  1. Which is more important to an Ianello hater? Rob's failure, so they can be right? -or- The Zips winning?

    Preview

That preview was an attempt at being funny from a source that probably care less about the MAC whatsoever. This one comes from MAC "specialists". Read this gem. http://www.vandelaysports.com/football/mac...2011/akron.htmlThat's pretty ugly.I couldnt care less about these predictions. These guys know nothing about the MAC or the Zips. The talent level of the freshman and sophomores is vastly improved over what we have seen in quite a few years. I just can't see us being a 1-11 team with Chisolm, Williams, , etc... being introduced to the offense.Vandelay is supposedly a MAC expert service. You gave a better preview of the Zips in a couple of sentences. A service like Vandelay putting out garbage like this is a joke. First of all, they should pick up a roster. "Gray" Pride hasn't been here for months and Richard Hall is a more recent disappearance. Secondly, at least know who performed well in the spring. No mention of Chisholm. I can accept someone from Rivals making a smart-ass prediction for entertainment's sake. He wasn't trying to peddle real analysis. This joker from Vandelay was.

  4. My previous post is not meant to simply respond to Trimmy's statement about recruiting. I like Trimmy10 and I like reading his posts. I am frustrated. I am frustrated with the football team that 25 years into the transition from I-AA is still experiencing growing pains. South Florida started from SCRATCH in 1997. That is a painful comparison. I am as pissed off as anybody about our situation. I am tired of the constant process of rebuilding. I realize that Rob Ianello's performance so far is lackluster. Makes a poor performance worse when you have no rapport with the fan base, either. Rob hasn't done much to endear himself to the fan through his personality which digs his hole a little deeper as well. But one thing I do hope he realizes is that it is imperative that the Zips must beat Can't. A mediocre or even bad Zips team that beats Can't is night and day different from one that doesn't. There is absolutely no excuse to lose to them. There is no excuse for last year's loss. To me, the 0-1 record against a shitty Can't team is more upsetting than the 1-11 overall. Losing to them at home this year is not going to cut it. Rob better realize how much a victory in that game will gain him and how much a loss will damn him. Beating them should be a given.
  5. Ianello was brought in as a recruiter. The one thing he had on his resume. He is constantly being criticized for the job he's done so far in this area, but I gotta tell ya, recruiting does not occur in a vacuum folks. He has been top half in the MAC recruiting kids into a program that had, WITHOUT QUESTION, badly deteriorated under JD, then was BLOWN UP by RI. Top half recruiting has got to be looked at as a small victory. How deluded are you as a fan if you think that "master recruiter" Rob Ianello is going to step in at Akron and immediately start recruiting the class of the MAC straight out of the gate? Welcome to the real world. What does RI have to sell other than facilities and the chance to start right away? And please, don't start listing, AGAIN, all of his mistakes, shortcomings, and character flaws. We are all painfully aware of them. I am no Rob Ianello apologist, but ripping him for recruiting at this point is premature to say the least.
  6. I have no idea what the final score of this game will be but I am confident in predicting Can't State will still suck.
  7. I'll be damned if I'm drinking anything named after Phyllis Schlafly! Although that DOES explain a thing or two. Why you no like me, Z.I.P.? Because my Pale Ale and my politics are from the same era?
  8. I really enjoy Burning River as well, probably my favorite Great Lakes. This Schlafly is an English Pale Ale, a little less hoppy more balanced. If you also like ESB's, you would probably like this one, Dave.
  9. I am in St. Louis attending a seminar. Since I know some of you enjoy craft beer, I would suggest trying Schlafy Pale Ale, brewed here in STL. Not sure how large the distribution is but if you're out this way... Very tasty after a long day in the classroom. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/583/1629 Anybody tried this or any of their other beers?
  10. Nice caveat, GP1.
  11. I've been to Peabody's plenty, It's probably not what your looking for.Why would you say that?
  12. I would love to have a 34 jersey to wear. I have a real Zips jersey that I can't wear. It is an offensive line jersey and it is skin tight and doesn't really have sleeves. A fit young person could get away with wearing it, but a fat 42 year old looks absolutely ridiculous. It looks like I am wearing a sleeveless sausage casing with puffy shoulders. Not pretty.
  13. One more post from me, then I will shut my pie hole and listen for a minute. Other than watching the Zips, I am most interested in what happens in the rest of the MAC.Will Miami remain strong and will they have a QB controversy? Will Temple finally get to the MACCG? I really hope not. Will Can't continue to suck under the new staff? I really hope so.NIU and Toledo look to be the class of the West, with Western looking to get in there too. Should be fun to watch. Hopefully we will see some MAC wins over AQ competition. Do you think Toledo has a shot against OSU if they can keep from pissing down their leg? I guess we'll have a better idea after we watch the Zips.Looking forward to the season. Looking forward to hopefully meeting some of you at the home games as well.Go Zips go!
