  1. Coaching staff seemed pretty pumped to get Gathings. We were the first to give him a D-1 offer last year, but he also picked up offers from Kent and BG in that time, along with a handful of FCS schools. Looking at his tape, MTB came to mind for some reason.
  2. Not that I have a real opinion of Miller yet, but I'd like to know what went wrong with Matthew Wilson. He seemed to turn the tide after the Scarborough disaster by patching some financial holes at least temporarily and brought people together. My guess is the board or the faculty was the issue.
  3. Majority of the MAC is refusing to publicize, so I don't know. Many across the country have. No nerve struck - just pointing out the fact that many subsidize athletics (with students doing most of it) in exchange for our entertainment. There is no surplus anybody is benefiting from (at least in G5) by playing. If there was, our program wouldn't be thrown under the bus constantly right now.
  4. Many players have contracted the virus. I don't believe any have "suffered" more than they would with the common flu. Lets be clear here. Akron football and many other football programs operate at a loss. The majority of the program funding comes from regulars students who pay tuition. I don't have a problem with it because I love athletics, but have no money (profit) to gain by playing football.. Even the Big 10 schools are going to lose a crap ton of money by playing. Wisconsin is projecting a 60-70mm loss if only conference games are played. College football gives many students a chance to get an education for free when they otherwise wouldn't and even become pro and change their family fortunes for generations to come. Enough with the "sacrificing athletes for money" bs. Many like to try to speak for the players when in reality they have no idea what they want. If given the choice to keep your scholly and enhance chances to go pro and play the game you love vs minor chance of contracting a virus with an incredibly minimal chance of causing death for somebody in that age range, I know what I'd pick.
  5. Without a doubt. When is it going to stop!?
  6. And the number of schools fielding soccer programs is continually decreasing. The sport is literally dying at the collegiate level.
  7. https://www.beaconjournal.com/news/20200723/university-of-akron-to-form-athletics-task-force-to-review-costs I think the findings will be that the costs aren't that extravagent (outside of Embick's salary) compared to the rest of the MAC/G-5 conferences, in fact, likely lower than the median.* *Outside of the football stadium which nobody can do anything about, was needed and made financial sense at the time it was built, and is significantly cheaper than what it would cost to build today.
  8. Buffalo isn't scheduled to play in OH until 9/26. I hope we don't cancel everything just so the Canadians don't feel left out.
  9. I don't disagree. Your statement was in regards to the players putting themselves at risk.
  10. Has any single college athlete who has tested positive died? The risk to a healthy college-aged athlete seems incredibly minimal. For every Trevor Lawrence there are 10+ players looking for the chance to prove they are cut out for professional football and change their and their families lives for generations.
  11. Worth taking a look at. We aren't even as bad as some others in our conference let alone the rest of the nation. We just get the publicity because the football team and university's recent failures. https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances
  12. AFAIK we lost our best OL to graduation and the 2nd best to Auburn and haven't brought any upper classmen transfers in. Coaches must be really banking on the others who contributed last year getting better and their red-shirt freshman OL.
  13. https://www.elevenwarriors.com/college-football/2020/07/115150/mac-commissioner-disappointed-about-lost-non-conference-games-but-expects-strong-relationship-with-big-ten-to-continue
  14. They might be contractually obligated to pay. What argument do they have not to play/pay when they are going to go ahead and still play their conference games as of now? P5 is the one breaching the contracts. Even though they might have to pay, they are still likely coming out ahead financially by canceling the games. Don't have to deal with game day costs and they likely aren't missing out on ticket revenue. The more I think about it, I'm pretty confident G5's will at least get a substantial fraction of their payout in whatever channel they have to go through. A P5 being proactive and paying may think they are doing it for good PR or whatever, but realistically they are just avoiding a bunch of legal fees + eventually paying out by doing so.
  15. Rich Hall, who I was high on as freshman from performance in the spring game, is certainly becoming well traveled. Akron year 1 -> Indy CC year 2 -> NMSU beginning of year 3 -> ??
  16. Most definitely - myself included. I don't blame people for easing up until now though. This is the first time in all of our lives dealing with a situation like this.
  17. I hope what you believe is true. The country was essentially shut down for 2.5 months and it apparently didn't do much besides help "flatten the curve". I've been running errands all morning and I'd estimate 95% of people were wearing masks. Only recall one person who wasn't.
  18. Agree. Unfortunately that still doesn't likely mean any more $$ for us. Anyone in addition to the norm who would normally come won't be able to with whatever social distancing measures that will be in place.
  19. Jack wagon Dustin Fox - still on crap $hit list after trashing the school/football program - tried to spin this as a positive sign that we would have football in the fall.
  20. Screw the P5 and move G5 football to spring. We can’t continue to rely on them and they have too much power/don’t want us as it is. Might as well be in two different divisions anyways considering zero chance to win a national championship and not much better to get into a high bowl game. I have a really good feeling Ivy League isn’t going to regret the decision. Football is America’s sport. G5 programs already have an established fan base that will continue to grow when no other football is on. More ticket revenue + renegotiated TV deals could easily have us break even or come out ahead compared to now. This isn’t the same situation as these failing pro leagues building from the ground up.
  21. BIG 10 cancels OOC schedule which likely means all MAC shools scheduled to play them are missing out on serious cash. Would be a pleasant surprise if we could benefit for once and still get to play Clemson. Odds aren't on our side though.
  22. Konata looks like a beast (not even talking about this catch). Kind of surprised we were his only FBS offer. My assumption is grades, because he shouldn’t need to greyshirt. I believe he is also Henry Ruggs’ cousin. Looking forward to seeing him in the blue and gold. With all the seniors this season, I wouldn’t be surprised if he contributes as a freshman.
  23. Can't find a 247 profile, but looks like he had offers to UMASS, Liberty, and a handful of FCS schools.
  24. that sucks.
