want to make an impact we should all stand directly behind the goal. If we could unify our voices, I bet that the chants would spread more effectively that way. Even to the students who don't know the chants. That's the great thing, we can stand together without being alienated from the other students like at the JAR. Just a thought...
-
You nailed it. It's almost like we need a section on the hill for the "Super" ROWDIES. It's really hard to get into a chant if no one else around you is joining in. As for me, my throat is sore, so I did my part...

Buck John Fluem!!! You know, I was born and raised a buckey fan. Once I came to Akron that fell to the way side to make room for MY Alma Mater. Recently I was thinking about getting back into following the bucks casually as a secondary school to team to my Akron Zips, then this was posted and it slapped sense back into me. Thank you Jacob. Funny you say that. I too grew up a OSU fan. Last year was my sophomore year and I was just starting to really embrace my school and not follow the Bucks that much anymore. That game and this play in particular really tipped me over the edge and made me go all in with the Zips. It's got it's highs (soccer & basketball) and lows (*cough* football team *cough*) but I wouldn't have it any other way. Go Zips!

This is the number one reason I want to destroy the Suckeyes tomorrow. OSU Red Card I'll never forget looking over from the Rowdies section last year after this happened and seeing Warzycha getting a standing ovation as he exited the field. OSU and their fans have no class.
-
The Akron till I die one is actually in the Rowdies repertoire, we just don't use it that often.
-
I know that for the Tulsa match last year, the limit was 2000. I think they ended up around 1800. My guess is you'll be safe...

I have a feeling this is how a Premier League Darby feels. Absolutely cannot wait for this game! Is it too much to ask for another beat down similar to the one we laid on Michigan last year?
-
Mattock was named Top Drawer Soccer's player of the week. Hopefully he can keep this up on Wednesday vs. OSU!

Can we save this topic for after the season? I'm just going to enjoy the rest of this season for now.
