  1. by the way, Porter would tell the Rowdies if we were bad. Tonight he said this " ‎"One of the best I've seen here." So not sure what you all were hearing...we do have some new chants...maybe you heard those for the majority of it. Anyways, there's still improvement that could be done...If pro supporters can get it done, so can we.. I can pick up on any chant, I'm familiar with most soccer chants in the US and the world. But for the average or new soccer fan. They have no clue. Improvements would be great, but I'm saying most great supporter groups have CAPO's to direct the supporter groups. Just a thought.
  2. Just a thought, has anyone thought of spreading out and turning around and sacrificing to be a CAPO? Where I stand every game on the hill, you can't hear the chants because everyone's voices are heading towards the pitch. So if I can't hear the chant, neither can anyone else, so how would they follow. And they continue to socialize as if I'm back at a High School football game. I'm not sure, I'm not packed in the middle behind the goal, so I don't see or hear everything that goes on down front. But I'd think if you spread out some groups, designate a few CAPO's, pass out chant sheets, it would help the process of what you're looking for. Another thing that's always bothered me, but I'm not sure if its allowed. Where is the TIFO? I'd think with the amount of student involvement, why not make some overhead banners and flags. I've seen one or two flags before, but none tonight(maybe I missed it). One night of paint on fabric, could easily be the class of college soccer. I'm all game if you need any help.
  3. I don't mind seeing Meves sit a game if they have a stretch of 3 matches in 7 days like maybe against a W.Michigan between a Ohio State home and UC Santa Barbara road match. Even at the top level you see goalkeepers receive rest in a week stretch of 3 matches, but its usually in a Cup or Tournament the backup participates in. The backups have little to no game experience. What if Meves is injured, or receives a 2nd Yellow for delaying? I believe Porter keeps his GK backups in prime readiness though. Its a thought and I like the question. Honestly I'd probably stick with Meves, he's gotten us this far, but he scares the hell out of us all I'm sure of with mistakes. Every goal kick, he seems to be so indecisive where to kick the ball. Who is he trying to fake out, running back and forth before he kicks the ball. lol
  4. Thanks! I sent over the info you gave me today. Sorry Z.I.P. its not Temryss Lane LOL Its actually Helen Stoumbos, but I'll give her your number.
  5. Sounds like the "host" is trying to make amends for referring to the AK-Rowdies by some other name a year ago -- what was it? He's a good guy, though, so humor him! I remember the soccer games were played between the HS band show and the football pre-game during Acme-Zip Saturdays -- however I never witnessed one as they always came about 3-4 hrs before the football game. Not sure how many folks were present -- but probably more than the 500 or so who watched at Lee Jackson in the day. I hope I can get off work at 1 o'clock to watch Friday. Go Zips!I believe he called us the AK-49ers a couple times actually lol...Does he want history on how the AK-Rowdies started and how it grew so popular at Zips' soccer games?I forgot about the AK-Rowdies being called another name last year on FSC. Lol. We'll get that corrected this Friday. This actually is not for the Friday night broadcast. Its for another show aired on FSC. "We Live Soccer" about the passion of soccer fans. Anyways, they will be in attendance Friday night. The American Outlaws were on in last months episode. They used footage from the USA/Canada match in Detroit, the game I attended. Anyways, the host(she) of the show contacted me and was looking for some good stories to cover about the fans before and during the game. I already mentioned lots about the AK-Rowdies, hopefully they'll meet up with the students at the march and get some interviews in the crowd.okay lol. Do you want me to write the history of how the Rowdies first got involved with men's soccer? headaviatorrowdie might be better to explain it then i am, since he was there when Porter asked about this. I wasn't there. Just putting pieces together from what I've heard Porter tell us Rowdies and what other people have told me from the "Goal Patrol."Sure, I don't know all the history of the AK-Rowdies. I'm probably like you, only know bits and pieces. I've heard a little of the Goal Patrol idea before. Any info/history/traditions/etc you can give me, I'm sure it would help out. I'm probably missing a lot of info I could pass along. I tried contacting the head rowdies, haven't heard back. If you rather send it in a email, you can send it to aoakron@gmail.comThanks

  7. Hey Zips Nation,I need your help. I've been in contact with a host of Fox Soccer Channel and they're looking for any great stories coming out of the Akron area from the fan perspective. They want to hear stories about the Akron fans and from the community. I want to hear from you, compile it all together, and pass it on to FSC. If and when I get more info, I'll be sure to post it here first. Thanks
  8. Tulloch is a beast... he makes two of Mattocks. He also has 8 goals already... But we shouldn't have any trouble scoring without him... once we gel.Why did he transfer out?A short article on Tulloch the other day - McKauly Tulloch brings experience, goals
  9. Not to rub it into Cleveland AO Akron defeated AO Cleveland 7-2 yesterday in the 2nd Leg of the 1st Annual Rust Belt Cup (13-9 aggregate) No attendance records set at this match, but the home unbeaten streak begins at 1
