Is raising the funds needed for a new arena in one year a realistic goal? pat: could you be more specific on the changes you want to have the University taken "seriously"? I know you arent a fan of the administration as whole, as well as the student leaders, etc...but that is obviously because they aren't doing something that you want them to do. Curious what it is. From what I have heard, the University has changed drastically over the past 15 years, at least the look of it. sidenote: Saw that Tressel was in Belmont County today talking to kids about the importance of college. May not mean anything to you guys, but coming from Belmont County, many are not informed of the importance of college from their parents. Guys go to the mine, girls go to community college and end up working some desk job.

I just read a really interesting comment from the article LOZ posted. This is a great idea that I have not thought of before. This would be like the BPL (soccer), in that it gives teams something to fight for if they are in a lower division, and it gives teams something to fight for in the higher divisions if they are out of contention for whatever the new system will be. It would make for some entertaining football. Though, I dont think I would make it just 1 team, I would want the potential for 2 teams with the possibility of a 3rd (such as a 1 game playoff). Note that I think this would be a great idea IF the current model ever came to what is being discussed, not that I am lobbying for it now. Here is a short article I found on it: http://www.elevenwarriors.com/forum/footba...legation-in-cfb

I really didnt interpret his post as him saying that not playing on ESPN was the reason, or any part of the reason he was fired. If anything, WMU likes that because they get to have their cake and eat it, too. That being, playing all home games on Saturdays (maximizing their attendance/concessions revenue) and being apart of the MAC and receiving the 300k without playing a mid-week home game.

Well... I am not sure who you are arguing for, the NCAA being a curse to non-BCS programs or ESPN being a curse to BCS programs, but Ill elaborate on both. The current NCAA model is a curse to non-BCS programs because they don't have a fair shot to win the championship before a game is even played. Think about it, is there any other collegiate sport where a mid-major has no shot to win the championship? As for ESPN being a curse to BCS programs (note: this doesnt include Akron)- is that ESPN has a bias to the SEC that is unfair to everybody else in the BCS, which creates an unfair advantage (in my eyes anyways). Yes, with the SEC's success, it makes sense from a business standpoint to do this. However, as ESPN basically being a monopoly, I think it is their duty report impartially and not lobby for the SEC. Not to mention, the SEC has teams (not all) ranked highly every year at the beginning, and undeservedly so (see Arkansas last year) because of what the top teams do. The SEC is a very top heavy league. In fact, the bottom 8 teams went 0-30 against the top 6 teams in the conference in 2012. Im curious as to how many AP voters have any sort of affiliation at all with ESPN....

Well, Im sure if you cared enough to look it up (I dont, because I know Im right), you would find that the deal works out better in favor of a school like Akron than it would at OU. Where the actually numbers in attendance variance between weeknight/weekend games might be a bigger percentage swing in attendance, but a smaller total number, which is what matters, because of our horrible attendance. I would say the NCAA has been a curse to non-BCS programs. ESPN has been a curse to BCS programs.

Webb tore his ACL in the spring. Little to no chance he would make it back for this season.
-
Wouldnt do him much good when Lebron will only be there for his rookie season.
-
Hmm. Looks I may be mistaken. He still brings in exceptional talent, though. I would expect him to have won the East more than once in his 8 years at coach. Zero conference championships (including an absolute blowout loss) and one division championship.
-
looks to be about ~18% drop off if my math is correct. But the numbers are still good overall, and you are getting much more exposure than you would on the weekend. Then the question would be does the ESPN deal plus the amount of national exposure you are getting make up the 18% difference you are missing out on attendance, which is most certainly does. Its not ideal for the fan of the school, but from a business standpoint, it makes sense.

The MAC has actually had 2 good seasons in a row.

South Carolina doesnt win SEC championships because Spurrier is a career underachiever. No reason for him not to be at the top with the talent he brings in. His teams underachieve every year.

Well said.

Not to change the subject, but Ibaka has played like straight crap this series.
-
Because the NFL is a business model that is set up on equality. The NCAA is not.

Williams appears to have already beat out former big time HS recruit and USC quarterback (ended his career at Richmond), Aaron Corp. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/...ends-in-dallas/ Some research on Nick Stephens... He was a 4 star recruit in HS and a former starter at Tennessee, who ended his career at Tarleton. Appears to have a little bit of history with Dallas as well, being that he tried out for them last year.

I think I'd equate it as having about the same talent as the Puerto Rico tip-off.

I like what UPA stands for, but the article makes them look very inept. Have no problem with Knight withholding the donation until UPA shows they have their shi* together.

Who is bashing Lebron; and I only see one person complaining about St.V -
This is off topic, but it isnt worth making a new thread for. Just saw the OU softball play on sports center, and that the MAC tournament was in Akron. Its too bad the tournament wasnt on campus as well as the track tourney.

And what is so good about Colorado? You do realize Colorado is one of the worst programs along with Akron, but at least Akron has some upside. Obviously he is going to try to be the starter, but there are many reasons besides the football team he could be coming here. It was mentioned he was looking at Ivy league schools, and had offers to Ivy League schools coming out of high school, so he is very smart. I'd assume UA has a good reputation in whatever graduate degree he is planning to pursue.

really? Its always seemed dead and boring. Definitely doesnt have a dorm feel. I would say the only one that rivals it would be Honor's.
-
I mean there is a possibility he could be a starter. I'll go as far as to say he is a true D1 player (which is better than any other back up we have). He was named "co-starter" of a 1-11 team that lost its real starter in the Spring with a torn ACL. It's a good thing, but I wouldnt call him a "big time coup", although it does fill a big void.
