Better recruits, luck, coaching, I don't know honestly. But they have all made it further than Akron and even after coaching turnover they consistency win. Maybe after the disaster last season I don't have much optimism for Zips basketball. I just don't feel good about the future.

I think the KD era showed us the ceiling for Zips basketball. Just making the tournament is probably the best thing we'll ever see, and I don't think we would have made it any further had he stayed. KD could always make it to the big game, win a few, but that's about it. The Zips never really seemed to live up to the potential we saw in them. Maybe we just overrated them? I don't know. Can't think that a new arena would have made any difference. As much as I would like Akron to become Gonzaga, Butler, VCU or Loyola, I just don't see it ever happening.

Can't blame a guy for wanting to be in Orlando, instead of Akron. Just unfortunate that anytime we get someone good at UA they move on to greener pastures.

In 2015 the NCAA put strict guidelines on which types of facemasks are allowed to be worn. A lot of schools pay around with fun designs, but they are only allowed for show.

I'm still wishing we'd see Akron knock off a ranked team. being so close with Michigan shows that it's possible. Do that and get us to bowl games consistently. I'm sure we'd all like to see the Zips end up like Toledo, NIU, WMU, etc. But I think we're just too far off for that.

With the way this game is going, wouldn't be surprised if they overturn the call. Imagine challenging a play like that in a blowout.

Think I've counted 2 facemask calls on Kato that have been missed too. One even included the defender shoving his helmet into the ground after the play.

Exactly what I was thinking. Almost like everyone knows FAU is going to win so the Zips don't even deserve to be there. Seems like they even waited to throw the targeting flag.

Don't think anything would make me happier than seeing the MAC send two teams to the tournament, right after KD bailed. Even if neither of those teams were the Zips. Just to stick it to him.

I can't help but realize how different this year has felt. Aside from the Marshall game, the Zips have really been competitive and won the game we are supposed to. Seemed like these past few games are the ones KDs teams found a way to give away.

What a 1-2 punch Utomi and Ivey have become. Really fun to watch.

Really feels like every Zips opponent is shooting like 90%. Really lacking hustle on the Akron team. Needed to step it up.

Yes, but the Zips should be in this game. But keep shooting themselves in the foot. Benching Nelson, dumb penalties, bad play calls, getting turnovers and doing nothing.

Pretty terrible start so far for the Zips. Falling down 14-0 might be too much already.

I actually really like the gray uniforms. Probably because they actually have some gold on them. Now if only there was some gold on the navy and whites...maybe next year.