  10. I'll be there no later than 4:30, maybe 4pm.
  11. Here is another favorite of mine that could last for a few minutes. Sounders pull it off quite well http://youtu.be/MkaXGmZm_B0
  12. +1 I bought my season ticket yesterday
  13. I agree with this version, its always to fast during the match. Gotta make these songs/chants last more than 25 seconds. Here is a favorite of mine - Could easily incorporate some Akron Zip words into it
  14. Ando is correct, AO Akron will be at Manny's Pub slamming down a few cold ones before the match this Saturday and all future matches 394 Brown St. On the corner of Brown and Exchange

This Saturday vs Mexico at Kevin OBryans Pub is going to be nuts! Can't wait! Ando, have fun in Chicago. Here is the pub where AO Chicago gets together if you're in the area during USA v Mexico - AO Chicago - Small Bar MaxZIP, you can't tell me next match anymore. AO Akron #50 has your name all over it The $1 domestic bottles and $9 16ounce strip really hit the spot. Thanks for having me out I'll take number 50. #50 will be waiting! 18. When they get a beer selection similar to Winking Lizard's offerings, I'll be there. they had sound when I've been there for the games. Best place for USMNT games during the World Cup was the Barley House, they also did an amazing job for Akron's Championship game.. I need some serious convincing before I drive to South Akron for a game. Do they have wings with ghost pepper sauce? I love hot sauce. Main reason I love Lockview, they don't serve Bud or Miller products!! Keeps all the heathens away. I agree with the Barley House for the World Cup! I was there for most of the matches including all the US matches. One reason it was great, it was during the afternoons. AO Akron started out at the Barley House, the problem is the evenings. They have something going on every night and the weekend evenings are more of a dance club. So getting sound on for a USMNT is a huge issue. Using the banquet room of the Barley House was a hassle for us and the staff. Nothing against the Barley House, unless we start bringing out 100 people to watch USMNT matches, its not going to work out. 2014 World Cup, this could probably work. Lockview is one of my favorite hangouts and I've been going there for years, but I don't think Danny is going to let us change it into a soccer pub. I'm not a big wing eater, so I'm not sure what sauces KOBs have available. Most of our members purchase Smithwicks, Guinness, Lake Erie Monster, etc. at KOBs. But we do have some domestic cheap beer drinkers. Hell, one of our Members is from England, just enjoys the fact we're trying to get footy fans together and attends all the US watch parties. I met him when he joined AO Akron, and when he did, him and I started getting together at the Pub to watch EPL the last two months of the season. That's what this is about for us. Afterwards, myself and a few others will look into our situation and look to where we can improve. I'm more than happy to take in new suggestions for a new location. The problem is Akron doesn't have a friendly soccer pub where you can watch soccer 24 hours. Everyone goes to a different place, I know most of the places who have FSC available. The valley, south Akron, west Akron, etc. Some places have loud rock bands, karaoke, and other crazy stuff. The issue we run into, is most of the USMNT matches are played on weekend evenings. I would just like a pub where I can go watch soccer, if its 9am in the morning for EPL or late night MLS at 10pm. A sports bar that shows and supports soccer. What we need is Caleb Porter to open up a Soccer Pub with great food and great beers. And I'll work in the dish cleaning room. Shoot me an email anytime aoakron@gmail.com I'm always open for ideas and suggestions how we can make this work.
