  1. Why are we considering John Carrol?? That is an exhibtion game. What am I missing??
  2. This is the list we should be using to find future opponents...at least for the next few years. Pick BCS schools that make the list and the non-BCS D1 schools. We need to get some positive feelings and a winning attitude developed. Over scheduling is hurting our growth.
  3. Man... I wrote something almost word for word and had to trash it because you beat me to it. The only thing written so far that is concerning is that he may be locking onto recievers. I want to see the next game in person before I make any definitve opinions.
  4. +1Disappointed in Saturday's results. Progress and Improvement must happen soon. We need to stop scheduling the top BCS schools. They do not help in getting the team ready for MAC play. We should schedule other Non-BCS and lower BCS schools. Urban Meyer's comment made me start thinking about this and I do not think there are many advantages other than recruiting. And I think recuiting would be better if we won games. Let's stick with the NC State's of the world.
  5. He is working part time. This job requires 11 days of work a year. His presence will make zero difference. I'm positive I could do as good a job (from my couch), if not better than his current position. He is in football, like I am in football. He couldn't be in any lower position at this point. The water boy has more impact on a game than he does. He got exactly what he deserved, although it took too long. Karma is a b@tch.I don't think you are looking at the whole picture. He knew he would be facing an eventual suspension and would be unemployable for a real job with that hanging over his head. I think he took a "job" with a friend to burn off that suspension making real future jobs possible. He may not be someone who is admirable...but he will be joining a league where he looks like an angel compared to some (see Billichek). I think it was an astute and strategic move. I doubt he will coach again in D1. My guess is that he coaches in the NFL or tries to repair his image at a school like BW. Depends on what passion burns inside him.
  6. I am sure the guys in charge of the software will love to hear from us about proposed modifications But here are two from me: 1. I tried to highlight a section from a post and click reply. I was hoping only the highlighted part would be drawn into my post. This would be a nice feature. But...I am obviously doing something wrong so I apologize now if there is something that works that I am not aware of. I plan to play with the software on Sunday to see if I can figure it out (baby tomorrow so I will be out of action for a while)2. I like DIG suggestion but one other may work too. Rather than have each post listed in entirety...collapse all but the last. If someone wanted to see the collapsed post...they could just double click it and would either expand the post or take them to the original post.OK That is my 2 cents. ZNO does a good job with the software. I do think it is very user friendly.
  7. LOL I a NOT a James fan. But I really don't care what he calls us as long as he keeps giving us good publicity. Keep tweeting
  8. I have tried to figure out how to just use part of a post but have not yet been successful. I will give it some time later and hopefully clean things up a bit. Sorry for all the clutter and thanks for the advice.
  9. I think the real question for UA is: is it better to recruit middle level talent at big schools or percieved higher level talent from smaller schools. It is my opinion....that we should always take a chance on a few guys each year from smaller schools. It will help us build a profile of the type smaller school guys that are successful and will help us sell other smaller school guys we may target in the future.
  10. This looks like a pretty challenging schedule to me. Outside of the major programs, there is YSU so the fans will have fun. CSU is a good program and it should be a fun game to attend. Detroit has history as a good program. We have MTSU for a trip down memory lane in Tennessee. We all know what VCU can do. WVU is a good program....too bad it is on a weeknight so not many will get to see the Zips play in a really good college arena. Three road games in a row to start January will provide a good challenge as well."Challenging" is the word I would use to describe this schedule. Some say it isn't any good because of Hiram and JC...everyone plays those types of cupcakes and two games don't make an entire schedule weak.I wasn't speaking so much to the overall schedule (which looks fine and actually stronger than you've had in a while), as much as I was referring to scheduling non D1's in the regular season. That is not something everyone does. D1 transitional teams do that and weaker D1 squads, of which the Zips are neither. I'm sure Dambrot could have gotten a sub 300+ RPI squad that the Zips could beat on just as easily. It's one thing to want national recognition and respect for your achievements, but IMO you set yourself up to be disrespected when you play squads like that. Your home slate stinks...but there are some very good road games on the slate and an opportunity to build a decent resume should you win them.Marian?? http://www.butlersports.com/sports/m-baskbl/2010-11/scheduleI would prefer we play cupcakes like Gonzaga does to get into rythem http://www.gozags.com/SportSelect.dbml?SPS...p;Q_SEASON=2010 Most good teams play cupcakes to get the rhythm going, lose the jitters of first game and to correct flaws without jeopardizing the season. I think KD likes to schedule local teams because it is good for their program and good for us. He is from the area and is big on loyalty....I can't find fault with his approach. So...we schedule a lower level local team every year. It does not affect our RPI so who cares.
