You guys realize this isn't like basketball and the schedules are made years in advance, right? It really is impossible to predict how ANY team will be 5 years from now. Hell even OSU had a year where they won the Sugar Bowl and then had a losing record the next season (and almost lost to Toledo). I can't be the only one who remembers Ohio beating Penn State a few years ago. I can't be the only one who remembers when we came within a few inches of beating ranked Michigan. Yes it turned out Michigan sucked that year, but there was no reason to think that team was going to suck going into the game - same with Penn State. I wonder if Appy State fans are complaining about the "slaughter" games. That "slaughter game" made them famous! Going against good competition makes you better and will prepare you more for conference play. You play the games for a reason. I bet our players are loving the chance to go on national television with a chance to shock the world. Go Zips!

WVU Maverick Wolfey transferring to UA
LZIp replied to zipsoutsider's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I am admittedly not to impressed with his tape, but I did find this, which could explain why he wasn't offered by others. He was offered to WVU as a freshman - Dana's first ever offer to a freshman. http://wvmetronews.com/2014/02/24/high-school-freshman-maverick-wolfley-commits-for-2017/ -
WVU Maverick Wolfey transferring to UA

"At 6-3, 225 pounds, Wolfley will switch from fullback to linebacker at Akron, a position that he likely fits better at." He is a class of 2017 3 star recruit (whose only offer was interestingly WVU). Looks like an early enrollee. I'd guess he has to sit out since he enrolled?? Not really a negative though as he is a true freshman. http://247sports.com/Player/Maverick-Wolfley-45495?Institution=22743 -
I get the logic of sitting and I really don't disagree, especially after Wisconsin last year, but it is just not a good message to send to your team.

Good to read. Somebody should bump those 2017 QB threads

^^ That is interesting! I recall hearing he was sticking around as a business professor (as ironic as it was). For some reason I didn't think that ended up happening though. I figured he would be back in Texas by now.

It really is nice to have a President like Mr. Wilson. Such a night and day difference compared to Scarb. Not that I'm defending him, but I don't really think Scarby ever had a chance though. Somebody had to be the scapegoat for the hole Proenza put us in.

Official apparel provider for the Zips?! Sounds cool..but what exactly does it mean?
-
Jesus. He somehow made it weaker than his Akron OOC schedules.
-
Sorry. I got it mixed up with the Diamond Head classic in Honolulu.

Maybe his most insight ever! I liked that article. Sampson is apparently transitioning to LB, which is surprising to me. Hopefully he ends up contributing more than the last ST V. DE converted to LB (Junius). Two players getting academics straightened out. Can't help but guess one is Bell. The other??

Who is going to the Penn State game - where will you be?
LZIp replied to Phootss's topic in Akron Zips Football
Still up in the air for me. Not sure if thats how I want to spend at least part of Labor Day weekend or not... -
If I am not mistaken, we know of Marshall, App State, Dayton, Cle State, and 3 games in Maui. That should be just over half of our non conference schedule right there.
-
Have you or anyone bought anything Akron from them? I stopped by around Christmas last year and they did not have any of the "Z" shirts in stock.
-
Still willing to make that bet?
-
I am happy to see that Jojo is doing well. He's probably my favorite offensive Zip of all time. Hopefully he can make the team. If only he didn't drop that ball vs OU....

This is the official link through the university. However, I'd bet my left nut you could get GA tickets on gameday for $15. https://www1.ticketmaster.com/university-of-akron-zips-football-vs-akron-ohio-09-16-2017/event/050052DB86071847?artistid=821759&majorcatid=10004&minorcatid=8&tm_link=venue_msg-0_050052DB86071847#efeat4212

Last time I'll bring this up as I can't imagine him not being here already if he was coming back, but any Brian Bell sighting? I have not seen him in any videos and he is not on the roster.

Thanks Doc. As pointed out above, TB's answers were kind of meh where we didn't really learn anything. That sort of leads me to believe Woody will be good to go week 1 without any setbacks, but who knows. I like that Reinke seems like a lock to start at right DE. I like what I saw out of him in limited time last year. Wasn't he originally a walk on? I never realized how much Keener loves tight ends

Center? While not official, I think Jared Lorenzen would be a good candidate. http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/08/jared-lorenzen-hefty-lefty-new-york-giants-500-pounds-project-lose-weight-videos

ISU preview provided by Deadspin. Interesting note - it appears their QB from last year is now...a middle linebacker? http://deadspin.com/nobodys-better-at-maintaining-mediocrity-than-iowa-stat-1797683090?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_twitter&utm_source=deadspin_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow

2018 Treon Sibley, Coventry ATH 5-11½ 185 lbs
LZIp replied to zipsoutsider's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
This isn't new news, FWIW. I figured there was some relation, but I didn't know his brother was Todd. I wonder why they ended up at different schools? Exactly what recruiting service is he rated by, @UAZippers? I can't find anything on him. I do like his tape though. -
I know part of it is because he's injured, but who would have thought Marcus would have been the first one waived out of the players we have at training camp this year?

This is just an odd take. You don't think Akron's shitty graduation rates had/have anything to do with them having zero or very low admission requirements? The graduation rates have a lot more to do with who they let in than how tough the programs are. Harvard has a 98% graduation rate. Their programs must be a joke! I'm sure there would be a pretty clear correlation when comparing the more "prestigious" schools with the schools with the higher graduation rates. Half of my dorm floor failed out their freshman year because they partied every night, got into drugs, and never went to class. None of that has anything to do with how tough any programs are. It has everything to do with how responsible someone is, which is why I am posting it as my advice. Can't believe an innocent comment has evolved into this discussion.
