  1. Here's an article about this issue from last year from the perspective of Ball State and Can't. Link
  2. Let me get this straight...you say the Akron Zips outdraw the Miami Hurricanes in attendance? In football? American football, right? Even though they have had some well publicized attendance issues, they outdraw Akron by a large margin.
  3. I am not sure who you are referencing, but I think the only "U" we are going to easily outdraw is EMU.
  4. First off, gotta give out the food kudos for this week. JohnnyZip had another great treat this week with his portobello mushroom ribeye cheesesteak. It really was out of this world. Really. Good. Thumbs up to ZipsWin!'s daughter for making Edmund Fitzgerald chocolate cupcakes. Even had to bring one home for my wife. The beer: 1. Thomas Creek Up the Creek Extreme IPA 2. Sweetgrass APA 3. Barley Island Dirty Helen Tavern Style Brown Ale 4. Terrapin Rye Pale Ale 5. Schlafly Dry Hopped APA 6. Schlafly Oatmeal Stout 7. Schlafly Helles Summer 8. Schlafly Pale Ale 9. Schlafly Kolsch 10. Stone Ruination Best beer of the day: (Easily) The Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard MDZip gave me. I have tried the regular A.B. in the past, but the Oaked Version is REALLY good. Also, a tip of the hat to GoZips19 for pouring me a glass of Great Lakes Oktoberfest out of that growler he picked up on the way down. Thank you!
  5. Huge difference between the walk at UCF vs. Miami. Quite a few people turned out and the band was there. This event will hopefully keep growing.
  6. Maybe they were listening to the Miami Redhawks Radio Network.
  7. Thanks for the reality check. I am disappointed the Zips didn't find a way to win, but I can't get down on them. I guess I am a little puzzled what some people are expecting in this team. Some of the negative comments are laughable.
  8. 45-28 Zips.
  9. Dated today, but previewing last week's game.
  10. Thank you for posting this. JZ84 and I walked over for the Roo Walk before the UCF game and there wasn't much of a crowd. I did not make it over at the Morgan State game, but all of us who are on campus at that time should really try to make it this week to show the team our support.
  11. Tennessee beers: 1. Woodruff Brewing White Mule Pale Ale 2. Woodruff IPA 3. Woodruff New World Porter 4. Woodruff Downtown Nut Brown Ale 5. Woodruff State Street Stout 6. Woodruff Alt 7. 12. After the game an older Southern Gentleman told us in his slow & deliberate drawl, "I don't know how many games y'all will win in your conference, but I don't think y'all will have to sit through too many boring football games". Another younger fan stated that if the talent levels had been switched, Akron's coaching & desire would have made the Zips winners by 100 points. We received a lot of good feedback from an unhappy fanbase. They seemed to be very accurate & honest in their assessment of the Vols. I hope they turn out to be as astute in their assessment of the Zips.
  13. Preach it, NZF!
  14. Everything will shake out and we will see who has what now in conference play. The jury is out. Neither I nor anyone else knows with any accuracy how every MAC team will fare from here on out. Everybody has an opinion, though. That's fine. Even though it hasn't showed up in the win column yet, it is my opinion that the Zips are the most improved team in the country. At the end of last year Akron had a Sagarin rating of 198. I will wager no team will gain more positions in this particular poll than Akron, year over year. I will put my money where my mouth is. This is the last time I ever want to compare where we were with where we are. Comparing Ianello and Bowden is like comparing a three legged mule to Secretariat. I am going to try my best not to do any more comparisons. I don't know how many wins our great improvement will translate to. Nobody does. That's why they are going to play the games. Personally, I like our chances. Before the game Saturday, I said to a parent of a player that I was really looking forward to league play because i thought we would win some games in the MAC. He looked me dead in the eye and said "I think we can win 'em all". The staff believes. The players believe. The parents believe. When is the fanbase going to catch up? GO ZIPS! SMASH MIAMI!
  15. Getting ready to go into the game soon. We got "adopted" by some Tennessee tailgaters. They fed us, entertained us, & gave us tickets to sit with them. Amazing hospitality. Hope they aren't too mad at us when the Zips win!
  16. I count two. Who are you wishing wasn't in the league?
  17. Too bad the Zips don't play Buffalo this year. I could see the Zips repaying those 86 points on them and Can't. Anyone but me think Can't's kicker was going a little overboard with the pre-kickoff routine? It was how I would imagine Gaylord Perry would do the sign of the cross. Also tired quickly of hearing the whole "Thunder & Lightning" thing. After the Zips humble them this year, they will have to change that duo's name to "Fart in a Windstorm". I can't think of anything else negative to say about Can't right now, but the season is still young.
  18. When I was a kid I watched a lot of NFL football with my uncle. Sometimes one of the games on TV was between two hapless squads, say New Orleans vs. Tampa Bay. My uncle would refer to that game as "This Week's Dumbbell Derby" in his NFL Films voice. Well, last night's game was the mother of all dumbbell derbies. What is frightening to consider is that these two teams outscored Akron by a count of 86-13.
  19. The only entertaining part of this contest was when Fisher came into the game. He looks like Ice-T circa 1989.
  20. +1 Damn near unwatchable.
  21. Chase Hoobler is a redshirt sophomore now. Too bad he didn't come here, but Ianello probably would have run him off anyhow. I can't for the life of me understand why any Ohio kid would want to go play for those perennial losers. http://www.iuhoosiers.com/sports/m-footbl/...er_chase00.html
  22. Can't is playing at Buffalo tonight. Both teams beat their FCS opponent and lost to their SEC foe. Can't got thrashed by Kentucky who turned around and lost in OT to WKU. We certainly fared better against Morgan State than Buff, so it will be interesting to see how they stack up against Can't. If Buff should prevail somewhere around 52-34, I am predicting somewhere around a 66-6 win for the Zips at Dick Stadium. Go Canada!
  23. Thank you for the info, mes102. I feel a lot more confident now. The fact that they played Mapleton threw a scare into me, I guess.
