  1. Central has hired Keno Davis. He should really perk up the Chips.
  2. NU doesn't have the beef to push Zeke around. He will get his points, but I think he will will be a force on D!
  3. I`ve been to Evanston to see them play one game a year the last several years (My son is a NU grad and season ticket holder for FB & BB}. I watched them take the Buckeyes down to the wire last year and another close loss to Purdue this year. They will drive you crazy with back door lay ups. They seem to get their opponants to play down to their level. Sullenger particularly amazed me last year. He had a couple of bursts where he showed himself, but he seemed to coast through most of the game. Although I have not seen the Zips in person, I think we have the athleticism to take it to NU offensivly. We just can`t let them lull us to sleep. Defensivly, we just need to play 35 seconds every time down the court. They have a lot of guys who can handle the ball, but we have the guys to keep up with them. Our bench will help us keep fresh legs in the game. Zeke could have a monster night. I don't think they will have an answer for him on D, and he could control the paint on D as well covering up some of those back door cuts. I predict that NU scores 55. If we "show up" for the game and play 40 min., Zips score 80. If we allow NU to lull us to sleep, Zips 50.
  4. That sounds like the Lone Star frat boys. Maybe they changed their name to protecrt the inocent.
  5. I don't remember Nippy's Nook. I do remember Demareno's that was right across the street from the Info on Exchange.
  6. You guys are pups! I remember fall camp at Buchtel field where we slept on cots in the garage and storage rooms the first 2 weeks of Sept. for 2 a days before classes started. Dorms? Yeah, we had one back then.

Speed and quickness is a real asset at DE too. We have a plethera of QB's; where will some of them end up? Iowa has recruited many QB's that ended up playing differant positions. One all Big Ten pro DE comes to mind.
  8. How will coaching make a difference? Eliminate stupid coaching mistakes like kicking off to start both halves, going for 2 pt conversions when 1 is clearly called for. Offensive play calling was not only stupid but also predictable. How many times did you say "Don't run that play", only to see them do just that and get stuffed? So many 3 and outs put the defense in bad field position. A little coaching creativity with game planning, play calling, and individual player utilization will make a world of difference! Bad field position aside, the defense lacked preperation. How many TD's did we give up where the DB was no where to be found. I blame that on coaching. Lack of a pass rush? Creative coaching could have played "games" with the front 4 and LB's more. Kick coverage? Did we always have the right people in there? I wouldn't utilize my star LB or starting FB, but the right mix of speed and grit needs to be in there. Coach B took a demoralize Auburn team with nothing to play for except pride, and brought them together to win 20 in a row! We have a group of young men who I'm betting are pumped to have a new beginning. Look for our new staff to bring out the best in them. That could be enough for 6 or 7 wins , but I'll be happy with 4 or 5 in '12.
  9. I seem to remember that Grice has been bulking up. I don't think he will fit our runnng back needs; however he may be just the ticket to fill a LB need. I do think we will see some people at new positions in the spring, and I expect that we will also be pleasantly surprised at the talent that we have. We will be a bit thin, but the half dozen early enrollees will help.
  10. We are straying a bit, but I wonder what could be done to get people out to the spring game? We could sell some fall tickets, and get some exposure to some prospects and their coaches.
  11. What about our big red shirt Cody Grice. Both of them could make a difference at LB.
  12. Better play calling would have helped the offense. we were far too predictable. We had so many 3 and outs that put the D in a hole and put them baxk on the field as well. If Oren W had the talent to start 3 yrs at M State, I presume the talent was there. I think others around him looked OK too. Creativity is not limited to the O. I know many of you here are protecting yourselves from a let down, but I will be surprised If we don't win 5 or 6 games next year. The "Process" lead to complacency. "Dag nab it" win enthusiasm will bring out the best in what we have!
  13. From what I saw, poor game planning and preperation were key to lack of success. In game play calling was (you fill in the blank; I can't ). Just think how many times you sat there and told yourself "don't run that play", only to see them do just that. The play calls were not only stupid, but totally predictable! On defense we gave up so many big plays not because our guy got beat, but because they were no where to be found. What did they work on all week? I firmly beleive that with the coaching staff that coach B is putting together we will see much better results on the field NEXT year. On our guys giving up at the end of the season. These are not jr. high players. I think they have enough football sense to recognise the hopeless situation they were put in better than any of us. Pride will only take one so far.
  14. We had a Temple fan comment about having 40 or 50 red shirts over that last few years. I think that is very significant. We are bringing in HS kids and putting them up against men. Many of these kids would have been helped with a year to mature both physically and mentally. Right after a nice article about 2 area freshmen who will red shirt this year, I noticed that Cody Grice made a tackle against Temple. Was that special teams or LB? We need to get to the point where we can hold back half of our recruiting classes. I think this will particularlly help both off and def line play.
  15. Just downloaded Firefox 6.0 & I've got it. Thanks for the tip! Abreu has just scored 3 consecutive baskets. Zips all the way back to a 26-25 lead. I am computer stupid. How does one log in?
  16. I saw PN in person at last years opener against the "Orange". I know evauluating a player from TV coverage is not the best; however I did not see much improvement at the end of the season. I didn't see any leadership from PN. Even with victory within grasp against Miami, I didn't see the fire in PN. What I thought was most telling was the interview with the three bigs last week. It seems that "The Hillbilly" has already garnered great rapore with the team. Skills aside, this team needs someone to pull them together. And I believe that has to come from the players. It will be interesting to see who shows up this spring, but more importantly, who shows up next fall!
  17. I did'nt mean to beat a dead horse; I'm just fairly new to this site. Thanks to those who responded. Please don't be offended if I use Akron U. I mean no disrespect; I'm just an old fart. I will say that out here, in the corn fields, it doesn't make any difference what I use, Akron U, Zips, UA, AU, or spell it all out, no one knows who I'm talking about! When people were filling out their NCAA brackets, sports fans couldn't even tell you what state Akron was in! Sports anouncers couldn't even remember what conference we were in! What sports fan doesn't know where Butler or the Zags call home. As someone already stated, the Zips need to win. If we can consistantly become a thorn in the majors' back sides, I'll be happy. I don't care what they call us.
  18. Lew / Kareem example doesn't work for me. My first name is Kenneth, but I go by Mike. Many of my closest friends called me Ham. I sign my checks K. Michael ... We are talking nick names here, not name changes. I prefer Akron U ! Someone give me a cheer using "The University of Akron", one that would work. There are countless chants that could use Akron U. I guess one could just shorten it to Akron, but what's the dif? If it were disrespectful like CANT or Cowlumbus, those fans should be ofended.
  19. Why do some of you get so bent out of shape when anyone refers to Akron U? That's where I went to school! AU is golden!! Just refer to the Periodic Table.
  20. Thank you UA Fan!!! I'm sure that was easy for you, but it was beyound me. Now I wish I could change the post title; so more people could get a chuckle.
  21. I think I found the albums, but I have no clue how to upload a picture to them. I got an error message that suggested I look at help files. Where are they? By the time I figure this out no one will be interested in my photo! Can I email it to someone who knows what they are doing; so they could post the picture for me? ND.bmp
