Have any links? I'd be interested in reading about this.

Have nothing to say about that guy, but being a casual follower of Mount/OAC/DIII football, I do find Buffalo's hire very intriguing.

I do not have much of anything specific to add. I lived right across from the stadium when I was in school, so usually had my own little tailgates before games. What I do have to say is that Akron fans should be put together. We don't have enough support to give priority parking to people who can afford to donate $2500 or whatever. Scattering the fans at random lots all over campus looks bad. The tailgating scene is depressing compared to ANY other D1 football game I have attended (not a knock on any of the regulars, you guys are awesome). I would love to be a regular tailgater. Unfortunately, I am a lot more passionate than most of my friends, so they want to see that it looks like fun before they will make time to go. Lets get this fixed. Maybe start charging premiums to park in lot 9 once we actually have some real demand. Remember, UA is a non-profit.

The 2015 Football Commitment List
LZIp replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
They also have the same first names... I saw something about this posted before, but it looks like UAB is indeed planning to shut down their program (looks like so more money can go to big brother). All potential recruits would be eligible to play immediately... http://deadspin.com/report-uab-to-shut-down-its-football-program-1664885691?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_twitter&utm_source=deadspin_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow -
It's worth noting that this was the OSU's player's first season playing football. Before that, he was on the wrestling team. Its not clear how many concussions were received for football vs wrestling.

One name is slipping my mind, but I was looking at the roster the other day. I did not see Junius (came with Newman Williams from SVSM) I did not see the DE from Buchtel we got at the end of recruiting last year Normally I'd right this off as them being redshirted so they arent on the roster, but guys like Kincade, Marcus, Alexander, and Williams are all on the roster... Anyone know anything about these guys?

Look, the season was disappointing for me as well. I forked the money and time over to go to Penn State. Watched us get our asses kicked by Marshall, lose to putrid Ball St, Buffalo, and even worse...Can't St. Saw all of our losses. But if you have nothing that you can look at to make you step off the ledge (Pitt win, hot start, actual hype around the program for once), I don't know what to tell you. I'm not happy with 5-7, but I sure as hell like it a lot better than 1-11. Speaking of 1-11, maybe Ianello left this program much worse than we ever could have imagined? Has any other program every gone 1-11 3 straight years? And please don't take what I'm saying as being an apologist, I'm just not as much of a pessimist as you all. In reality, we came up two wins short of what most people predicted. Big whoop. Does one more win make you feel better? It didn't mean anything. Most likely weren't going to a bowl, and even if we did win and get picked, we would have got our asses kicked. Our starting QB was out for 2 of those very winnable games that we lost. The team lost all momentum and never recovered. It happens.

But the Browns suck and are in a playoff race and beat the hell out of Pitt and Cinci this season and just ditched their horrible 2012 draft pick after only two seasons!! They clearly arent doing it right! But lets just talk about the loser owners and GMs and coaches before them like it still matters!
-
One of those QBs is currently ineligible and it makes zero sense to burn a redshirt 3/4ths of the way through the season. Nobody is talking about this season at all. The thread is called "Kyle Pohl 2015". Thanks.

If you truly believe we are building something, you can see the positives. I haven't given up hope yet and will not unless there is continued stagnation or regression. To me a bowl game would be a huge step in building this program that has potential but has been so bad historically. I remember all of the articles when we first hired Bowden on the potential of the program. We were called the Florida St of the north, hotbed for football, etc. If you believe any bowl game would be a one hit wonder, then I dont know why you waste your time following the program and posting on here. I cant root for teams that I think will suck forever. Not sure how anyone can. One bowl game wont do much. But to me is a building step when once you get there, you rarely look back. We play in the MAC for crying out loud. Let's be real, its a shitty conference. An established coach at a program with the best facilities should eventually be able to win and win consistently.

Hoyer is certainly better than Weeden, or anyone else they have thrown back there the past decade. But there's a reason he has been an NFL journeyman his entire career. I don't remember Hoyer's last "good" game, and nobody has turned on him yet (except the Manziel nuthuggers who never gave him a fair chance). Pohl has been in the system his entire career and has not progressed from day 1. You could make an argument he has regressed. This is nothing like what you are talking about. You play the best players. I dont care who you are or where you came from.

