Maybe he really doesn't like the condition of that turf lol.

Don't disagree with any of you and honestly I'm reconsidering going as well, but I would have to imagine there is a reason for it not being in the stadium other than "just because".
-
Looks like he’s started a couple games throughout his career and played a decent amount, but not a ton in the way of stats. Still should be able to produce in the MAC with that talent though. 2 years of eligibility left.

Penn st WR!

Think it’ll be a nice one too. Not too often he sends out these types of tweets for commits (based on our small sample size).

Because I missed it.

Thats awesome news. Groce giving up money would make it seem like he isn't going to jump up the first chance he can, which is obviously good news for us.

2021 Recruit - Luke Brown (PG)
LZIp replied to Let'sGoZips94's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Luke Brown looking to make it 3 schools in 3 years. -
Creating a scholarship chart thread at the request of a few. Attaching what we have to date. As always, there are some assumptions that are going to be made. This currently includes: Each starting K, PK, and LS, regardless of who they are, have a scholarship. Assumes the following players who haven't been announced, either in the formal university announcement process or on social media as a walk-on earning one, but have played substantially or even started are on scholarship: Tyson Durant, Andrew Behm, and Alex Robarge. The current list includes includes the following new members: 2022 announced signees (linked here), and the additional portal commitments we've had since then. I didn't include Keylen Davis for now as he is the only freshman signee not listed on the roster. I also don't think we have any early enrollees from the freshman considering we didn't sign anyone until the Feb signing day and the semester would have started in January. So him potentially not being listed for that reason shouldn't be the case. Took some liberty in assigning the class of last year's freshman as either red-shirt or not based on PT I recall them getting. I think there will be a lot of updates to the classes on the online roster between now and the season. Right now, the list shows exactly 85 scholarships with 24 new players added. This means we can add up to 8 more as we should or will be at the 32 limit threshold. The typical annual threshold is 25, but beginning with 2022, the NCAA has allowed that number to increase by 1 for each player who voluntarily enters the portal, up to 32 total. The overall scholarship limit is back down to 85 as far as I know, so to add any new players, we would need some to leave...which will undoubtedly happen at the conclusion of spring ball. Maintaining this is a group effort. I have basically no inside info, so if there is somebody on or not on scholly that you're aware of and the list doesn't reflect it, please let me know. This is a guy I’d be thrilled to land watching Duquesne some last year. Their faithful couldn’t understand why he didn’t get more PT and I agree. Though not sure he wants to play minimal minutes behind Freeman for a few years.
-
Right now I'm showing us at 85 with the potential of I believe 4 more additions (but would need a player to leave for each addition since we are at 85). I want to double check the 2022 additions and position listings and then will post tomorrow and hopefully we can get a mod to pin it like you mentioned before.

I think I heard the spring game is in the field house, and not in the Info. Anyone confirm? I'm sure there will be people showing up at the Info and wondering whats going on if they don't see anything if so.

Another higher touted local guy in the portal. Gates has already had a few stops though (if he actually made it to BC that is).
-
It will be interesting to see how it shakes out for sure. I'd have thought we were set at TE (maybe even had one too many already), but this was likely a situation where the talent and potential goodwill of giving a Hoban player a home was too good to pass up. Just seems like we have too many guys (unless planning to run a lot of two TE sets) , but regardless TEs should be good special teams players.

Re Lawson: he was one of the higher rated recruits in Arth’s initial class, but I believe he’s been oft injured throughout his career. I was wondering who that #10 was at first. Here’s to hoping he ends up being a pleasant surprise.

My lord. Hell of a get.

Class of '23 Offers & Verbal Commits
LZIp replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Looks like an interior OL from Penn State. Hell yes! Edit: Looks like he played on interior at PSU, but was maybe recruited as a tackle. At the very least seems versatile. Was also a 4 star recruit to Penn St. -
1 week to the spring game gentlemen!

I wouldn't consider myself bold on him, though the talent would appear to be there based on his HS recruitment. I think they brought him in to fill a void. Ali was more of a traditional 3 rather than a stretch 4 IMO. Though he played the 4 a lot, he was undersized. Adding Hunter gives us a player who is bigger and can help with rebounding/guarding in the post, but also be an outside threat and help us maintain appropriate spacing for Freeman to work. Not a whole lot different than what Wynn can provide, but hopefully he's an upgrade. With the addition of Hankerson (because I think the last spot goes to a true big man back up for Freeman), I think we may end up being a little smaller in the back court, but thats not as big of a deal as being undersized in the front court. Freeman is prone to foul trouble and there is no true big man behind him. The wildcard to all of this is if Groce thinks Dawson and backup by committe can hold down the 3. If so, we should be in pretty good shape. Time will tell.
-
So....Kevin Durant. Easy enough.
-
Other: a true big back up for Freeman.

Lets hope poaching from the former MAC west works out better than last year. He's 6'2" so clearly a guard to me..

Position Preview (and updates) - Offensive Line
LZIp replied to catdaddyp's topic in Akron Zips Football
Really wasn't much in this one as some others IMO. I'm having trouble copying the article, but these are the guys mentioned: “A lot of guys, really more than five guys, had a really good offseason. Xavior Gray, Jordan Daniels, Nate Williams, Alex Robarge,” he said. “All of those guys had a really good offseason in terms of the weight room, accountability, culture, all of those things.” And there’s Banes, who played tackle at Houston. -