  11. Wish I could say you should buy a 12 pack....but I think you will at least need a 6 pack.
  12. I loved Bum because "he couldn't kick the door in!".... here's another one...."How do you win? By getting average players to play good and good players to play great. That's how you win."Your quotes in the video Keener, same, but different. That is that is how I remembered it. Bum said of Don Shula "he can beat yorn with hisin and turn around and beat hisin with yorn". I have always been a Dolpin fan..from 1st win long long aga. Bum was graet even though he had te Dolphins # in the big games. Then again...he had the best player too.Did I just detect someone while posting on Zips Nation? Come on Doug. Saturday is still a long way off. But, if you were able to start early, kudos to you Sorry I work on my PC/Internet at night and did not get to bed till 5:45 and then had to get up at 9 to take my wife to Dr. (birth of 2nd daughter this Saturday hopefully.). I could give lots more excuses but I will just admit it was a poor post lol Would have preferred the drinking excuse ;-)
  13. Which RB are you referring to?? Chisolm is not blazing fast. Strong, lightening quick for his size, great reading blocking and with an incredible burst. But not blazing fast. If healthy...Alexander may give us a dynamic tandem and he may be who you are referring to. either way...I agree we need to get the ground game going if we are to win.
  14. The offseason projections? That's nothing more than a way optimistic opinion of a couple of dreaming Zips fans. Don't you go pinning that statement up in the VCU locker room to inspire your team to bring their top game to Akron to put these pretenders in their place. The Zips will be lucky to do a little better than last season, so you can tell your team to relax and consider the trip to Akron to be a vacation. LOL you must be like skip, BG and some others. Vacation in Akron lol Who would ever consider it!!!
  15. I loved Bum because "he couldn't kick the door in!".... here's another one...."How do you win? By getting average players to play good and good players to play great. 16. It was my understanding the JC was an exhibition and Hiram for real. That seems the norm for KD as he likes to get the season off to a good start ... get the jitters out of the way with a win. Other schools schedule sacrificial lambs on opening day.I understand that the Hiram game actually counts while the JC game is just an exhibition. What I'm saying is that we should pick one of these types of teams for an exhibition, and not schedule another one of them for a "real" game. These types of games add nothing in terms of RPI, don't really give us much of a chance to evaluate our own talent against another decent opponent, and draw peanuts for fans. I just don't see what the benefit in it is.It is my understanding that while the game will not help the RPI...it will not hurt either as only D1 games are in the formula. I see no harm in scheduling these games. but one is more than enough.
  17. I don't disagree with a single word. That last sentence scares the crap out of me though, because it could be true. 2018 is a long way away.I too can't take another building process, so I'm hoping that Coach I gets things turned around...and soon. There are always reasons why a team is bad. We'll know a lot more about this team after Saturday. Jesus....2018....how depressing.2018 works only if ICoach fails miserably and we do not replace him before the end of his contract. I doubt that he would be given more than 3 years if he is losing 8-10 games in year 3. If so...2013+3 would be 2016 at the outside. Not that that would be good...but you are taking the worst case scenario as the most likely. There is a movie you should all watch. Kelly's HeroesI feel like Oddball in the movie... Oddball: Always with the negative waves Mikey, always with the negative waves. I like this line better... Oddball: Crazy... I mean like, so many positive waves... maybe we can't lose, you're on!
  18. I often am amazed that there are not more fatal accidents involving sports teams. Only Marshall. Today...a Russian plane crashes with 45 on board and all but 2 are killed. It was one of Russia's best teams (or so the preliminary report says). My question goes out to the former athletes on the board who have traveled for games. Was most of the travel by bus??? Have you heard of any close calls and did you worry about flight/travel safety. It really is amazing that travel has been so incident free. Is that due to something the schools/teams do or is it just lack of reporting and there are many issues that we are unaware of??http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/europe/09/07....html?hpt=hp_t1 I know this may be a hockey story...but all teams travel.
  19. It was my understanding the JC was an exhibition and Hiram for real. That seems the norm for KD as he likes to get the season off to a good start ... get the jitters out of the way with a win. Other schools schedule sacrificial lambs on opening day.
  20. OH Ok. Then they did not play a Div 1-AA school
  21. Best case scenario?? He goes 11-1 next year and leaves for greener pastures and one of his assistants takes over. I know I know....you like none of them now. But if he goes 11-1 you will like some. Especially since many think ICoach is not a good coach...someone must be responsible. I won't guess because this is already enough of a fantasy
  22. The one win was against the Div 1-AA team?? Not so impressive.
  23. Did you mean that you can't hear the questions?? I agree with that.I think ICoach is more comfortable this year and much more at ease this year. Truthfully, I could never understand how he could be such a good recruiter based on how he handled interviews last year. This year he is more confident and at ease...hopefully that is more his true personality. Also...I hope it is a sign that he is growing and improving too.
  24. Although I like the spread offense too, I am not opposed to using the pro/multiple set. I think for the pro set to be successful you need a mobile QB and/or a QB who is intelligent enough to make multiple reads and get the ball to the correct guy. I guess that is why I am more optimistic than most here. The coaching staff understands what is needed to be successful and went out and recruited guys that fit that system....CM8 fits the job description. He is mobile, fearless and willing to take some risks to move the ball. I like that he is a fiery competitor and willing to get into someone’s face. If he can perform up to the standards expected of him...others will step up their game as well.Call me foolish...but I think the Zips will compete this weekend against Temple and have a chance to pull off an upset win. It will come down to the last few minutes and I am hoping the defense will be the difference. I really don't want to rely on making a FG to win the game....do not yet have confidence in our kickers.
  25. By "stuff," you mean office gossip, right? In the last large company I worked for, I attended high-level planning meetings on a routine basis. After the meetings, I'd hear "stuff" from people who weren't in the meetings, but knew a friend of someone who worked in the same department as someone who was in the meeting. The "stuff" they passed on through the grapevine was inevitably distorted to suit someone's agenda. UA is similar to a large company. There are many departments full of many different people with many different agendas. In some cases you have some people who for, whatever reason, don't like other people and want to see them fail. They gladly pass on negative "stuff" about the person they don't like, and if nothing negative enough is available, they'll twist what's available into something negative. I have no doubt that there are UA employees who don't like Tom Wistrcill, Rob Ianello, and any number of other people on the staff. Maybe the feeling is mutual. Who really knows the truth? Certainly not those who are tuned into a single channel of negative gossip. Tuning into another channel might result in totally opposite "stuff." So when you say "we can all basically say that this hiring was a favor by Tom Wistrcill to his buddy Rob Ianello," you are dead wrong. I am not included in that "we," and I'm pretty sure there are others here who don't want to be included in your all-inclusive "we can all." If you applied a little independent thinking to your gossip channel, you might ask why Wistrcill would risk his own career on deliberately hiring an uncompetitive football coach when football is the biggest program at UA. Why didn't he get rid of Caleb Porter and bring in one of his loser soccer coach buddies? Why didn't he get rid of Keith Dambrot and bring in one of his loser basketball coach buddies? Why did he just bring in a new baseball coach who everyone seems to think is a winner? You know, there are real, experienced adults on this forum who have been around the world many times and heard all this "stuff" a thousand times over. You can pretend all you want that all the "stuff" you hear is real. But everyone with any real life experience knows it's just office gossip until confirmed by a credible source who doesn't have their own personal agenda. Listen, I have no problem with anyone criticizing Ianello, Wistrcill, or anyone else for what you think they might not be doing right. There are plenty of reasons for criticizing everyone, including me, you, and the man in the moon. We're all imperfect and we're all open to legitimate criticism. But when you go beyond legitimate criticism and pick sides in a fight in which you don't know all the facts, you're on your own. There's no "we" about it. + 1
