  1. Porter discusses plans as US U-23 coach from Soccer By Ives
  2. Klinsmann Talks about Caleb Porter and Tab Ramos
  3. Its Official........ US Soccer Names Caleb Porter Head Coach of US U-23 MNT
  4. I believe it would just be for 1 year. The US U-23 need to qualify for the 2012 Olympics first. Qualification will begin in March 2012 somewhere in the United States in a 8 team CONCACAF tournament. Top two teams qualify for the 2012 Olympics which begin play July 27th.I don't see Porter needing to leave for this. He was the assistant coach with the US U-18's the past few summers, but I'm sure this will take up much more of his offseason schedule.
  5. Yes, but nothing has been confirmed yet, just a tweet from Fernando Clavijo (former player and Colorado Rapids coach) which has now been deleted. @SoccerByIves VERY interesting. RT @fclavijo: Caleb Porter next coach of the Olimpic US team (U23), and Tabare Ramos Coach of the US U20....
  6. Its a loss, Akron did not look good, we're not in sync, no flow, it looks rough and forced. We should've won in the first 90 minutes, no excuses. We're not the team from last season and our team needs us more than ever. This is the time to step up and support and chant your team on to victory. Buffalo on the road is not a option for most of us, but Bowling Green at home is. If you're not a AK-Rowdy member or if you are, all ages, show up at Lot 9, and lets take this to the next level. Beer, food, and rukus! Tailgate Wed. 10/26 as early as 5pm We shall not lose again. Go Zips!
  7. As some of you know UConn was upset by West Virginia, doesn't matter so much now. We need to win games. Lets focus on the schedule on task and let everything else work out.
  8. New coaches poll is out #4 Akron Kind of expected with Creighton losing, although UNC loss last night will need to wait until next week
  9. Those not driving to Ann Arbor, Anyone getting out to watch the Michigan match tomorrow on Big Ten Network?I'm probably going to head to Manny's Pub
  10. The thing I love most about Tommy is that Porter has received a lot of criticism (mostly from elsewhere, not us) about kinda telling players they should leave in order to make way for new freshmen, transfers, and internationals, but Tommy is an example of paying your dues and working hard and going from not playing much to breaking into the starting XI. I am happy for him.I think the change in personnel was to get Tommy and Luke in the starting line up together, something which we had not yet seen. It seemed to work well and we definitely had a more aggressive attack tonight, however I have to wonder if Porter just knew that Hartwick wasn't going to pose much of a threat offensively and that's why he didn't mind not playing our destroyer tonight.Watching Schmitt at Akron and with the Summit Assault this past year, he's impressed me. Works hard and runs at 150%. In perfect form right now. Gotta love it.Akron still seems to make so many mistakes passing the ball, so many easy give aways in the midfield. I've been holding back on this issue and seems to be my only issue with this current squad. Yes, I'm sure its due to so many young players and new teammates. But I'm concerned as we get deeper in the schedule. Correct the passing mistakes IMO and we're #1.Meves.......catch the damn ball! Easily could've risked a draw. I don't know how many breaks this kid is going to get. I hope it lasts forever. Does he have a 4 leaf clover in his pocket?Hartwick, small squad, first team this year I've seen live where we might of had the height advantage. 11-12 corners, gotta win those. Every corner should be going towards the head of Mattocks, he is our tallest leaper.Hartwick had their chances tonight, not a strong team, but it could've easily been 1-1. But we got the 2-0 win, we move on.
  11. Maryland set an attendance record vs Duke. 7,957
  12. Are there any substitution retrictions in college soccer?? I thought the rules were similar to international rules. Nope, unlimited substitutions. However, a player cannot re-enter a game in the same half that he left in. EDIT: No re-entry in the first half - One re-entry in the second half I wish I knew for sure -- I thought it was the opposite -- no re-entry for second half. Can someone find the actual rules on line? -- I've looked and can't find. If you start second half you can be subbed out and come back in. If you sub in in second half and then come out you are finished for the game. No. You are allowed one RE-ENTRY in the second half. You can come in at any point, exit, and re-enter. You don't have to start the second half. Anyone can then enter in the OT period, but you cannot re-enter either time. Well we know for sure that it isn't NO reentry in the second half, since Barson came out and then went back in last night. Actually, there are some technicalities to the rule related to an injury. A players whose injury was caused by opposing player who was cautioned or ejected in conjunction with the injury may be substituted and re-enter. Neither the injured player nor the substitute shall be charged with a substitution. So it is possible to have two re-entries in the second half or one re-entry in the first half. Same goes for a player who has a bleeding injury, blood on the uniform or signs of a concussion. Neither will be charged with a substitution. However, if the injured player replaces a player other than the substitute, that player shall be charged with a substitution. I don't think Barson's injury would have fallen into any of these categories, unless he was bleeding. I couldn't see from where I was standing. I don't recall seeing a Penn State player receive a caution either, just a foul. EDIT: I just noticed ZipItUpNow posted the rule book in another thread below. A good read on the substitution rules.