How many of the Browns QBs have gone on to be successful after they were done in Cleveland? Obviously they haven't made any wrong moves with cutting ties with them.

Have to look at the opportunity cost for declining as well. Going to a bowl game could give us that extra edge to get a certain recruit. Certain recruit could be/turn into some elite player. Elite player could win us a bunch of games which increases attendance and exposure which more than makes up for that couple hundred thousand we lost to go to that Boca Raton bowl. Accepting that Boca Raton bowl gave us a month of extra practice that half of the nation didnt get. Theoretically that gives us an edge over the programs that didn't make it. Someone posted a stat before that the majority of teams that make a bowl one year, also make it the next. Our coaches are coaching more and our players our playing more so that gives us more bang for our buck.
-
You'll get the answer to your question when we see if Ohio goes or not. Yes they absolutely should have accepted if they got one. I have little doubt we would have gotten blown out, but this program needs all the help it can get. Going to a bowl game is a selling point in recruiting and a sign that the program is moving forward.
-
You aren't a Browns fan so you don't know what its like, and every elite QB was unproven at one point. I'd rather take my chances on a high ceiling QB than a topped out mediocre one who leads us to 5 win seasons with one of the worst offenses in the nation.

What a sour end to the season, eh Zipsnation? After starting 4-2, the Zips finished 1-5 against the easiest MAC schedule we have had in years. Same record as last season and let our horrible rivals end any chances we had at receiving a bowl bid. Trying to look at positives (while still disappointed), we did finish 5-7. Strictly looking at records, which is all that really matters, we did not progress or regress as a program. Bowden's first year here, we did not progress as a program with our record and we only had one direction to go- up. The next season we saw a nice jump. We also had probably our best win in program history going down to Pitt and really controlling them and playing a great game. We shut down their great RB and contained their star WR. They are playing for a bowl game this week. We also had some disappointing losses. I think this is a fair assessment of where our program is right now; good enough to beat some programs that we shouldn't but not good enough to beat teams that we should consistently. I think to continue the progression of the program, there are some changes to be made. 1- It is time to show the OC the door. Let's take a look at stats over the 3 seasons of the Bowden era. Year 1- We had the 61st ranked offense in the nation.312 passing yards/game, 114 rushing, and 26 points. Keep in mind that this is with a career FCS back up QB who had obvious limitations to his game. Not a knock on Dalton, just is what it is. Year 2- 109th ranked offense in the nation. 219 passing yards/game, 122 rushing, and 20 points. Ironically, we managed to go 5-7 with these stats. Year 3- 87th ranked offense in the country.255 passing yards/game, 118 rushing yards, and 22 points. The offense has regressed since Milwee has taken over, and he has had more developed talent to work with. Pohl who once looked promising in his first real playing time in that last game of 2012 against Toledo has won us some more games than we are used to, but just "some more" isn't good enough. He he not improved in my eyes. There needs to be an open QB competition and I believe there will be. I think we will have a nice QB come out of the pack with Chapman, Kincaide, Woodson, and even still Pohl. I hope that Pohl stays with the program if he loses the job. We all saw how not having an experienced back up can derail a season. Pohl doesn't deserve all of the heat, though. WRs had way too many drops and the running game was inconsistent. I am confident and excited to see Alexander getting carries next season. I am happy with what Amato has done with the defensive unit. I still would like some more depth in the secondary. I did think that Givens, Scott, Ford, and Durant had good seasons. Both starting corners returning is nice. In summary, the season was not what we wanted, but isn't a complete disappointment. It's important to remember how bad this program was when Bowden took over. We were still working with players who played under Ianello. I can deal with one year of stagnation, but its important to keep moving forward. The bottom line is that Bowden and Co. need to bring in better talent. Western Michigan has turned it around fairly fast. Why? Well I think they have a nice coach in Fleck, but they have also done some really nice recruiting!

What about replacing Bre Ford at SS? We need more help with the d-backfield than anything. -

I think Jerome has a very bright future on the defensive side of the ball. He has made some nice plays as a freshman when given the opportunity. -

OLine obviously needs upgrades too. 5 vs 3 and losing seems to have been way too common this year. -

That lazy play call fade has worked approximately zero times this season. And I take back what i said about Stein.
