I do wonder how much of the "progress" was a result of Guthrie and how much was a result of donors. Without guys like Kaulig and Wentz, where would our programs be? Who was the driving force behind the basketball practice facility? Who is making sure Groce gets paid? It makes complete sense that Guthrie would leave. He and Miller were attached at the hip. Miller brought him over from Green Bay. Once Miller stepped aside, this was just a matter of time. I do give him credit for finally ditching Adidas for Nike. At least we have that...

I'd stick with Joe. Unless there's a "big hire" like Jim Tressel out of retirement or Luke Getsy. Someone who would be loyal-ish to Akron. Still even with those options, you're looking at a 71 year old and someone who has never been a HC before.

It's perfectly okay to evolve and expand the brand. Secondary logos, fonts, wordmark, uniforms. But UA needs to embrace the current A logo. The best, most iconic college logos are simple and recognizable. OSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, etc. The new A is unique enough and is already recognized as "Akron." It needs to stay for the foreseeable future.

UA's branding was done by Joe Bosack Co. The best in the business when it comes to athletics branding. I didn't like the new A logo at first, but it's really grown on me. I love it now. Keep it around and potentially just add a Zippy secondary mark.

Hopefully it goes better than when Mark Few's son got in for Gonzaga.

Game 1- Arkansas State: Nov 4th @ 8pm EST

Can't complain after this team's first game together. Lots of positives, especially Sharron Young. He probably had the best debut of any Zips true freshman I've ever seen. I hope he is the star we've been waiting for. -

Young is looking really, really good. Is it wrong that during his first game as a Zip I'm already worried about him bailing for a bigger school? -

As @ClevelandZip said up above, it really looks like a nicer version of the JAR. Practically the same layout with more seating behind the hoops. Between all the big companies in the Akron/NE Ohio area, someone could give us a nice chunk of change for the naming rights. -

Guess they haven't seen the arena our team plays in 😂 -

Week 9 vs Buffalo - 12pm EST (TV - CBSSN)

Even after the interception, the Zips were driving with no problems and could have still gone up 14-0. Yet here we are down 14-7. -

3 horrible turnovers in the first quarter? Is this really happening? -
It's so surreal seeing a Zips basketball player in the NBA. There's been legitimate hype around him from Pacers fans since the draft. Set my YouTube TV to record all their games this season. I hope he sees legitimate minutes ASAP.
-
So for the first time ever I get to watch the Zips and Browns both lose on the same day. 😂
-
I will never forgive the Cavs for not drafting Enrique. He literally played in their backyard and they let Indiana take him. Really strong performance in the preseason so far. Especially compared to Bronny James who's scored like 2 points in 3 games 😂.

Honestly I think they are a huge downgrade and desperately need some navy trim. They look like those cheap Chinese knockoffs.

Week #6 - BGSU Falcons @ Akron Zips - 3:30 pm Kick-off

The Zips have no business winning this game. But two missed holding calls in the endzone on consecutive plays is inexcusable. -

This will go from a 10-7 lead to a blowout. -

Nightmare ending to this half. -
Yeah I totally agree. The conferences make too much money and won't throw it all away. Competitiveness in college football has never been their goal. It's always about money. On top of that, the elite schools would want no part in strengthening their schedules. They enjoy playing 2-3 meaningful games all year because it gives them a better shot at the CFP. If they wanted tougher schedules they would play better teams to start the season.
-
I've always thought the easiest solution would be to create a football pyramid, similar to European soccer. 3 tiers of teams with the possibility of promotion/relegation. Each team is ranked based on the previous season and they have the chance to move up/down halfway though the season. Teams play 12 games. First 6 include 4 evenly ranked teams and 2 games against teams in the tier above or below them. Then the next 6 are against teams in the same tier. This would prevent teams like Ohio State from scheduling nothing but cupcakes for the first 4 weeks, make sure we get great matchups all season long and give fans a lot more variety. I'd love to see Akron play more teams in football outside of the same old directional MAC schools.
-
Let's just merge with them and create a super-conference. Is 26 teams too much? 😂
-
I'm surprised nothing has been said about this weeks later. Just one tweet from a random account saying he will be "assistant to the AD."
-
A slightly below average offense and the Zips win today. Unfortunately we have probably the worst offense in college football.
-
There needs to be indisputable evidence too. No views we saw showed an obvious forward pass. So unless the refs had a different angle, I'm not sure where that call came from.