  14. One thing that was annoying last night was the amount of substitutions Penn State used. I know it was due to the red card, but this might of been partly the reason our boys couldn't take over the game down the stretch in the second half being up a man. Penn State used 17 different players in 19 substitution situations. (3 before the Red card). Akron made 2 substitutions (1 due to Barson's injury for 5 minutes). So in reality Akron would've only used 1 sub. Similar matches were Cal Northridge and Cal Poly(lots of subs used) Just goes to show Porter prepares and develops his players for the next level.
  15. Cal Poly lost to Cal Northridge 2-0 tonight Cal Northridge beat Fullerton 3-0 earlier this season
  16. Statistically... you compare the first 5 games last year to the first 5 games this year ….or the average for ALL the games last year to ALL the games this year. Your analysis is flawed....but it probably does not make any difference. It does look like you are manipulating the data for your argument. FYI Here is a question for you. Do you think that the Zips football team would play in front of 66% capacity if they were the defending national champions?? The Soccer team did just that last night. ANSWER: No, odds of hitting 66% are small I'm not making any argument here in this thread, just showing the numbers. Hard to see how they're manipulated when this is all we have to compare with. You have the first 5 home games this year vs first 5 last year, then you have overall. All the data is given so you can make your own statistics if this boggles your mind. If you take only seating into account, Akron soccer is bringing in over 100% attendance for each game. Akron football will never win more than 2 games in a season with Ianello as the coach so why play what if's? Akron Football averaged 16,132 the year after they won the MAC championship and went to the Motor City Bowl. That is only 49% of the Rubber Bowl capacity for that year. BTW your question is flawed. You asked if Akron football would play in front of 66% capacity if they were the defending national champions. They would have to play in front of exactly 66% for the answer to be a yes. Whether they played in front of 80% or 50% wouldn't matter because exactly 66% is what you asked. It is easier to give a no answer given the odds of hitting exactly 66%. LOL You spent 76 words to make that argument about 66%. There were 13 home games (in Akron) last year. No argument in THIS TREAD?? How would one know?? You have been on this attendance crusade all season. Please don't put a list of games up and lots of data, averages and year over year increases if you ARE NOT using it to prove your point. If you expect me to do the math...let me know. You already did......you added up the words of the last argument. LOL Season attendance has grown, soccer is growing. What's not to like about these numbers?
  17. It was nice meeting you finally. Next time, a drink on me. I'm over the tough loss, looking forward to rebounding this Saturday.
  18. Teal Bunbury Aiming to Impress with a mention of Coach Porter. I'd like to see Bunbury can get some playing time in the upcoming USMNT friendlies this weekend
  19. I'll be at Manny's Pub watching the match with some others. It will be on the televisions there. I'm sure the AK-Rowdies are going somewhere to watch the match, maybe Tap House, but I haven't seen any announcements. If you're near Manny's, stop in and have a few drinks. Go Zips!
  20. A late equalizer for Bunbury tonight versus San Jose, less than 30 seconds after Wondo placed one in the back of the net for San Jose. Game ended 1-1. Goal #8 on the season for Bunbury
  21. Its going to be a slaughter! 3 goals in 30 minutes.
  22. the problem with soccer stats is that they don't keep stats for things like preventing shots on goals. Meves is really good and with a little leg strength, could find himself playing in the MLS. His stats for USL Chicago Fire: SOG - 38 GA - 3 Saves - 35 GAA - .426 SO - 5 He saved 92% of the shots on goal. http://www.uslsoccer.com/teams/2011/22315.html#STATS I remember the Chicago Fire PDL got kicked out of the US Open Cup on a 3-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City (the senior squad, not a PLD team) so if he really only had three goals against him all summer, that means all three came from a professional team. Those regular season stats don't include the US Open Cup. Someone told me Porter requests PKs never to be recorded for or against. Did anyone notice in the match with Cal Poly, Caldwell's PK was not in the Zips highlight video, only the celebration afterwards.
  23. Teal Bunbury called back up for another run at the USMNT. 22 Player Roster for upcoming Honduras and Ecuador Friendlies Oct. 8th vs Honduras 6pm (FSC) Oct. 11th vs Ecuador 7pm (ESPN2)
  24. by the way, Porter would tell the Rowdies if we were bad. Tonight he said this " ‎"One of the best I've seen here." So not sure what you all were hearing...we do have some new chants...maybe you heard those for the majority of it. Anyways, there's still improvement that could be done...If pro supporters can get it done, so can we.. I can pick up on any chant, I'm familiar with most soccer chants in the US and the world. But for the average or new soccer fan. They have no clue. Improvements would be great, but I'm saying most great supporter groups have CAPO's to direct the supporter groups. Just a thought. Didn't mean to reply to your post Crew8. But since I did, ill mention something. It's a good idea...could go different routes with that...my post was basically to everyone out there... Haha No problem, just take a look at this 6 year old Celtic FC CAPO. A favorite of mine. Took me awhile to dig it up off the internet.
