  1. I hope they aren't planning anything drastic as far as our branding. We are lucky enough to have a unique brand and logos that fit perfectly. If it ain't broke don't try to fix it.
  2. The Zips championship game run ends this year. Worst Akron team I've seen in the last 10 years.
  3. I'm predicting 7-5 as our best case scenario. Wins: Howard, Marshall, EMU, Miami, Buffalo, UMass, Can't Losses: Penn State, Pitt, Ohio, Ball State, BG
  4. Black is completely overused in sports and doesn't fit with blue/gold. The basketball team tried and it looks pretty bad. Last football team to try it was FIU. Black helmet, black jersey, blue pants. Looks terrible.
  5. Well this is long overdue. It may not seem like a big deal, but perception is everything. Everytime I see the current uniforms I can't help but think of the 1-11 seasons and the great Rob Ianello. The best way to predict what the new uniforms will look like is research current Adidas schools. Most teams have moved to techfit uniforms (Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Bowling Green, FIU, Louisville, Miss State, Cincy etc). They are extremely tight and usually pretty generic. Given that Akron is a smaller school I wouldn't expect an Oregon-type design. We just don't have the money for that. The Akron staff probably looked at an Adidas catalog, picked out a uniform template and told them what colors to make it. The helmet is the one exception, as I can see them doing a lot of cool stuff with it. Really though what is the point of keeping it a secret? The team has already seen them. Why not show the public and generate some buzz?
  6. But he was the recruiting coordinator at Notre Dame!... ...a school that doesn't even need a recruiting coordinator
  7. Typical Akron basketball. Would be nice to go a season, or even a few months without drama.
  8. At this point I'm just tired of waiting. UA has to "strike while the iron is hot." Spend $60 million for a football team that won 3 games in 3 years, but a 20+ win basketball team can't get a decent place to play? I know plenty of people will complain about it being downtown. It isn't a big deal.
  9. The JAR can be better. But it will never be bigger. Never have that big-time feel the Zips need to get to the next level. Unless they find a way to magically add an upper deck and 4k more seats. Most ideas people have would result in an even smaller arena.
  10. Always felt that would be the best option. We already have very nice team meeting rooms and locker rooms located at the JAR. Unfortunately UA seems to be taking the lazy route and directing their efforts to renovating our glorified high school gymnasium. (Although most high school gyms are probably nicer) So keep putting lipstick on that pig UA.
  11. Shooting 24% fg and 7% from 3pt land. I think someone blindfolded could shoot better than that. Lost to Toledo, Can't, and now down by almost 10 to a directional Michigan school. Embarrassing.
  12. How many rivals/scout stars = beast mode?
  13. Definitely looks better and is more mobile friendly. I agree it needs some Zips logos and colors, but I know it's probably not the easiest process.
  14. It was great to see Kwan put up solid numbers tonight. The problem though is we see it very often a guy goes for 15, 20, 30 pts and think he's had a "break out" game. Then next outing scores nothing. It's a product of a balanced offense, but we need to see some consistency.
  15. Unfortunately I think our women's team is more entertaining than the men's team. Wouldn't even be surprised to see them beat the men. Maybe that would at least give KD's team some motivation.
  16. Didn't Pitt lose to cupcake Youngstown State a few years ago? Personally I don't think FBS schools should ever play FCS schools. I get that the money helps their football program, but is it really beneficial to the FBS school? I'd much rather them schedule an exhibition game or something as a tune-up for the season, similar to basketball.
  17. It pulls the numbers from ticketmaster, which I believe isn't really accurate. I doubt we see more than 4,000 at the game.
  18. Starting watching in the second quarter. Unfortunately Zeke looked a bit lost out there. He had a wide open dunk, but other than that has been pretty nonexistent.
  19. Great play at the end of regulation. Wow...
  20. Zips playing uninspired lazy basketball right now. Unless they can make a run, I don't see them winning...
  21. A fan base that gets 45,000 to show up for a primetime game, and almost last in the NFL in attendance after one bad year. Embarrassing. That's about as "fair weather" as you can get.
  22. Brandon Weeden beat Luck and RG3 (in College) Colt McCoy beat Tom Brady and Drew Brees (in the NFL) Just saying...
  23. Down 16-5 right now. Zips came to play tonight!!
  24. If he wins the MAC championship in 2014 or 2015 he's gone. It's very unlikely the Zips would be that good, but can't say it's a guarantee he will stay until he retires.
  25. Not to get off track and make this a "Browns thread" but I feel that they've been in the "lose small" phase for a long time. For most of the games the past two years they have had leads in the second half, only to blow it. The defense may have talent, but they don't make stops when they need to. Specifically on 3rd down and late in the 4th quarter. I mean, they gave up a hail mary touchdown on 3rd and long against the Bears. Good defenses don't do that! I don't think the Browns try to hit a homerun by drafting a QB, because they never make the "exciting" pick. They never get the Cam Newton, RG3, Luck, Russell Wilson type QB's. They try to overthink the position and get a steal. Guys like Frye, Quinn, McCoy, and Weeden. Right now I put Bortles in that same group. He may win some games but he'll never be the reason a team wins the Superbowl.
