What prep school is Hill at?
-
He is back on the roster that is included in the Can't State Game notes. I think had been missing in the weeks before.
-
Did anybody on this thread watch the game???? In the 4th quarter the Zips were only senidng the 3 dl after the qb. Two LB's were dropping back into coverage about 5 - 8 yards off the line of scrimmage. When the Hooiser QB ran out of the pocket the two lb's were right there haeding for him. But because he was 2 to 3 steps quicker than the lb's he ran free. I was waiting to see one of the lb's removed for a faster db who would have a better shot at the qb.Don't think Can't will do the same this week. Thier QB is not that fast.So to make my point it is not the 3-3-5 it is the fact our back 8 are just not fast and quick enough for the top elite players.....

Well that sucks. I thought Williams might help with him being a Zip.Maybe the Beacon should write a column asking why local kids won't stay home and play for the Zips?????
-
So let me try to understand this. Becasue OSU is the big brother we can not talk smack and just have to be nice about the up coming game. Because since 75% of the state likes OSU and they have bowed down to play us we should be nice and take are beating and go home. Also be thankful for the national spot light by playing the mighty Buckeyes. I think it is really great the 75% like what looks we can provide their team for a national championship run!!!! Ok, thanks Dad you make a great point. And then next wek we can go back to our old ways becuase the state and national spot light are off. And oly 5% of the state will be talking Zips football.

I would like to see the Zips do what the Tampa Bay Bucs do when they get inside the 10.Bring in the jumbo package and put Tuzze as the HB. He is a Mike Alstott type of runner.Akron has some big guys on the line to provide a good push and Joe can pound the ball.

Here is an article from GoZips.comAKRON – Over the last two weeks, the University of Akron football team has devoted its practices learning the playbook, working on fundamentals, getting young and/or inexperienced player repetitions and developing a depth chart. Thursday morning’s three-hour session at Schrank Field saw the latter starting to take shape. Key among those positions in question was at quarterback. After “making a very tough decision” according to head coach J.D. Brookhart, sophomore Chris Jacquemain led the first team offense throughout practice with fellow sophomore Carlton Jackson running the second unit. “It is a great problem to have,” Brookhart said when referring to the tough decision. “Chris and Carlton have both improved greatly from the spring and are way ahead of where we expected them to be at this point. Our decision came down to who we thought would manage the game best. “We are planning to still play Carlton in the second quarter of games, but Chris will not be on a short leash. Carlton has earned the right to play and we need him to have as much game experience as possible because you never know what can happen.” Akron will have a light practice session Friday before implementing game plans on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball for the 2007 season opener versus Army in the inaugural FirstMerit Patriot Bowl. Kickoff for the Zips-Black Knights game is set for 7 pm at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Tickets for the FirstMerit Patriot Bowl are available by calling the Zips Ticket Office at 1-888-99-AKRON (888-992-5766). Prior to the game, from 1-6 pm, there be will tailgate party at Mall C (two blocks from Cleveland Browns Stadium). Admission and entertainment are free. Appearances will be made by Zippy, Akron cheerleaders, Akron band and Army core of cadets. There will also be live music, inflatables and Army displays. Food and beverages will be available to purchase as well. Also at Mall C, there will be a VIP Tailgate from 4-6 pm. The buffet meal will cost $25 for adults and $10 for youth 4-12. Fans must purchase tickets to the VIP Tailgate in advance by calling the UA Ticket Office.

I don't see CJ moving to WR. It does make since but he is just one play away from being the starter. (Just ask Frye). I really don't see if that happens JD starting a true freshman in the shoe on the 8th. Maybe put CJ on the field to run a few plays from WR and a trick play or two but nothing permant.
-
That is awesome. I can't wait to call in on my ride home from Cleveland Browns Stadium. Thanks to all who made this happen.
-
Where is the walk-on. If he can make kicks give him a shot. I know it sucks to have 2 kicker on scholarship sitting the pines but they need a solid kicker.
-
I was told Brinson just two a few classes in the spring semester (not full time) and he was not expected to on the team. Not sure what happened.EDIT:Sorry for the bad grammer but my eyes have gone bad playing hours of Godzilla Saves the World with my son.

Magrell was a huge waste of talent. He got busted for drugs and left school for Can't. He then left Can't for Malone. He played two good seasons there. He like to get high more than win football games. What a shame!!!!

