  1. I think this is the biggest issue moving forward. I am shocked at the lack of a "buzz" (including marketing!) throughout the week for a game against a Big East team. This game would have EASILY been higher at the Rubber Bowl. The only conclusion that I can draw is the price of admission is too high for the product that is being placed on the field. I am not ready to jump off the Y Bridge after one game, but the lack of fans at the game is troublesome. I didn't renew after last season, and looking at the attendance numbers, I wasn't alone. Too many people worry about the crowd. With as bad as this team has been, how can you expect fans to show? Win some games, and they'll be there. Obama couldn't convince 25k to come watch this mess. Yes he could. He convinced a lot of people to buy into hype. HAHA...+1
  2. I would have to say that is about as bad of a football game as one could watch. After one game i already am certain that i wouldn't let Ianello coach a Pee Wee team, let alone a D1 football team. What a buffoon.
  3. This is great news for people with Xbox 360's as they will have a ESPN 3 application coming out this fall/winter. So if you had time warner before you wouldn't have been able to use the app, now you can.
  4. Did you factor in GA? UofA has always done pretty well with walk up sales as well. Another factor playing into good ticket sales is tOSU played last night. Like it or not, it does impact attendance. I went to a football game myself (USC vs S. Miss) and it really got me in the mood to go to another game. I'm already looking forward to going to the Duke vs. Wake game next Satruday just to watch another game. Watching football makes a fan want to go to a game or go to another game. Without a tOSU game Saturday, I believe there will be a lot of people who reengergized their football spirit last night and will be looking to go to a game. It's Lab Day weekend. No NFL. No tOSU. School has statred so there are no trips to the beach. It's Saturday night and HS games are over including JV games. There are no interesting college games on TV Saturday (evidence....Arizona vs. Toledo is the ESPN prime time game). There is really nothing of note going on in NE Ohio. 20,000 minimum should be expected. I don't expect the Zips to win, but if they did in front of a big crowd over a Big East team, it would do wonders. Heck, just play well and be entertaining and a loss wouldn't kill the interest in the season. Don't suck!!! All of this assumes that people even knew that there was a game happening that they could go to. From what I've seen, that's not really the case. 2 separate neighbors from two separate houses on my road have asked today why there are a dozen of us drinking on the porch and the yard. Had to explain that we have a football game. They both go to Akron and we are a block or two from campus . I'm not surprised.
  5. Also, check out AkronZipsClips, click playlists (up top), and a bunch of these and more are in the soccer playlist.
  6. 3 shots (1 on goal) already a few minutes into the second half for UNC. Not good.
  7. Yeah, if that game was in Akron there would be people on top of the first merit building trying to get a peak at the pitch. Labor Day weekend means you should expect to have fans there.
  8. My group is tailgating/partying at my house a block from the stadium starting at about noon. Hairy Buffalo and a keg of Verich Gold might keep us from remembering the game however.
  9. Well i can tell you all that it's hard to get people into the stadium when they cant buy tickets. I had a friend who just tried to call and buy tickets at 3pm on a friday afternoon and he got the answering machine at the ticket office. Great job UA.
  10. Most of these dudes are weirdos from New York, what else would you expect from that state? Though i'll give them credit, they still seem to have a pretty good fan following after the last few eons of being TERRIBLE.
  11. Big time props for the Rowdies in it too...gotta love it! btw i really hope this is in the print edition as well. Guess i'll find out soon enough.
  12. I agree that there will be more students than previous years (including last year) at this game. I think that all the factors that maxzip said are exactly the reasons too. I expect 25,000 people saturday, anything less is a failure by the Athletic department. I mean come on, how easy do they need it to be? (amazing stadium, good opponent, decent weather)
  13. "Akron Who?!" That should be our championship battle cry.
  14. It may be a bit late but just wanted to let everyone know about the nice thing the U puts together for the community. I just got back from going for the first time and had a pretty good time. I had some free food and got some free stuff so it was definitely pretty cool. Kudos to Akron for putting together such an event for the community and students.
  15. I go to campus every day and most people dont even know about soccer games the day of games still. Football is a little better in that respect at least. To be honest, i dont see the craziness about soccer on campus but i do enjoy going to watch the games. Now if it comes down to football vs soccer....well that's not even debatable. I'd rather watch an 0-12 football team than a 20-0 soccer team.
  16. I'd like to see how many actually are on the team. Looking at the roster right now....do they normally not list everyone on the team?
  17. I'll be a block a way south drinking Hairy Buffalo and a keg of OBC Verich Gold....i'll have to stumble on by on my way to the gate. Let me tell you I'm very impressed with the size of your group.
  18. love your spin on it GP1 but i personally am not too big on dropping down. I wont say i wouldnt go to any more games but i sure as hell wouldn't be as excited as i am now for saturday.
  19. Syracuse still sucks. Akron, 28-17.
  20. Actually no, i'm not a "LeBron" type that leave town for greener pastures at the first chance. I was taught that loyalty is more important than that and I would personally rather build my legacy at one place rather than jump ship every chance i got. I guess you could call me a Caleb Porter kind of guy, ya know, the kind who finishes what they start.
  21. just tuned in, what's the score? EDIT: (well i just now see it's 2-0 USF, wtf is this?!)
  22. Yeah it will be but it looks like you gotta pay monthly just like GoZips.com
