  1. just wanted to bump this thread...great cause and i'm going to be purchasing one of these. btw, I have kicked one of these around and I just wanted to point out that these are pretty nice soccer balls...they are by no means cheap.
  2. i'm in...see all you Renegades there.
  3. so according to your argument, the Browns shouldn't feel too bad because the Colts suck worse? Thank god Caleb Porter didn't come to UA with that attitude.
  4. Anyone who thinks that our band is "so loud the sound echoes back to them" is an idiot...im sorry. Our band is pitiful in terms of sound output. Also, a lot of bands learn a drill (and far more challenging ones) in one week, and they don't all have music on their instruments. AND, let's be real here...OU is doing something right. They have an amazing band tradition for a football program that is historically no better than ours. They give fans a reason to have some pride. For years i've taken my friends back to the parking lot to drink more to escape the embarrassment that comes with our halftime shows. Really, the whole "well we are better than Can't" argument isn't good enough either. We should enact sweeping changes and create a marching band that is worthy of the beautiful stadium and soon to be far better football program we have/will have. P.S. Just so you know, I REALLY WANT TO LIKE OUR BAND. I'm thoroughly embarrassed by it and hopefully in the future we can fix the mess that it has become. We are just near the bottom in terms of entertainment, marching, and atmosphere...and that sucks.
  5. It figures that a blown call would kill that one last gasp of "Pouch Magic" that we tried to summon in the final minutes too. I wish i could see a view from atop the press box of that ball going 2 feet past the line...then again I don't need to get worked up all over again. But we can't fret quite yet. We still have the second season and as I witnessed in Buffalo and all of us have witnessed at various points this season, this team can turn it on at any moment and just MASSACRE people. We have tons of talent and a great coach, and I bet we will be laughing at this in two weeks when we are drubbing on some unlucky second round opponent. GO ZIPS
  6. We do spread out. We take about 40 of us to the west side whenever the opponent's goalie is on that side. It definitely livens the area up a bit.The real problem is that most people are content to just sit on their hands and stay quiet throughout the entirety of the game. I know some of you on this board are part of that group of fans too. I don't care if you're 50 or a 20 year old college student, have some fun and loosen up. The chants are easy to learn and if you have a few beers in you, it isn't too hard to let go and get loud. I'd love to hear from anyone who finds it hard to join in too, i'd really like to know why.
  7. I don't know the exact record but since i started keeping track personally we are 0-1-3.Fact is, the band massacred the atmosphere. It wouldn't even be so bad if they didn't play the same crap they play at football games. We try to do our things and they just drown us out. And of course I don't think it's fair to blame the loss on them, but it really did RUIN the experience of the game for anyone on the Hill. Actually, I was part of the RCR/Rowdie satellite group that went to the west side under the scoreboard after half time and I heard complaints from average fans who weren't entirely pleased with it either. Personally, I thought it was bad even from across the entire length of the field. Don't get me wrong though, I don't want to exclude the band, I just think less of them should bring instruments to the games. BUT I can fix this:1) Cut the band size in half.2) Learn the music to our chants (i'll supply it, i have all of them, just email me at mike@akronsportsnow.com)There.
  8. can you imagine if a college professor went to a black college students meeting and yelled "death to all (N word)"?! Or if i went to a muslim students meeting/muslim speaker and yelled "death to islam"?Yeah...what a disgusting double-standard.This loon has been doing crap like this for years though.
  9. I would be stressed too if my job performance stunk like Ianello's. College coaching is a high risk high reward field full of stressors. Some can cut it, some excel, and way more fail. He is compensated handsomely for his time and he lobbied for more money in his assistant pool. More resources dedicated to the program means higher expectations therefore higher stress when things go south. Some coaches can turn to facilities, budgets, and/or lack of general support for their athletics from upper management as excuses when their performance suffers. I will continue to criticize Coach Ianello because ducks have been lined up for success yet the on field performance is awful. The team is worse off today than three years ago...bottom line.
  10. Got a few more people bringing food...do you have a grill?
  11. I'm in the "fire him now before it gets worse" crowd. I still don't understand why we are wasting our time letting this fool lose week after week.
  12. yes and yes. We've been tailgating there all season and haven't had a problem, even gave a member of UAPD a hot dog the one time.
  13. Can't wait for Wednesday. I have 5 coming for sure in my group.
  14. http://www.wkyc.com/news/article/211819/45...ocision-Stadiumhttp://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/foot...2/ohio.body.ap/The WKYC link has more details...OK, so it wasn't Ianello.**edit** (not trying to sound offensive, someone on facebook was spreading a rumor that a coach or paid member of the staff was involved...obviously not true)
  15. Went to Buffalo for the game last night, was exhausted when i got back so didn't post until now.But that was one of the most entertaining matches i've ever seen. The officiating was piss poor both ways, though a few of the horribly bad calls really hurt us (the PK). Still, we found a way to win and just plain dominated for the final 30 minutes. I don't think they had one shot after they missed that breakaway shot when it was 3-2. It was awesome to watch us play like we did a few years ago or like most of last year, when we just toyed with them, passing them to death until we found our shot. Great stuff.Being there, I probably would have a different man of the match than most...but most in attendance would agree that it would be Deandre Yedlin. He DOMINATED on the near side of the field for the entire second half. I can almost guarantee that Buffalo didn't get past midfield on that side of the field more than one time that entire half. Yedlin looked like the best guy on the field, stealing the ball within seconds of buffalo getting it back every time, and setting up a lot of chances with his explosive speed down the right sideline. It was no coincidence that our offensive explosion occurred that half when we stopped trying to force it up the middle, and started using Yedlin, playing the entire field and using his speed. On a side note: Following the game, we (all four of us) were standing outside the team bus talking to some parents and team members when Coach Porter came over and personally thanked us for coming. He talked to us for a few minutes and ended up buying us a pizza. Just another example of what a class act and genuinely good guy he is.
  16. I have two extras for this game. I'll give you them both for 15 bucks. (less than i paid for them) They are lower level in the northeast corner section of the stadium.email me at mike@akronsportsnow.com with your phone number and ill text/call you on where to meet up. Oh and i'll throw in a parking pass.
  17. Any real news sources that have this story?
  18. +1No matter how big of a shafting it was, we still should have wooped Michigan. The crappy field conditions didn't help but STILL shouldn't have been close.
  19. mentioned the tailgate in the other thread but if you get the keg, i'll throw down some for it. Let's do this.
  20. They still have to live in Michigan...we still win.
  21. I have someone who can for sure play the song. She just picked up her trumpet and played it for the first time minutes ago with no problem. next game!Oh and everyone: we have a tailgate group for the Renegades next Wednesday starting at 4 pm.
  22. lame...this is why i never trust a computer.
  23. I saw OU for the third time (and first time in person) last saturday. They play reckless at times and i say that as a compliment. They hit at 100 mph every play and even when down, have a swagger on defense. Their offense is hit or miss but they have a few talented receivers that could cause a lot of problems for us. That being said, they don't do anything great and seem to have a tough time with turnovers. I wouldn't count us out.