PostGazette.comAnother Story He think he is coming here to play tailback???? Next year is will be Kennedy, Allen, Williams, Johnson and now Bruce. Plus don't forget about Pride running the ball a few times a game.......WVU player going to AkronSaturday, August 11, 2007Pittsburgh Post-GazetteReceiver-slotback Jeremy Bruce of Blackhawk High School has been given his release from West Virginia and intends to transfer to Akron to play tailback, Mountaineers coach Rich Rodriguez said yesterday.Bruce, a 2004 Post-Gazette Fabulous 22 selection who had eight catches for 98 yards and 10 rushes for 32 yards in his two Mountaineers seasons, will sit out this year and have two seasons of eligibility remaining. In other Mountaineers news, starting outside linebacker Marc Magro was sent home from practice with mononucleosis for which he had been receiving medication for several days. "He looked as sick as I've ever seen him," Rodriguez said. "I don't know when he'll be back. Maybe a few days. I hope that's it."

He will have to sit this year and will have two years left.

This is from westvirgina.scout.comTrue freshman defensive back Kendall Washington, who was going to be redshirted on defense, is now playing wide receiver. Numerous wideouts have been injured and missed time in camp, especially Wes Lyons, whose hamstring has been continually aggravated. Junior college transfer Alric Arnett also did not practice today with an ankle sprain, and the impending transfer of junior Jeremy Bruce to Akron has left the depth lacking, even with the tailbacks mixing in at the slot positions. Washington, a 6-4, 195-pound native of Canton, Ohio, will add to the numbers there.SourceAnother Article that mentions the transfer

Zips Athletics Lose Treasured Member of Family

This article was not written only because Mr. Stile gave a large sum of money to the University. He was a very active Akron Grad and a very successful business man in the Akron area. If you read the article that was attached his name was all over the community. Lou was known and loved by a lot of people. I think this article would have been written regardless of how much money he had donated. And just maybe the whole naming of the fieldhouse was not his idea.......Just a thought to ponder.Lou's gift is going to take the Men's Basketball and Football programs to the next level. Most teams in the MAC don't have the extra income every year this gift will provide. Season tickets holders are necessary to keep a program moving steady but the big donors take it to the next level. So I believe you need to give credit where credit is due. -
I guess that will open the door for Mondo. I just can't wait to see him in the hole waiting for Wells of the Buckeyes......

McKinley kicker Campbell's summer strategy pays offSunday, July 22, 2007By Jim Thomas Repository Sports Writer Local Sports Headlines CANTON McKinley High School's all-time kicking leader preferred not to participate in Saturday's East-West All-Star Kicking Contest. On his own home turf of Fawcett Stadium, mind you. Zack Campbell had better things planned. "I haven't been practicing my kicking every day this summer like I have been all year and last year," said Campbell, a 2007 McKinley graduate. "I'm a preferred walk-on at the University of Akron. "I didn't want to wear my leg out or get injured before going to camp." Campbell had tallied 237 points over four seasons playing for the Bulldogs, third-best in Ohio all-time as a kicker. But Campbell wanted to play in the 18th annual Repository East-West All-Star Football Game. And he did, with great success. Campbell converted both of his point-after touchdown kicks and made a 38-yard field goal. His field goal in the third quarter kicked the East's lead out to 17-12 so the West would have to score a touchdown to win the game. The West failed to crack the scoreboard again and Campbell's field goal was the last points scored in the East's 17-12 victory. "He really made a big play with his field goal," East head coach Tim Tyrrell said. "That kick was huge. And his kickoffs were huge." "I'm really excited," said Campbell, a big 6-foot-2, 180-pounder. "I was happy that I could kick one more time here on this field. It's a great feeling. "My brother, Matt, ended his career exactly the same way. He kicked here four years ago in the East-West game. "He didn't make a field goal, but he made an extra-point. But the East lost (37-7 in 2003)." Campbell's two PATs and a field goal were just like any other day while he was a member of the Bulldogs. He slammed through seven field goals in each of the last two seasons and booted five as a sophomore. Campbell made 42 point-after kicks as a sophomore, 55 as a junior and 52 last season. Campbell will take a week off before starting to limber up for the Aug. 5 two-a-days. "I know there is a senior there, and a kid who's a red-shirt freshman," Campbell said. "I'm looking forward to (the competition)." Reach Repository sports writer Jim Thomas at (330) 580-8336 or e-mail: jim.thomas@cantonrep.com

I am sure Coach D would not mind leaving the JAR for a 60 million renovated Football stadium. The Zips could have thier own mini Carrier Dome.Don't judge the first final plans because it sounds like it is only part one.......

I am confused. He had said he was going to be a Zip. And then on signing day he went with Florida Atlantic. But now about going to a prep school he is going to be a Zip again......
