  1. When the competition comes down a notch in games 3 & 4, I'll be ready to make a better judgement. Game 2 should be a total mismatch. I certainly wouldn't bench TW next week, but I would give Kato some meaningful reps. This game could build some confidence for the team to propel them to a great season.
  2. I don't think one can really grade performance from a TV broadcast, but I didn't think the Oline did as poorly as many think. First play was a quick off tackle for 9 yards. I don't recall that play being called again. Many of the run plays were zone blocking. PS D was loaded with quick that just over powered us. Their D line showed our guys some P5 moves that we just couldn't handle, but it was a bit disheartening to see them bull rush us into the QB. Next week won't be a good test. Lets give it a few more games before we grade these guys out. Our D seemed to be stuck on stopping the run. That may have been the best call. In the second half, I got the feeling that we were no longer trying to win. It seemed as though we were treating this as a scrimmage to work on some things. I haven't seen an injury report, but I thought I saw Brown getting nicked near the end of the game? I'm still thinking 2 and 2 entering MAC play.
  3. I have a players attitude. Zips win. For that to happen, we need to rush for more than 130, and get those 6 combined big D plays. I'm counting on PSU to come in with an attitude, and the Zips with a chip on their shoulders. The Lions will be looking ahead giving us a chance to stay with them. Once we taste success, we won't be denied.
  4. 30.5! Yep. I'll take the points!
  5. So we will have 5 upper class scholarship players with all freshmen bench. That didn't sink in for me until I saw Zip Watcher's updated roster. That looks like a mountain to climb.
  6. Did Jason Taylor have any stars? But that is beside the point. As evidenced by many of our guys success at the next level, we had some talent last year. We failed to have success because we didn't have a unit. That depth will come into play if we don't have someone to plug into a spot where injury strikes. I don't think there is enough talent difference to yield a blow out; however I know it will take a minor miracle for the Zips to win.
  7. Great article! My highest hope from this is the team chemistry that was projected. I got the impression that both sides of the ball were working together.
  8. I just noticed that the count down to Kickoff on gozips doesn't hit the mark. Is it just my computer?
  9. Full contact tomorrow? Maybe we will get a video report from GOZIPS,
  10. Bob Smith coached South High.
  11. Cycron, there may be other places with a great tailgating experience, but Ames is a happening place. Lot 9 is a really fun spot, but Ames would be Lot 9 X 1,000. I've been working on friends to make the trip with little success. Side trips like 15 mins to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, less than an hour to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, some great craft brewers raise an eyebrow, but no takers so far. Like I said, I'll try for a spot in lot 9(which is theoretically for season ticket holders that are generous donors), but if you can put together a sizable group, there are other lots that could work. There was some silly notion that alcohol would be prohibited, but that was either abandon or just ignored. They were charging $30 for first come single passes to Lot 9, but that's a bargain compared to Ames. c
  12. Right on Balsy! This reminded me when Burkhart reached out to the Kent stud after his season ending injury.
  13. Hello Pot! When I make my annual trip to Akron, It does amaze me that one can park anywhere down town for $1.25 all day. That is a good indicator of all the things going on in the metro. Cykron, I'll be making the trip to Akron as well. Tailgating at the Info? Except for some uninspired efforts, Tailgating is limited to Lot 9. I plan to pay the $30 to try to get a spot there. It's a pretty lively spot pregame, but nothing post game. By the way, a strong PK could almost put an extra point kick into lot 9! Great location.
  14. Balsy, I think you have it right. I hope Williams has lit a fire under some seats, but it should be done privately. If we see some changes this spring, I would like to change my prediction.
  15. It is a bit late to look for a new OC. I look for TB to take a big role on O.
  16. I'm no defensive genius, but I'm confident that I could stop Milwee's O. Milwee seems to lack any regard for his D. So many times when we needed a first down, Milwee continued to go for a home run. Unless Bowden takes more control of the O, I see us under performing there. I don't see any dramatic improvement for our D. Spring ball may reveal some hope there, but I still see our O being a drag there putting our D in a position to fail. I see 1 OOC win and 4 and 4 in MAC. At 5-7, I think Williams will demand some changes or just bring in a new HC. I sincerely hope I'm wrong and we do even better than '15.
  17. I played for Ellet in '61. We were members of the Metopolitan League. Larry played for Stow, also a member. Larry was a Jr that fall, and he went on to Syracuse, Orangemen. Other members at that time included Wadsworth, Norton, Talmadge, Springfield, Coventry, and Kent Roosevelt.
  18. Csonka (sp?) played for Stow.
  19. Matt Campbell has 3 JUCO's signed over the last week or so that will be enrolled for spring semester and out for spring practice. Just thought we might try to shore up some weak spots.
  20. Do we have any JUCO's or transfers enrolling to be here for spring practice? Lots of chatter on QB's! (but that seems to have lost focus)
  21. I had a few min to check on the game before I left last night. Went to video--no sound? Went to live stats--BlueJays 82 - Zips 70??!! When I checked back at 11PM live stats still had Sat's game! At least ESPN had the results.
  22. I would go back to our championship run that fell one game short against the Aces in Evansville.
  23. I've been looking forward to this game. I'll be in Omaha! Last time there, we had no answer for McDermot. I'm ever hopeful that this trip will be better. Akron 82 / Jays 77
  24. I was surprised to see Milwee on the sidelines in the second half. When he continued to go for the home run in the 1st qt, I wanted to reach through the TV and choke him myself. GO FOR A FIRST DOWN!! GET OUT OF THE HOLE!!! I don't know what goes on in practice, but when I watched the team warm up before the Miami game, they had Kato taking some snaps. Why? If they have no confidence in Hoyer, get someone else ready. Our D has come under a lot of fire this year, but I have to say our Offense was our worst Defense, particularly the first half. BG started their possessions near midfield (or inside the 5). There doesn't need to be any big announcement, but if I were TB, I would take over OC duties right now to try to salvage one more win. Loyalty is on thing. Masochism is another.
  25. Helloooooooo?
