  1. Actually, under ncaa rules, self reporting is one of the best ways of not receiving any harsh sanctions. Cleaning house is the second best way. Are we really to pat osu on the back for self reporting everything? Wouldn't it be better if they just didn't break the rules in the first place? Sounds like their paranoia is justified. Like I said, when a culture is established, it is hard to change the culture. Self reporting is what they are required to do. Now that Tressel is gone, they can do the hard work of breaking the culture he created going back to when he was receiving written performance evaluations from his boss ten years ago for unacceptable compliance performance. It's going to be extremely hard work, but someone has to so it. I'd like to take this opportunity to wish the Zips well in their scrimmage against tosu tomorrow. Have the money wired directly to your account, don't take check...someone will probably lose it during the two hour trip from columbus to Akron. I believe ALL rules should be followed. But not all rules carry the same weight. Does everybody come to a complete stop at stop signs?? Does everyone use their turn signal making every turn and lane change?? Should those violation carry the same penalty as killing someone?? Riddle me this Batman....you now feel all rules should be followed or there should be penalties?? I thought you were the guy who did not have a problem with illegal’s breaking our immigration laws. Glad to know you got on-board.
  2. I do not think I am being to harsh. Tressel quit weeks ago. If he was really interested in this debate...he could have had then. 3 days prior to the season to start a debate on whether to replace the coach is inapropriate and PATHETIC.
  3. CK If you are really interested in making this forum better....you should start deleting this kind of radical post designed to cause a caustic debate.
  4. Zach...in all honesty, you lost me by creating this thread. Where in the past I thought you were a bright, passionate kid..even if a bit of an oddball...the respect I had for you has disintegrated. I am going to do what DIG recommended and block your posts. Goodbye
  5. I'm not interested in the Zips being an opening act for a high school football game. Not many fans would be interested in sitting in The Big Dialer for six hours watching football. I will count as one who will not be there.
  6. I was not aware that was primary goal of college athletics. Try reading it again. You once said to me "it is not all about you" (or something close). You know then it is NOT all about you..as a fan or otherwise.
  7. That's an excellent idea. Or the Hoban-St. V. game. Or Walsh-St. V. Don't charge the schools rental and they'll be all over it. The more the better. An Akron area vs a non-Akron are or 2 Akron area schools. They could get free advertising in the local teams stadiums leading up to the game.
  8. I was not aware that was primary goal of college athletics. If it is....you are probably right.
  9. I can assure ALL Zips fans that Barley House is behind you 100%. ALL staff will be wearing new custom Akron/Barley House shirts during ALL Zips games. I just posted the shirt on the Akron Barley House Facebook account. Our beer special for Saturday game days are 22 oz Zips keep the cup (Bud or Bud Light) for only $3.25! I would be more than pleased to see the place taken over by Zips fans EVERY Saturday (just like the December Soccer games). Your voices were heard in the past and we made the proper changes. Let's start this season off the right way with a HUGE party in support of YOUR Akron Zips!!!! -Ryan Hartzell -Barley House Owner I'm not buying it!!! I will stop by and give him a shot. It will be easy to walk out if it not true.
  10. I think they should have some games where they partner with a community. Play the Massillon-Firestone game at the Info after the Zips-Ohio game. One ticket gets you both games. Maybe an hour between games....where the Zips and the 2 HS bands could entertain. Attendance would increase, and more people would get to see the Zips, the university and the Info. I think we have to keep maintain the prices but there are ways to discount. Family, groups multiple games etc... My experience with the ticket department has been great. They are friendly and seem to be genuinely interested in me and their product. We really need for the football team to start winning. I think the marketing department is overly focused on football because of the attendance requirement. The basketball team may suffer a little because they are burned out or still working on football issues that they may miss (or are late) for opportunities.
  11. I like how he has never critisized his HS coach for his problems. The coach could have handled it differently without blackballing CM8. But he took responsibility and moved on. He will be a better person for it. And I think UofA will benefit from it as well. I really like this guys demeanor. I also believe that winners find ways to win....and CM8 has won big at every stop.
  12. To your 1st point, I am disapppointed not to see Tyler in the lineup somewhere as well. But how do we know the staff isn't planning a little wildcat for him? That's not something you'd put on the depth chart or discuss in a presser. I thought this staff ran a pretty nice wildcat with Gary Pride last year. To your 2nd, I didn't realize how the years were passing you by Or...that someone who has not yet played is considered the most explosive player on the team. Given that he is a freshman and an ICoach recruit...I would think he was not any good. (at least per Zach) Zach...do you read you prior post to see if what you write makes sense or is contradictory?? The only thing that is consistent is that you don't like ICoach
  13. A good record helps in recruiting, but its really not the key. If that were the case, no losing team would ever get a good recruiting class. Also, if winning was the thing that mattered most, why didn't we build off of our MAC championship and bowl game? I have always agreed with hockey coach Herb Brooks mindset of you don't just look for the best ones, you look for the right ones. We need to give Ianello more than one season before we start saying he was a bad hire. Let's see what happens now that the guys know his system and expectations. + 1
  14. My wife is scheduled to give birth on the day of the Temple game. She will kill me if I miss that event for a footbal game (Zach....please take notes. Football less important the giving birth) If you find the beer, it will have to be the following game. Unless of course...my new daughter decides to come early. I really appreciate the offer. Looking forward to sharing a beer (not the same bottle tho).
