I think you meant to say that Nicely talked nicely about UA This reminds me of an ex-Zip O-linemen from New Philly named Brock Knisely. I think the fact that he played at UA has caused a few of us to misspell Patrick's name during his recruitment. Anyway, I used to work with Brock and we would always tease him that a certain Asian fan was always extolling his gridiron prowess, as in"that Brock Knisely, he brock very nicely"

The Official "Ask The Coach" Thread: Week of Jan. 19th
johnnyzip84 replied to ZipsLive's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
For Coach Kest: Are you doing anything in particular to try to maintain the team's focus on Ball St. in the wake of the long-awaited victory over our rivals to the east? For Coach Dambrot: Might your defensive tactics be altered depending on whether or not Chris Singletary plays on Saturday? -
Now if Phil decommits, I'm pulling my offer for that DUPLEX drealscout1 has been showing me Is it a penalty to jump off the top rope when playing D-Line?
-
It's hard to imagine Tyree Evans having 3 straight games of horrid shooting, so I think the Zips will need to score a bit more than usual to win this one. I DO think we can create turnovers against Can't however. Maybe a few fast break buckets off of TOs will be just what the Dr. ordered?Zips 68flushes 65Ps. Someone (The Nitro Net Nuker?) gets hot from three point land.

Alex Allen Gets His 6th Year!
johnnyzip84 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Yes BZ, AA now has two years left.Lee, I know it's a wild shot in the dark, but Martin and Torrence just might contribute a little in 2009. -
Do you really think F. Scott Fitzgerald (or whoever he is) would stoop so low as to blatantly plagiarize and then FLAUNT it?

Quick Recruiting Update

1) Does this mean drealscout1 is for real?2) Ahhh, he probably fits in better with the caliber of Toledo's recruiting class anyhow -
Alex Allen Gets His 6th Year!
johnnyzip84 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Terrific news on AA. I was just wondering this week how Cowles was coming along. I liked what I saw from the young man last year, particularly early in the 'Cuse game before he got hurt. Hopefully he'll get the additional care he needs soon. Thanks for passing this along, Cap'n -
Getsy has been long gone since Christmas. He's the offensive coordinator at D2 West Virginia Wesleyan.http://www.wvwc.edu/athletics/sports/football/coach.aspWow, D2 or not, that's pretty young to be a coordinator. Although come to think of it, I'll bet Dave Snowball wasn't too much older when he became Owen's 1st DC at Akron.Given the opportunity, would Luke consider coming back here to coach QB's? More money (I assume, here at UA) vs. more responsibliity.....tough to say what might be more important to him at this stage in his coaching career.

Let's not forget back in the pre-season, it was reported by ZN observers that BM had possibly played himself out of a RS year.LinkAlso, recall that BM even played some point in those scrimmages (not that I expect to see this any time soon in a game situation). Sullivan was in a boot cast at the time, so the coaches may have decided early on that they were going to RS him (Sullivan) for certain. That brings us to approximately 1 week ago, when the staff realizes that Ronnie Steward could very well be out the rest of the season. Couple this with the fact that the Zips are dead last in the MAC in shooting. Given these facts, the decision to play BM this season becomes an easy one IMHO. Even though he probably won't see any time at PG, his availability at SG allows McNees and Roberts to share the PG load more with Humpty.

UConn message boards are just picking up on this. they expect an official announcement tomorrow.Article on the moveNow that it's been announced, what will JD do for next season? I would have to assume that a promotion from within is the most likely solution, given this point in the year. I'm thinking that Brian Callahan will have the best chance of getting it. Perhaps he will also maintain his position as offensive line coach and JD could select someone else (is Getsy too young/inexperienced?) to handle QB's.

Thanks for the info, SAZ. Here is a Canton Repository story on it.LinkHere is another, more recent, story that raises financial concerns (go figure) for the league.Link 2

Chris, Terry, Dana and in this case Taylor..........Rivals was burned by the use of a "gender neutral" first name. This just goes to show how much effort they put into their research

Is this inside information, because I haven't been able to find anything yet on the net that confirms this?

Awesome display of guts tonight Zippers! It won'r get any easier in Athens on Tuesday, but this was most certainly a welcome result for the program this year. That's the way to keep playing defense guys (holding BGSU to 28% fron the floor!!!!)! Humpty may have been only 5-15 in shooting, but he had 3 assists to only ONE turnover.I admit that I'm also a little surprised at burning Brett McClanahan's RS, but I'm thinking that with Steward's injury being perhaps worse than initially thought, KD felt that he needed more depth at guard for the stretch run.

Updated MAC Power Ranking are out!
johnnyzip84 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
So much for that. Miami wins by 11 points, getting ZERO points from their bench. WTF? Can't fans must want to go jump off a bridge somewhere these days...OK, so I stand corrected. But I don't mind at all being wrong about that! -
I wished he'd stuck around, but life goes on. I believe he was the #36 TE out of HS per Rivals or Scout when he signed here. Last year it struck me that he definitely had more of a "receiving TE" look than a "blocking TE". So I'm a little surprised they couldn't work him in the spread as a "big WR". But apparently that's water under the bridge. Good luck Jose.

You must be thinking of somebody else out of Langston, Zipmeister --> LinkNow THAT guy must have been one of the great GP1's all-time favorites Monster hands or not, everyone knows you can't jump straight from JUCO to the esteemed United National Gridiron League! Come to think of it, do you think Jose Cruz might try to make the leap?

I managed to find a "Team Ohio" roster. Looks like Yamari Dixon is listed as a safety.Link

For all of you in Nikola's Fan Club out there (count me in BTW), KD did discuss Nik's playing time some. He mentioned the staff was concerned that, earlier in the season, Nik's emotions on the floor were getting in the way of what they wanted him to do. He seemed to indicate that they have been working with him on this and that his PT would increase as the emotions remain under control. It's a catch 22 to me. I think one reason why Nik is so aggressive out there (something we obviously need) is because he's an emotional kid. Let's hope they (Nik and the coaches) can work towards a "happy median" on this. -
I think somewhere in the Birmingham News article, Cribbs states that they'd be thrilled with crowds of 10K to 20K. I think it's POSSIBLE to get something like that at the Info, at least for the 1st few years. And I have a suggestion for the Akron Team nickname.......bring back the Vulcans!!!!Continental Football League Link

Yeah, let's hope he doesn't make any ACC visits before signing day since I saw at one point he was holding out hope for an offer from one of those schools.
-
It's definitely a spring league, if it ever gets off the ground.

Cap'n, this has to be one of your all-time classics in terms of obscure, "where did he find that", stories I certainly never heard of this until now. But looking at their website, they are supposed to be starting in February of 2009. Those workers better get moving on finishing up the Info One other interesting tidbit. Their commissioner is none other than Joe Cribbs, former Auburn and Bengal RB.LinkHere's another story on this league from the Birmingham News. Apparently, they've already had a player draft. I've seen the team in Akron referred to "Ohio" also, but I've yet to find a complete team name for any of the supposed squads.Birmingham News
