  3. Like others have noted, this is a very intriguing post GP. I have a couple of counterpoints which I will provide as part of my "ideal" scenario. I have long favored a 16-team playoff, with ALL 11 FBS conference champions given automatic entry and 5 "at large" bids. I also agree with many sportswriters who believe that many of the more desirable bowls themselves could be used in the tournament. Perhaps, the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals could rotate between 7 bowls? I would also allow for the continuation of additional bowls that are not part of the tournament. Now to address a few of your assertions. First I believe the FCS, D-2 and D-3 comparisons do not hold water. While I agree that these divisions are SOMEWHAT hampered by a lack of competition at the top, I think the FBS landscape is different. The most significant difference is that people CARE about FBS football from coast to coast and in between. Outside of Alliance and portions of Wisconsin and the Pacific Northwest, D-3 football is an afterthought for the most part. The GLIAC has dominated D-2 football in recent history, but remains only of regional interest. The FCS of course gets the most national exposure, and perhaps this is why it's been a little more competitive at the top (Richmond had never won a title before this year). Since a conference championship (NOT a conference TOURNAMENT championship) would result in an automatic NCAA bid, the regular season conference games would absolutely maintain their significance. Even the non-conference games would have some meaning in terms of selecting the 5 at large teams. In fact, you might see better non-conference match-ups now that the "biggies" wouldn't feel as compelled to schedule FCS cupcakes since a a non-conference loss would not prevent a team from still getting a shot at the national title.I agree that having two teams and their fans descend upon the same city during the days surrounding a bowl game is extrememely exciting. But, I don't see why this same environment couldn't occur if that bowl game just happened to also be the 1st round or quarterfinal of a tournament.A 16-team playoff (three extra weeks, since the BCS national championship already adds one) would not necessarily have to run beyond the current season. Multiple bye weeks from every teams schedule could be eliminated and the early round bowls moved up a bit in the calendar.I think the "player compensation" aspect is really a separate argument. Either we pay them all or we don't pay any of them. Teams (schools) already benefit greatly from the deeds of the student athlete, and I don't think a tournament really changes this situation much. Those are my 2 cents.

  5. 29 point blowouts seem to have that effect. Ouch!!! I knew URI would be tough, but this was pretty bad. Oh well, the MAC sucks so let's hope we can suck the least!
  6. The pixie dust has worn off for the Bulls, as further MAC humiliation continues. UConn is up 38-20 in the waning moments. It should have been 78-20, but for UConn shooting themselves in the foot. With nothing but a rudderless Ball St squad standing in the way of a likely 0-5 bowl record, the MAC has essentially fumbled the decent momentum that had been gained over the course of the regular season. If the Zips don't perform extremely well in this league next year, there are NO excuses.
  7. I DO enjoy all of your optimistic predictions, Zipmeister. But I have a long standing question. Do you cut and paste?
  8. Mark me down as a HUGE affirmative B&G. Let's focus on that for now and give that poor, deceased equine a break
  9. Will the "Team of Destiny" be able to hold on against UConn? UB continues to benefit from big plays in all phases as they race out to a 20-10 1st half lead. The stats look one-sided in favor of UConn (and they're controlling the LOS big time), but the Bulls' propensity for the "Midas Touch" continues.
  10. Final Score Utah 31 Alabama 17Wow, it's sure nice seeing a BCS conference team getting their lunch handed to them in a BCS bowl Now I'm probably in the minority in that I actually think the BCS system itself is a great deal better than the old "bowl tie-in" system (even though it's not a 16 team playoff like I'd prefer). But they (the BCS) are really going to have to reconsider the Big East getting an automatic bid over the Mountain West. I mean, you could actually argue that Utah deserved as much of a shot to be in the BCS National Championship as anyone else this year.
  11. There's a long way to go, but I am loving it as Utah is off to an early 21-0 lead over the Crimson Tide. May I assume that most of us enjoy seeing the "BCS Buster" doing well?
  12. Perhaps. But it IS completely accurate that JD's LAST THREE Zip squads have faded miserably down the stretch. That's not the trend we desired heading into the Info, but I suppose that's water under the bridge. Hopefully there will be enough improvement on D in the off season to ride the "Info opening momentum" all the way to the END of the 2009 season.