  19. When they get a beer selection similar to Winking Lizard's offerings, I'll be there. When Winking Lizard starts showing our USMNT on with Audio and welcomes 20-30 drinking US Supporters, maybe we'll join you! No, KOBs does not have 100 different kinds of bottles, but I'm pretty sure you could find something you'd like for 2 hours.
  20. We're calling all Soccer Fans! Its WIN or GO HOME! Get off your couch and on your feet (or on to a bar stool if you are so inclined) and get over to Kevin O'Bryan's Pub Sunday afternoon to watch the Yanks go head to head with the Reggae Boys. Lets send all the good energy over to RFK! Bring the ruckus! Pub opens at 230pm Kickoff is 3pm! COME ON YOU YANKS! AO Akron Mid-June Newsletter Its all about changing the culture of soccer in our community. Uniting and growing the culture of soccer transfers over to our Zips on the pitch. The excitement, the passion, the energy. It all leads to bigger things. And Caleb Porter is our future Coach for the USMNT!
  21. No problem, I found out through a legit source Saturday about Nanchoff and Caleb Porter. I guess Caleb was also at the Spain match. I wasn't able to catch the Vancouver match, and didn't know if anyone else caught it. I did come across this article today - Nanchoff's debut brightens loss.
  22. Hey! I saw that guy with the #49 Alaska jersey in the stands. He must really put on the frequent flyer miles. Unfortunately, I was unable to watch beyond the third Espana goal. Where were Dempsey/Donovan? Let's hope they're available for the Gold Cup. Donovan was sick, flu or something. Dempsey came on in the second half. I was expecting this slaughter and the 10 substitutions at half. The Spain match should of never been scheduled. If it was earlier in the week your top players could play a full match and be well rested for Canada. Disappointing day indeed across the board. #49 Alaska will be in Detroit, I have his ticket. Alaska or Max, now lives in the DC area.
  23. Did anyone catch Nanchoff's debut over the weekend? Also heard Caleb is working with the USMNT in Detroit today. I'm going to keep an eye out for him during pre-game tomorrow while I'm in Ford Field, but I'm sure he'll be up in a Box Seat somewhere.
  24. After the USA vs Spain match we'll be giving away this fantastic prize worth $325 4 Season Tickets ASA Gray Hoodie ASA Orange Practice Jersey Orange Stainless Steel Water Bottle Orange Sports Bandz Watch Magnetic Car Decal Other Prizes: AO Scarf USA Scarf Kevin O'Bryan's Gift Certificate Ido Bar & Grill Gift Certificate
  25. I'm really disappointed Teal Bunbury didn't make the squad, but it doesn't slow down the party for our USMNT. The Gold Cup is finally here! Not only do we get the chance to bring the Cup back into our own hands after losing it in 2009 to our hated rival, but the winner also earns a spot in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil. The Gold Cup is a must win and it starts with Canada. Watch parties like this are crucial for AO Akron throughout the tournament, so please stop by, bring someone new, bring a non-soccer fan, and we'll have them hooked. Sharing with new fans helps with uniting and growing the game we love so much in our community. So join us and beat to the drum at Kevin O'Bryan's Pub for all matches starting with the Friendly versus Spain. When I say "beat to the drum", I should explain, if you have rhythm, you can beat on the AO Akron Drum. USA vs Spain: Kickoff is at 4:30pm but the party starts an hour early. Between 4-5pm meet players from the Akron Summit Assault FC Team. Throughout the match we'll be raffling off Official Akron Summit Assault and American Outlaws Gear, along with Kevin O'Bryan's Pub and Ido Grill Gift Certificates. Its going to be a smashing time and everyone is welcome. Kevin O'Bryan's Pub 1761 S. Main St. Akron, OH 44301 CONCACAF Gold Cup Schedule AO Akron - Gold Cup Event Page ***Stay tuned for details, but we'll be having a screening for the film Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story in the Akron area soon Check out the trailer - Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story Looks to be a remarkable film, a story about a goal and never giving up. I'm sure you're well aware of Jay's story traveling across the pond to Europe, sleeping in attics, starting in the EPL, and winding up starting for the US National Team.