  14. Notre Dame always seems to get their fair share of pre-season hype no matter what the case but it has been cranked up a notch since Kelly got there. I have seen them ranked as high as #5 by the rags, which to me is waaaaaaaaaay optimistic. Usually pre-season #5's didn't lose to Navy and Tulsa the previous year. Just sayin'.Each year I look forward to watching SEC football. Although the league is really skewed to strength in the west, still it's great competition. Since I have no rooting interests in any of the other AQ conferences, my unbiased opinion is that the SEC is FAR superior to the next best conference. I have no idea why the SEC doesn't push for playoffs because at their strength, we could see 2 SEC teams in the championship game. I enjoy watching the top teams play defense. SEC seems to have d-linemen that can really get it. Can anyone emerge to run the table again this year? Can Boise run the table or will they stumble to an underdog like last year? I expect them to school Georgia, but TCU will be a real test. Can't wait to watch Kellen Moore's senior season.
  15. JZ84, you are right on the money about Utah. If they can come in and challenge for a PAC-12 South title right out of the box, it will speak volumes for non-AQs. I am definitely rooting for the Utes this year and will do the same for TCU next year. (If the Horned Frogs stay as strong as they have been, I can foresee them running roughshod through the BE.)Nebraska in the Big Ten is going to be monumentally historic. Sure to be lots of excitement when the Huskers come to town and also when their new conference mates visit Lincoln.JZ, although Ollie kinda botched the whole coach in waiting thing, your brother has to be excited for that offense to take the field.
  16. I'll put my next two curiosities together since they have a September 17th showdown. Oklahoma has been at the very top of quite a few preseason polls and Florida State certainly appears to be trending upward as a legitimate ACC frontrunner. This game is the only non-conference challenge for OU, FSU also plays Florida in a non-conference tilt. Lots riding on this game. I am not "sold" on either one of these teams, but the winner of this game definitely sets themselves up well to enter league play with a lot of confidence. Really looking forward to following these two teams.
  17. My first curiosity is the West Virginia Mountaineers. I was interested before the whole Dana Holgorsen/Bill Stewart soap opera, but even more so now. I want to see the offense in real game situation. They ran up and down the field in the spring game. If DH gets the offense at WVU firing on all cylinders like he had em going at Oklahoma State, look out. I can't see any defense in the Big East that can stop them. Game number four looms large, LSU at home. Should be very entertaining to follow the 'eers this year.
  18. If you are like me and college football is your main sports passion, the countdown is on. Less than 50 days until the season kickoff. While I am first and foremost a Zips fan, I love CFB in general. I will watch NM/NMSt on a Thursday night, for crying out loud. As a daily listener to Bill King, I agree with him that CFB is God's sport (hallelujah). It seems like it takes forever to start and is over far too quickly. I know there are other ZN.Oers that feel like I do, so...what storylines intrigue you for the upcoming season other than the Zips?
  19. You must absolutely love racer's posts.
  20. Well, as lit up as their half-dozen fans can light up a board, I guess.
  21. Man would that help out our secondary! You're right. A d-line that can control the line of scrimmage makes Bryan Wagner even better as well. We need three and outs. Make 'em punt the ball to Tyler Williams. Can ya tell I'm getting excited? Are you readyfor some foooootbaaaaaallll?Oh oh. Wasn't the dline supposed to be a team strength last year?To say that Sewell was a disappointment last year would be a huge understatement. Hopefully this year will be different. Dan Marcoux can make plays. I've seen him do it. So can Hazime. Those two need more consistency. Wilson and Griggs would certainly appear to have what it takes to succeed. Nico had a really good spring. If a couple more guys can get in the rotation and contribute, they could be good. Then again, I may just be overly optimistic.
  22. It has been about a week since the list came out and no chatter. Is it not as big a deal as I think? When you go down through the list there are some awfully good players that Brian is included with. I think it is a fantastic honor. For all those who are taking the wait and see approach before deciding to attend this year, may I suggest: It is definitely worth the cost of admission, travel, time, food and drink to come to home games. If for nothing else, just to watch #34 play. Take a nap while the offense is on the field if you feel you must, but Brian Wagner is a player who doesn't come along that often. He doesn't take plays off. He is the quintessential hustler. He is our shining star and it is a great pleasure to watch him. Hopefully, the team surrounding him will be better this year because the kid deserves to be a winner.
  23. You can't be serious.http://osu.edu/O-H-I-O/?item=16745
  24. Stay classy!http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6765621/...ords-dull-point
  25. Fer crying out loud. Stop taking the whole green and growing thing so literal. He's talking about continuous improvement.Growth.Progression.Advancement.Whatever you want to call getting better. Is it that hard to understand? The soccer Zips are defending NCAA champs. They need still need to be green and growing. No matter how good it gets, you never "get there". You never want to get to ripe.Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeez.Back in h.s. football, our coach told us EVERY DAY, "If you're not getting better you're getting worse, cause everybody else we are going to play is getting better."I realize the hatred for RI runs deep, but come on.
