  1. Don't get down on the guy for wanting to try a new sport. He will be fine.......I am sure if he was not going to play football he would play pickup basketball and there is the same chace of getting hurt doing that. I say if he wants to try go right ahead. I predict that if he does play he will be the starting DE sometime before next season ends.
  2. BuckZip you are correct. Rome was a great football player in highschool.
  3. Spring Football has started and here are some articles from gozips.com Article1 Spring Practice Starts Article2 Spring Practice 2 Article3 The Hitting Begins
  4. I believe you have to give Arthur a shot at QB......Plus it is sitll the first depth chart of the spring it will change many times before the Zips goto Purdue..... Pace was last as the SS last year but in nickel situations he will line up one on one with a WR. I believe Fuqa is a grades issue......Don't qoute me but I think that is it. He was a very good student in highschool.....I hope he hits the books and can be back in the fall. He will be a huge deep target at WR....... Give me a huge NG and I will take a 270 - 265 DE with speed....... Don't forget the incoming freshman are not on the depth chart yet and I have a feeling some of them will be on it when they get here...... The position NT on the depth chart play more like a DE. The NG is the guy who lines up vs. the center or either gaurd.
  5. They you go......And how do you turn the ball over 3 times in OT!!!!!!! Was Collins even in during the OT!!!!!!
  6. Try sportstalkcleveland.com they might have the game on.......
  7. Come on Dwight!!!!!!! Lose the pellet gun and just play ball!!!!!!!
  8. Eat'em up Eat'em up go Zips go!!!!!
  9. Mr Guest...... I never said that is was one big happy family...... But when you or another guest come on here and just puts some words on the board with out any real evidence than that is a rumor......If you don't believe me check out your nearest Webster!!!!!! And like I said if some body wants to leave than I say don't let the door hit you in the Butt!!!!! Just cause a guy can hit a three point shot from any where almost anytime does not mean they show me getting major PT.......Just look a 00 from last year......He could shot but did not play D......Now compare this year to last year.........Damn ZFF you are right.
  10. Oh this guy is unhappy about playing and this guy is unhappy about this........ Note to all guest posters....Knock the rumor S#$t Off!!!!!!!! And you know if anybody is uhappy about anything then get the hell out!!!!! All the freshman are getting some PT right now. They should feel lucky cause very few freshamn get any PT. And if a walkon is crying about time tough Sorry but a kid on scholarship will play first Period!!!!!!!! Hilltopper started a good topic and guest posters have to turn it around into rumor crap.. Come fellow Zip fans Enjoy the Time........The Zips are one game out of first with only three to go!!!!!!! Now lets pay Can't Back!!!!!!!
  11. Tonight is the biggest game of the year and there is no talking going on!!!!! Wake Up!!!!!! Let's Go Zips!!!!! Miami!!!!!!!!!!

  13. To be the best you have to play the best!!!!! Also BG will bring more fans to the Bowl than BSU or EMU...... Also another chance to get on National TV
  14. Great Post Zipster Jr........ To Coach Sax and Coach Brown........ .......... I would like to ask both Coaches a question.......How many seniors were sitting the bench for your teams last year??????? I am sure you each had some because the best players play.......If the Akron and Can't coaches felt that any kids were solid D I talent they would be been higher up on their charts....... I have another question for you Coach Brown....Why didn't you push harder for your kids that went to Pitt and Cincy to come to Akron......... Coach Sax why didn't you push your player who just committed to the Suckeyes to come to Akron...... The days of Akron being a place for marginal D I players to play big time football is over.....Coach Brookhart is making it a point to make The University Of Akron the best it possible can and you can't do that with kids who aren't D I material.......... Oh and by the way......Coach Owens should not be shocked that he ended up getting the young man from Garfield........He should have realized that talent evaluation is what got him fired at Akron............War Eagles!!!!!!!!!
  15. Here is what Mr. Jarvis has to say..... A nickle for your thoughts...... See you at the Bowl.........I have a feeling somebody is going to be looking to knock that chip off your shoulder........
