  1. Stop arguing and look at this:
  2. The Q watch parties always draw big crowds. Even better, they raise money for charities. This is something I can support. If the Zips make it to a bowl or NCAA tournament game, this is the way to go. Maybe charge a few bucks for admission that can go to a charity and maybe UA gets to keep money from concessions and souvenirs? Fans will be donating to a good cause and supporting the Zips. I don't see people paying UA to just sit in the JAR and watch TV. There has to be more incentive.
  3. I'd say it looks better, but far from good. It's disappointing. With how awesome most of the campus has become, the JAR is an eyesore and one of the first buildings people see when getting off Rt 8. There's has to be something that can be done. Don't get me wrong, the new videoboard is great and will be a nice improvement on gameday. But isn't it still putting lipstick on a pig? Can't they take a few million and refresh the outside? Do something about the track? Make it look better than a high school gym built in the 80s.
  4. Here ya go...I took a screenshot of it: Hopefully they show some videos of it up and running. It really looks huge. Maybe it will make the JAR feel less like a high school...
  5. Here's a site that I use to look up stuff like that: The Helmet Project It's gives a pretty accurate history of every helmet worn by every football team ever. Looks like the yellow/blue color scheme was used from 1995-2001.
  6. I was thinking something like this would have worked well for this year: Then something like this for next season: I know it was a short lived color scheme in UA's history, but I like it for a one game special uniform.
  7. I really like the new "tradition" of wearing a throwback helmet for Homecoming. Wish they had full throwback uniforms, but I know money would be an issue there. Would be interesting to see a bright yellow - navy throwback someday. (just obviously not against kent)
  8. Every situation is different. But if a school has an unfair advantage, yes they should be punished.
  9. I've been thinking the same thing. The big guys never really get punished and sometimes even get better. It's unfortunate, especially since most small schools do things the right way. The biggest NCAA scandals of the past couple of decades? Penn State football, Ohio State football, UNC basketball, Miami football, Florida State football, USC football. All of those teams are still at the top. All had different infractions, but no penalties seemed to hurt them, except for maybe 1 or 2 losing seasons. I'm sure Louisville will get someone like Tom Crean and be just fine...
  10. From Instagram: Hopefully it doesn't take too long. Technically no games are scheduled for the JAR until the middle of October. Guess teams will have to find somewhere else to practice for a bit?
  11. This is embarrassing
  12. Bring back these shirts!
  13. Baseball and women's lacrosse? Great news! Maybe I'm just being greedy, but men's lacrosse and hockey would be awesome.
  14. I'm really happy for Hunt. After that fumble on his first ever carry, I thought the game was over. It's great to see MAC guys becoming stars in the NFL. Unless of course they are from Kent or end up on the Steelers.
  15. The new truck is looking good! I'm sure there will be a lot of idiotic "I'm glad this is where my tuition money is going" and "Akron is in debt but can spend money on this" comments going around.
  16. Wonder what will happen to the old video board? Can't think of anywhere else on campus they could use that. Guess they will probably sell or donate it?
  17. He couldn't win the big games at Akron so he left for sh**ty A10 school. I hope they lose every single game.
  18. That's probably it. I'm guessing that whenever UA needs a promotional shirt made for giveaways, they'll use them for that as well. They've done a few of the Indians giveaways in the past. Seems like a good deal for both sides. UA gets awesome shirts to sell, GV gets more exposure and more locations to sell apparel.
  19. I'm a Beatles fan so I ordered one of the "Rubber Soul" Akron shirts. I wanted to buy that and the "Z", but they were sold out online too. Probably works out for the best, I like the new Z shirt better. https://gvartwork.com/collections/akron-collection
  20. More GV Akron gear coming. Can't wait!
  21. Blows my mind that Cleveland didn't even take a chance on one of these two. They have the worst WRs in the NFL and are right down the road. I guess there's a reason they are continually in the top 5 of the draft.
  22. That's exactly it. Most arenas and stadiums use the naming rights as a way to bring in more money to use for a renovation budget. Not that it would make a huge difference, but every bit helps. UA got $10mil from InfoCision and $5mil from Summa. Not to mention club level sponsors. If we could get just a portion of that for naming the arena, it would make a huge difference. A lot of the newer college venues have corporate sponsors. They usually use the court naming as a way to honor important individuals. So we could still have James A Rhodes Court at FirstEnergy Arena or something. I just don't think that he had that big of a tie to UA to make it worth it.
  23. I agree. I hate Kent State as much as anyone. But when something like that happens to a school, we should do everything we can to distance ourselves from it.
  24. While there's tradition in the JAR nickname, I doubt many will be disappointed if they change the name. Deals for arena naming rights usually don't bother me if done well and kept around for a long time. Like the Miami Dolphins Hard Rock Stadium changing names 7 times or the Viviant Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City.
  25. So it's been confirmed that the Zips will again wear a throwback helmet for homecoming and "full roo" on senior night. Hopefully they have some throwback jerseys to match the helmets this season? I do believe they are bringing back gold pants. Should be nice to have a lot of options this season.
