There are only 5 teams that have won 20+ games each of the last 10 years, Gonzaga, tOSU, Kansas, Duke, and Akron. That in it's self is impressive.... what is even more impressive is the fact that (prior to this week) together they have accounted for 65 NCAA tournament wins, 5 Final Fours, and 2 National Championships. Pretty exclusive company!

If budget issues keep the Zips from getting new uni's every year there are big troubles in the rubber city.

Even if the Zips are not as good as we hoped going in (avg & injuries), they can now start to believe in themselves and make a run...winning the MAC this yr would be an accomplishment....lets hope they put it together

In thinking about the attendance at last night's games, that works out to 603 fans per school...any chance we can figure out everyone there?.. I know Dr Z was there (above), the Mayor, and probably Kwan's mom and DIG....any ideas on the other 599?

If you grew up in Akron in the 50's "Buchtel" might have some positives associated with it.... I can only think of a few other names that would be worse, and they would get me banned on here.

I didn't see or hear the game.... apparently neither did the Beacon. A"staff report", written via a box score. Not one quote or play description, no Forsythe mention etc. So what does gozips.com offer? Not much. Why don't fans get the post game press conference from each game on the website--- either rewritten or the entire video?... This would seem pretty standard stuff for an athletic Dept... Am I just looking in the wrong place on the site?

I think no one gets paid $5 unless there are 800 at a game?... As for the student fees to athletic dept....I am fairly certain that Akron is the something like the 3rd most subsidized athletic dept in D1.... when I have a chance, I'll find the source

Let's temper our excitement a bit... OU has lost 6 in a row, and 6 of their 9 wins are against Marietta College, Appalachian St, Ark Pine Bluff, Alcorn St, Ball St and of course Akron.... I am glad that Kretzer and Reggie showed something

While student attendance is nice-- at this point it does very little little to help an athletic dept swimming in debt. A huge problem is the paying base of fans remains small and somewhat unchanged over the years. The $5 student attend a game promotion... and the free tuition etc...."Good news we had 801 students... bad news it cost us $4005 more than the game last week". -- I am being a little sarcastic, but I see Zip athletics as being attractive to a very small group of fans in the area.

I wonder how the team's APR will look down the line.... The Zips seem to have some retention issues lately

it will be interesting to see the results of the Can't State study.... I think as the big schools move towards a separation from the NCAA, you may see the Akrons and Kents of the world deemphasize the level of commitment ($) towards sports. The MAC and many other conferences spend way too much (IMO), for what they generate or cost. The value of MAC sports is slightly above HS, yet schools spend a ton. ---I said value, not level of play--

I believe Iowa State students have to purchase a sports pass... while I know that all UA students technically purchase tickets, it is an opt in for Iowa State students.

I don't consider getting a shot off in 10 seconds rushing things