  16. I look at it this way.......The Zips have can a long way when they have to tell a player like Jarvis sorry we are all filled up. He went to Can't so he could have a chane to play early....... But if he wanted to play for championships he should have come to Akron. Good Luck Mr. Jarvis.........
  17. In front of the Porky's Place at halftime????
  18. Just a thought I had we could have a slug meeting at halftime of the Can't game Wed. ANybody else have a thought????
  19. Thanks oldschoolzip that is what I ment.
  20. Well he will not be on scholarship this coming school year or will he will allowed to do anything with the team but if he does get his grades up he can play in two years. So I see him as a no risk player......
  21. Nice Read on Antwon. Wednesday only the start for Pups Tuesday, February 1, 2005 By CHRIS BEAVEN Repository sports writer The road to major college football often travels through McKinley High School. That road, though, does not always come without obstacles. For a pair of Bulldogs who helped lead McKinley to last fall’s state finals, their road to an NCAA Division I-A school includes overcoming self-made academic hurdles. Ryan Brinson and Antwon Hight will sign national letters of intent with West Virginia and Akron, respectively, Wednesday morning. But each player realizes academic work remains for them to eventually play college football. “I’m on that thin line right now where I’ve got to work hard and work toward the future,” Brinson said. “I have to keep my head on. ... I have to make sure I stay focused and that I’m getting the grades I need.” The state’s Associated Press Co-offensive Player of the Year in Division I last fall, Brinson is working towards solidifying his grade-point average during his final semester at McKinley. He also will take the ACT again next week in hopes of improving his score to ensure his eligibility at West Virginia this fall. “If I do my part, it’ll work out for the best,” said Brinson, McKinley’s career rushing leader with 4,772 yards and scoring leader with 336 points. Hight, a defensive lineman, is maintaining the same attitude. “I need to stay focused in the classroom a lot more than I’ve been,” Hight said. “I know if I’d done that a long time ago, I wouldn’t be in the situation I am in.” Hight realizes Akron, in a sense, is his “second shot” to get things right. “They’ve been with me since Day 1,” Hight said. “They’re the only ones to give me a chance. They kept coming down and kept talking. They said ‘We really want you, and you can get through this.’ ” McKinley head coach Brian Cross is doing what he can to help both players. He just wishes they had realized the importance of academics much earlier. “You’ve got to get on these guys early, their freshman year,” he said. “By the time they juniors and seniors, they’ve had such a bad start, they’re so deep in the hole, they’re struggling to get out of it. Then they don’t see a chance to get out, and they go through the motions.” Cross said coaches can talk all they want, but it is up to the players to do something about it. “You can have your parental support, your teaching support and your coaching support,” he said. “But (they’re) the ones that have to do the work.” Brinson’s problem was a common one. “It was just being hard-headed and not having good study habits,” he said. “I was looking to have more fun instead of sitting down, doing homework and then having fun.” Brinson said he has great support. His mom, Felicia Smith, held him out of a game his sophomore year to drive home the importance of academics. His grandfather and uncles joined his mom in doing their best to push him. “Ryan started doing better last year when he realized if he didn’t turn around, he didn’t have a chance,” Cross said. “He’s got himself close.” Hight said he wasn’t mature enough to listen to the advice. “Everybody was telling me, ‘Get your grades up,’ ” Hight said. “I thought I had time. I had three more years. That time flew by, and now I’m a senior already. “I was just young and stubborn, and didn’t want to listen. I was too lazy. ... But hey, I’ve got to live with what I did. I can only learn from it.” To help its players, McKinley has the “Play It Smart” program, a tutuoring service offered by the NFL. Former McKinley and Can't State standout DeMarlo Rozier serves as the academic coach of the program. “Having a guy like him is important, too,” Cross said. “He went to school got a degree and played football, and now he’s trying to help them do the same things.” Cross has been a high school head coach for 23 years. This is nothing new to him. “The frustrating part is it seems like these guys think something will happen in the end that will make it all OK,” Cross said. “It doesn’t work that way. Maybe they’ve seen too many movies where the star player magically in the end became eligible. That’s not the way it is.” You can reach Repository sports writer Chris Beaven at (330) 580-8345 or e-mail:
