(Note: I did not write this letter)Give credit where credit is due at UA The new InfoCision Stadium as part of the transformation of the University of Akron is a tremendous asset to the city, the surrounding communities and to Northeast Ohio.I am not familiar with the exact timetable that set all this new development and green space into motion, but the impetus to improve the conditions of the university probably took place years ago, with President Luis Proenza, Vice President Ted Curtis and the assistant vice president of physical facilities leading the way.I understand the enthusiasm that surrounds the new stadium, but it is getting old and tiresome to hear the new athletic director take credit for this project at every media and photo opportunity.Mack Rhoades can be happy about the new athletic facility, and he can put it on his resume when he looks to move on to bigger and better things, but it would be nice, once in a while, to give credit to all the other people, especially those who worked so tirelessly before he got here, to mobilize the movers and shakers and to acquire the funding to give the community and the University of Akron this beautiful new stadium. #7 Joe PetridesCurley's Petrides picks AkronArchbishop Curley lineman Joe Petrides is headed to Ohio for college. The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder committed to Akron on Friday, picking the Zips over Buffalo, James Madison, New Hampshire and Villanova, among others.“[Recruiting] was on my mind pretty much every day during football season,” Petrides said. “So it was definitely tough. ... It feels like a big relief [to commit]. It feels good.”Petrides was offered by Akron during the summer and made an unofficial visit to the school before football season. “I liked it a lot,” Petrides said. “They’re building a new stadium that’ll be ready by my freshman year, so they’re doing a lot of new things up there.”Petrides, the son of longtime City College football coach George Petrides, helped Curley to an 8-3 record this fall. He recorded approximately 77 tackles, 28 assists and six sacks as a senior. Archbishop Curley head coach Sean Murphy said the Akron coaches haven’t decided whether they’ll bring Petrides in as an offensive or defensive lineman.“They’re looking at him ... probably at either guard or a defensive tackle,” Murphy said. “I think the thing they liked about him was his athleticism and room to put some weight on. ... He plays tight end for us, but in our offense [tight ends are] glorified run blockers. We would run to his side all the time and we finished with about 3,200 rushing yards, most of them on the right side. He’s an outstanding run blocker.”Petrides said he’d like to study either athletic training or exercise science in college.• Click here for a list of local high school commitments.SOURCE

I agree he had a lot of tackles and that looks impressive. However, they were all way down field. It's not like he was making hits at or behind the LOS.It shows our lack of recruiting when a Soph walkon is starting.Yep dirty walkons, just drag the team down.Like this guy...Mike Schmidtand this guy...SmithShows a total lack of recruiting on the parts of those teams too. Thanks Gmann I was think in the same thing. All of this walkon talk is for not.......Here is a story about Campbell LinkHere is a quote:There were no players with experience returning at free safety, and Campbell went after the job headfirst. He was placed on scholarship during the summer.

A Msg from Zeke Marshall's MOM...
zff replied to FromdaBurgh's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
I am going to go out on a limb and say if Zeke becomes a Zip he will be a Program changer. He is exactly what this program is missing. The Zips have never had an athletic game changing center. He is a very high profile player that could get other high profile players to join him in Akron. If the Zips ever want to jump to a high mid major program Zeke is a must get.Why would OSU and Xavier want another 7 footer? They both have one coming in for the fall. -

Someone has a thought about a new arena.Groundbreaking ceremony set for new UA stadium By Katie ByardBeacon Journal online journalist POSTED: 10:29 a.m. EDT, Apr 01, 2008 The University of Akron will host a by-invitation-only groundbreaking ceremony Friday for its new $64 million stadium. UA aims to have the long-awaited facility complete in time for the first home football game of the season in September 2009. The facility, which will be built southeast of campus, is named for its biggest contributors: Gary and Karen Taylor of InfoCision Inc. in Bath Township and Summa Health System in Akron. The university unveiled the plans for the stadium in August. It will accommodate 30,000 people seated and standing, be used for a wide range of events and will bring football back to campus for the first time in almost 50 years. The Zips now play at the Rubber Bowl several miles away. That concrete-and-steel horseshoe opened in 1940. I really do have better things to do with my time then to make up stores about the Women's Basketball program. And since when does Women's basketball get talked about on message boards.
-
I have caught wind of some Women's Basketball Scoop. I am working on 100% confirming this information but it does come from a source close to the situation. Coach Kest has removed the following players from the program. A reason was not given but I hope to have that information as well.Removed from the team are:Rhiana MillerSarah TahkodiKeyla SnowdenTeresa Scott

As Frenchy and Dunn were going to a break before the post game show you could here Dunn say "Time to go back to the dorms boys". And when they came back from break they said the students were ready to fight Frenchy. So I am guessing Steve must have said something too.

I know there was some debate if this game was still going to be played. Well an article in yesterday Wisconsin State Journal says game on.Here is part of the story:The Badgers were actually juggling three dates, after Akron, which opens the season at UW Aug. 30, tried to get out of that game."They basically told us they weren't going to play us at one point," Bielema said.Akron ended up with more contracts for games than open dates, Bielema said, although the situation was resolved and that game was kept.http://www.madison.com/wsj/home/sports/273850

On the Zips radio show last week J.D. said Shuford will come into camp as a DB just to add depth. But he will be a RB before his days as a Zip are done. He lloked very good running the ball and will provide a spark for the Zip offense in the future.Capn,Are there any scholarships left for this season?
