Baseball and women's lacrosse? Great news! Maybe I'm just being greedy, but men's lacrosse and hockey would be awesome.

I'm really happy for Hunt. After that fumble on his first ever carry, I thought the game was over. It's great to see MAC guys becoming stars in the NFL. Unless of course they are from Kent or end up on the Steelers.

The new truck is looking good! I'm sure there will be a lot of idiotic "I'm glad this is where my tuition money is going" and "Akron is in debt but can spend money on this" comments going around.

Wonder what will happen to the old video board? Can't think of anywhere else on campus they could use that. Guess they will probably sell or donate it?

He couldn't win the big games at Akron so he left for sh**ty A10 school. I hope they lose every single game.

That's probably it. I'm guessing that whenever UA needs a promotional shirt made for giveaways, they'll use them for that as well. They've done a few of the Indians giveaways in the past. Seems like a good deal for both sides. UA gets awesome shirts to sell, GV gets more exposure and more locations to sell apparel.

I'm a Beatles fan so I ordered one of the "Rubber Soul" Akron shirts. I wanted to buy that and the "Z", but they were sold out online too. Probably works out for the best, I like the new Z shirt better. https://gvartwork.com/collections/akron-collection

More GV Akron gear coming. Can't wait!

Blows my mind that Cleveland didn't even take a chance on one of these two. They have the worst WRs in the NFL and are right down the road. I guess there's a reason they are continually in the top 5 of the draft.

That's exactly it. Most arenas and stadiums use the naming rights as a way to bring in more money to use for a renovation budget. Not that it would make a huge difference, but every bit helps. UA got $10mil from InfoCision and $5mil from Summa. Not to mention club level sponsors. If we could get just a portion of that for naming the arena, it would make a huge difference. A lot of the newer college venues have corporate sponsors. They usually use the court naming as a way to honor important individuals. So we could still have James A Rhodes Court at FirstEnergy Arena or something. I just don't think that he had that big of a tie to UA to make it worth it.

I agree. I hate Kent State as much as anyone. But when something like that happens to a school, we should do everything we can to distance ourselves from it.
-
While there's tradition in the JAR nickname, I doubt many will be disappointed if they change the name. Deals for arena naming rights usually don't bother me if done well and kept around for a long time. Like the Miami Dolphins Hard Rock Stadium changing names 7 times or the Viviant Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City.

So it's been confirmed that the Zips will again wear a throwback helmet for homecoming and "full roo" on senior night. Hopefully they have some throwback jerseys to match the helmets this season? I do believe they are bringing back gold pants. Should be nice to have a lot of options this season.

It's not really about capacity, but rather adding more seats closer to the court and maybe encouraging more students to sit in that area. It would be nice to have two big blocks of seats behind the baskets. Most likely it would require some more extensive renovations and probably tearing out the track.

That's what I was thinking. The new scoreboard is made of 4 panels and 2 ribbon boards. After looking around, the size is similar to what Ball State installed in 2015, ours will just be a tad bigger and like others have said it will look much bigger because of the small arena. It would be nice if they could remove the outdated end line ribbons and add more seating, but I doubt there is enough room. Hopefully the additional upgrades are as impressive as the video board.
-
I noticed you can see them in the bottom right corner of the rendering. If you look closely you'll see a small curved video board that has a logo, Twitter bird and fear the roo at the bottom. I'm surprised they didn't want to update the severely outdated black and orange/yellow graphic boards behind the baskets. It's been an eyesore for a long time. Hopefully this means they have bigger and better plans for that area. Fingers crossed.
-
I'm sure it's just a placeholder for now. My guess is they are shopping around the naming rights and we'll see something before the new scoreboard goes up. I'm actually very impressed and excited for those upgrades. That scoreboard obviously isn't as big as the Q's but its way better than what most colleges have. I'm interested to see how the other ribbon boards will be used.

I think the chrome helmet fad jumped the shark. It was cool when Oregon did it first. It was okay when a handful of teams started using gold or chrome options. But when every team has worn a gold, chrome or super metallic helmet it's probably time to try something different. Personally I like the anodized satin gold helmet the Zips used last season. Probably my favorite helmet they've ever had.

Heck I'd be happy to have ONE of those. I always check ebay but haven't had much luck.

Duquesne hasn't had a basketball team since the 70's.

In no world is Tom Crean coaching the Akron Zips.
-
Must have gotten tired of using photos from this game: Really sad looking back on probably my favorite football game during my time at UA. For just a day we got to feel like the Zips were a big time program.

Robert Morris? Ahh the second best college basketball school in Pittsburgh. -
I'm sure the fact that Dayton hosts NCAA tournament helps too.