  13. OK man. I thought maybe you had some info on Jordan. Nobody seems to know much about him, other than he's a relatively big, athletic QB who had a nice, but not stellar, HS career at New Philly. You're right, though. If we can nab Nicely, I have to think the winner of that 3-way competition would be a very good QB for the Zips.
  14. I'm gonna go ahead and say ityou are not a true zips fan unless you are an OBC mug holder Agreed! Drink beer, drink beer, drink beer G-D drink beer......GO ZIPS IN 2009! BEAT INDIANA AT INFOSUMMA!STZ......I won't drink beer with any fanwho won't drink beer with an Akron fan!Akron once!Akron twice!!Holy jumpin' J-CG-D, SOBGO ZIPS!!!
  15. Nice seeing Nikola having some success, albeit in garbage time.Game over. Zips win 75-53.
  16. I'm concerned. Joe Dunn said the momentum has changed 160 degrees
  17. 40-29 UA at the half. Keep it up Zips!!!
  18. I found this to be well-said. "Ill-fated and awkward," was the OBC - Damon's arrangement. When I'd take newbies there I didn't even know how to tell them where we were going. Were we going to the OBC? Were we going to Damon's?I'm hoping the OBC hiatus is a brief one. Since they support the Zips, here's to Zips fans supporting them! Perhaps I said something that was misleading, but I must emphasize this point. OBC is NOT going out of business nor are they taking a hiatus as had been previously suggested on an earler (and now missing) thread. They will be operating from the current location for the time being until (if and when) they decide to make a move. In fact, I was told that in spite of the current economic downturn, business has been picking up towards the end of 2008. Now I'm not naive enough to think that these conditions could change rapidly, but as for now this is NO intention to change location/hours/etc. They're actually having a New Years' Eve party tonight that I would be attending if not for an early morning drive out of town.
  19. Now I have no idea how good Jordan Miller is, but I beleve he was a 3-star recruit according to one of the scouting services. Has he been so unimpressive in his short stay at UA that it's understood that he'd be behind Rodgers and Nicely (if he commits)? I'm just asking since he (Miller) has been somewhat of a mystery since he signed.
  20. Maybe they (WMU) should have waited until after the bowl game ESPN Link
  21. Rice is humiliating Western 31-0 with 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. It looks like it's up to Ball St. and/or Buffalo to defend any vestige of MAC honor that remains for 2008. This makes our last three results look even worse IMHO.
  22. Since the thread that was being used to discuss upcoming changes at Ohio Brewing Company was lost in the "Great ZN Server Hack of '08", I thought I would provide some update on their plans as I've heard them over the past few weeks. These can probably be best summarized in bullet form.1) The ill-fated and awkward partnership with Damien's is over (thankfully). The OBC menu remains and will undergo an expansion very soon.2) A potential summer move (June time frame) is being explored. One of the driving factors is the desire to possibly bottle some of these fine brews. Apparently the current location, while beyond spacious for dining, is somewhat lacking for beer production.3) If there is a new location, it will likely be near Go-Jo's, farther south on Main.4) I specifically inquired about a potential shuttle to and from the Info for Zip FB in the fall. I was told a bio-diesel shuttle is planned!I know there are a few dissenters out there, but if you enjoy craft beer and haven't tried OBC yet you simply must give it a shot. I have brought a dozen or so people there myself, and each has come away very impressed. It's great to have a quality beer producer right in our midst, IMHO, especially one that also supports the Zips (I think we've managed to get the whole "bartenders wearing OSU gear during Zip events" thing straightened out lol).
  23. The 1st link is Rasor's blog entry. The 2nd is a Rivals page on him. If we're fortunate enough to land this guy, I sure hope he sees the field and plays with a lot more heart than another highly touted DL who will go unnamed (hint: his last name doesn't rhyme with pain).Rasor BlogRivals Link
  24. ?He agreed with his post so much he wanted to see it twice. My bad. The words in bold were added to the original post.
  25. I agree with skip-zip that a win at Little Rhody would be monumental, and I'd be pretty surprised if it occured. And a win at Miami would also be a pleasant, although not as improbable, surprise. But since the 2008-2009 MAC looks to be even weaker than it has been over the last few years, I fully expect to win a majority of home conference games along with a few road wins.