  15. Right here is one (THE?) reason that when I read the threads about moving the the Big East, I generally have the "careful what you wish for," thought. I'd rather stay in the MAC and dominate this conference every year. We'd have consistent, perhaps annual, Top 25 rankings, even if no real chance at winning the national championship. But that's fine w/ me. My grand vision for Akron football is lower-eschelon Top 25. And we'd be packing the Info & everyone would know who/where Akron is (even though I guess LBJ's already accomplished this one). Become the Boise State of the MAC. Boise State translated their success into moving to a better conference. Akron needs to get to C-USA if your "grand vision" is to happen. I don't have anything against C-USA, except for greater travel time/expense. But we don't need C-USA for lower-tier Top 25 rankings. We just need to win out in the MAC. Exactly !!! MAC # 10 & 23 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_NCAA_Div...football_season
  16. If I have followed the debate....it seems that the biggest complaint with the NCAA is that it is "corrupt". I think it is very silly to think closing the NCAA and letting a new group arise would assure there would be no corruption. The only way to assure that there is no corruption is to remove the money. And that ain't happening. Fixing the problem seems the most logical course of action.
  17. Ditching it is the better option. It is broken beyond repair. A new set of individuals with a new set of conflicting agendas is exactly what the ncaa needs. There are no new ideas and bringing in new people is the answer. Everyone at the ncaa headquarters should be dismissed from their jobs and the windows boarded shut because they won't listen to new ideas. A couple of weeks ago, I spent some time with a D-1 athletic director. I ran my idea of a new division and this person told me it would never happen because the I-AA schools would never go for it. They don't want to appear second class. The real concern for all non-bcs teams is the day the bcs schools leave the ncaa. It is getting a lot of attention right now and may be closer than anyone wants to admit. The writing is on the walls at the ncaa and the Titanic is taking on water. When that happens, there is no basketball tournament. When there is no basketball tournament, there is no ncaa as it is 75%+ of their revenues. The ncaa is a dying institution. It's dying because it isn't needed. Again Dave, we can stay on the Titanic and wait for another boat to come by or we can get on a lifeboat. Which do you want? You are welcome on my lifeboat if you wish...don't stay too long though as the Titanic is taking on water quickly. You do realize the Titanic was the "new idea" of its day??? I bet lots of those people wish they had waited.
  18. Man...you ruined my day. GP1 is against big government?? So am I. Hard to believe we would have the same views on something so important. (I am am the "Blue Dog" or "Reagan" Democrat....more independant really)
  19. yea yea yea. GP1 says a lot of things. I think you need to pay attention to the small print at the bottom of his posts. Actually... I am good with Liberals and Libertarians. If you fully embrace democracy...you want multiple view points. I have a problem with people who want to silence the opposition. In GP1s case...he is either the biggest hypocrite or he is playing that “you want it to be one way. But it’s the other way” stuff again. He obviously is playing “Howard Stern” and making outrageous statements to instigate a free for all debate. BTW. Neither Progressive Liberal nor Libertarian policies are good for the country. COMPROMISE...a concept lost in our society. The answer is always somewhere in the middle. Focusing on the 3 "C"s would make life better in all walks of life. Communicate, Cooperate, Compromise
  20. So let me get this straight. The nfl is now going to punish players for breaking the moronic ncaa rules. Doesn't that make the nfl as stupid as the ncaa? Typical response from a progressive liberal. If you don't like the rules/laws....just ignore them. Illegal immigration....ignore. Paying taxes....ignore. Planned parenthood consulting minors....ignore. Election laws....ignore. Constitution….ignore So...yea. It may make them stupid...but law abiding citizens and organizations. How can someone label a coach who did not follow rules he thought insignificant and stupid as a "cheater" and give others a hall pass for violating rules/laws. maybe we need to run all rules and laws by the Great One first.
  21. Zach, Sorry if you took my post as a personal attach towards you...was not meant to be. I do like you and although I have no proof...I think you are bright. But lol some of your post make me question that. I don’t mean to imply that you are stupid...or even average. You have my apology. I don't want to answer your questions because I don't want to have a back and forth debate with you. Please don't take that personally. I don't want a back and forth debate with anyone. One observation... when you post things about ICoach...one could read them as very personal attacks. Wouldn't your complaint be something like the "kettle calling the pot black" sort of thing?? I believe the Zips will have a better season than most expect. It will be interesting to see how the big ICoach detractors will handle that. One thing for sure...we will find out soon enough. Doug
  22. He wouldn't have had that problem at Akron. Last season when Fickell should have came in, Nicely was the returning QB. It's not like at OSU where you lost a three-year starter with no clear #2 to take over. LOL THAT is your answer?? Would Fickell have recruited Moore to come in and take over? Or are you working under the false assumption that this would have been his first year as our coach? I think I am working under the false assumption that you are actually very bright. I know you are passionate about the Zips, young and use the facts to support your predetermined conclusions. You are starting to make me question my first assumption.
  23. He wouldn't have had that problem at Akron. Last season when Fickell should have came in, Nicely was the returning QB. It's not like at OSU where you lost a three-year starter with no clear #2 to take over. LOL THAT is your answer??
  24. Way to generalize. Can I be in "pro-win", and left out of your other two groups? I thought you started the "short of stature" group?? Yes...you can join the "just win" group. Lots of us here too. BTW...Way to deflect
  25. http://www.cleveland.com/osu/index.ssf/201...ke_fickell.html Zach....what do you think of your guy now??? Probably would have been better to make those rookie HC mistakes at a program like .... Akron??
