  1. Injury report. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/vols-lose-lea...802--ncaaf.html
  2. Thank you! I don't know how you could have watched the show tonight and not feel good about the progrum.
  3. I try to be a reasonable person and remain civil most of the time, but if an usher told me to stop stomping on 3rd down, there would probably be an uncomfortable exchange.
  4. Hustle Belt Article Short, but good read.
  5. Some thoughts: 1. Offense overall looked great, especially in the sense of being prepared with the game plan, knowing what to do and when. 2. I was surprised how often they lined up in the pistol with JC7. Quite often. 3. Conor Hundley runs hard. Continue to be impressed with this true freshman. 4. As I said in another thread, the WR corps look to be interchangeable and productive. Some pretty nice depth here, but Marquelo Suel continues to stand out to me. 5. Pughsley is a beast. 6. I didn't realize that when Horner enters the game, JD Griggs slides inside. 7. Defensive backs are playing at a wholly different level than last year. They have definitely come a long way. 8. Although the defense is thin, they seem to like to hit. Especially Justin March when be gets the chance. 9. Jamel Turner played a little bit on kickoff special teams, but mostly sat by himself on the bench. Still looking forward to seeing him participating more. 10. It looks like Zach Paul is capable of kicking the ball into the end zone. That is what he should try to do everytime. I don't think they ever stopped a return inside the 25. Looking forward to see how they look against the Vols. It was 56-14 versus UCF. Do they narrow that gap in Knoxville?
  6. First, I have to give out the culinary awards for game 2... Kudos to the fine folks that fed me the biggest shrimp I have ever seen. Delicious. They also served up a mean cream cheese iced pumpkin bar! Thank you! (Not sure if they are on the board or not. Forgot to ask. ) JohnnyZip's Peach Habenero Bow-B-Q shredded chicken was on time as well. The beer: 1. Thomas Creek Class 5 IPA 2. Thomas Creek Pump House Porter 3. Samuel Adams Boston Lager 4. RJ Rockers Bell Ringer 5. RJ Rockers Bald Eagle Brown 6. 3 Floyds Gorch Fock Helped 7. 3 Floyds Blackheart IPA 8. 3 Floyds Dreadnaught IPA 9. Duck-Rabbit Milk Stout 10. Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout 11. Newcastle Werewolf 12. Rogue Voodoo Doughnut 13. Terrapin Hopzilla IPA 14. Terrapin Hop Karma Brown IPA 15. Terrapin Hopsecutioner IPA 16. Terrapin Easy Rider Session Ale Just another reminder to anyone who is a tailgater, you can post pics on the Akron facebook page. It would be awesome if some good picture takers would participate. I am not much of a photographer. AkronZipsTailgaters
  7. Akron is not the only one with attendance problems. I don't know what the answer is. There is no place I would rather be than a college football game, so I struggle to understand why there aren't more people who feel the same way.
  8. Pratt looked good, no doubt about it. Quite a few Zips receivers looked good yesterday. WR seems to be the position that has the most depth and quality. It is a thing of beauty to watch how that group substitutes flawlessly during the game. They are becoming a well oiled machine.
  9. Totally agree. Any complaints beyond those is nit picking, but I would add one more...don't throw the fade to the corner of the end zone if its not there. Great day. Everyone sitting in my section was smiling, laughing, having fun, high giving, thoroughly enjoying themselves. I wish all the people who I dragged to Akron the last couple of years to watch bad football could have been there to share in a wonderful day.
  10. Carrollton is 3-0 on the season thus far. I have a friend whose son plays on the Mapleton team they beat in week one who told me "their center was a beast". Hopefully Stephen pans out for the Zips. I'm thinking it will be a huge adjustment for him to play against similarly talented players. I can't speak for any of the other teams Carrollton has faced this year, but Mapleton, although 2-1 on the year having beat Buckeye Central and Rittman only has 18 kids on their roster. Keeping my fingers crossed!
  11. Coach Bowden continues to say all the right things. As a coach, there are no moral victories. As a player, there are no moral victories. Winning is paramount and they can never be satisfied. Even in victory, the team must strive to become better and correct errors. It is the fan base that attaches the "moral victory" tag to a great effort that comes up short. It is fans like me that get way too excited about just being competitive that allows this to happen. Guilty as charged.
  12. Were they: 1. Hop Back Amber 2. Pale Ale 3. Dreamweaver Wheat 4. Sunshine Pils or Dead Reckoning Porter (depending on Summer or Fall assortment) Just trying to help. They must have been going down smooth if you don't remember what they were!
  13. Here is the list of beers we sampled at a small little Zips party where we huddled around the computer listening to Frenchy and watching Yahoo game tracker: 1. Tyranena Scurvy IPA 2. Tyranena Stone Tepee Pale Ale 3. Dark Horse Boffo Brown Ale 4. Dark Horse Sapient Trip Ale 5. Dark Horse Raspberry Ale 6. Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA 7. Dark Horse Amber Ale 8. Dark Horse Black Ale Hope these count. If not, see you on Saturday to try again.
  14. Way to go Dalton Williams! I think I remember sitting in the Tilted Kilt having a discussion with friends about who would be the "breakout player of the year"... ZipsWin! is looking like a genius right now.
  15. +1. Time will tell how good FIU really is. I am really excited about the Zips being competitive with anybody on the road, though. They have certainly come a long way since they were thrashed by a bad Buffalo team 51-10 last year. Some of the numbers are encouraging. 3 sacks. 7 tackles for loss. 5 TD passes. The effort itself is encouraging. But it is so disappointing to let a winnable game slip away. It makes the shortcomings glare. No fumbles this week, but we have to eliminate the silly penalties and work on the kicking game/coverage. Definitely a work in progress, but it is going in the right direction and the wins are coming. Just stings to lose a close one. How nice to be in a pitched battle, though, instead of being embarrassed.
  16. I don't recall a whole lot of people predicting a win, but some of the naysayers bitching because the Zips lost. Makes sense.
  17. Right on. Lack of depth is a problem for this team, and it sounds like they got gassed in the second half.
  18. I said that back in December. I just want to see improvement and maximum effort. This week the penalties were worrisome. But we just lost in overtime to a team that was a 3 touchdown favorite. Some of the negativity needs to stop. (And to be truthful, 1 win would not satisfy me)
  19. Just stop doing it then.
  20. yes.
  21. Disagree.
  22. What a bummer. Wish I could have seen it, but from the radio call it sounded like the boys left it all on the field. Things are getting better. I have faith.
  23. I just scared my niece and nephews when I came out of my chair with a choice outburst! Sorry, kids!
  24. Here we go.
  25. For the love of Christ, what is going on with the false starts?
