The ones that care about basketball sure are. It's going to be real rowdy and real loud....i promise you that.

HOLY CRAP that is one in depth scouting report. I think i may have even learned something from it.

The real question is if we beat our next 5-6 opponents will WE be top 25...hahaActually that could possibly give us four top 100 RPI wins in that stretch (URI,OU is close,Buffalo, Cant)It's funny, as bad as the MAC is, in terms of RPI we face far higher ranked teams in the next coming weeks compared to the last couple weeks.

New Parking Garage on Exchange

It has happened...i personally witnessed it happen fall 08. It was pretty scary. Amazingly the person hit was alright, the car just clipped him with its mirror. -
I agree...the Raiders are terrible, and it showed when Frye tried to make things happen. He showed some talent, just his receivers are AWFUL.
-
The Zips are looking pretty good today...i dont know about anyone else who is here but this is an impressive performance. 54-32 Zips, early in second half.

It's time to get rowdy for this one.THERE IS NO REASON WHY ANYONE WITHIN DRIVING DISTANCE IS NOT AT THIS GAME. I'm sick of seeing empty stands, no excuses get your a$es in the seats and let's support a winner. If you all can bear to watch Soccer (dont get me wrong, it is exciting in it's own way) you should be able to enjoy some great basketball!BTW, any students reading this: COME ON OUT and sit down in the lower stands, dont worry about being a Rowdy i'm sure there will be room for anyone. If you're intimidated by the Rowdies, come sit on the North side where most regular students sit. It's going to be a good time so come on out. What else are you going to be doing on a Sunday?!

Basketball History vs. Ranked Opponents
RootforRoo44 replied to skip-zip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
8,000 PEOPLE?!?!Id love to have been there for that. I guess i was one, i should have made the trip. -
I'm pretty sure we've beaten ranked opponents on a couple of occasions .. all conference foes .. but ranked none the less. Wasn't Toledo Undefeated and ranked in one of the polls back in 98 or so when they came to the JAR and lost?I'd like to know if this is true because i dont remember it. I know that on TV last year it was mentioned how we never have beaten a ranked opponent in basketball. I know it's happened in football a few times but basketball?

I personally love going to at least one weeknight game a year. The Temple game was fun before the game and for a little bit of the game (before Temple destroyed us). Same as last year, the most fun games of the year were the Toledo and Buffalo games. The later the game, the more time for tailgating.I understand people have jobs but maybe i just like night football. A Saturday night game would be ideal.

Nevada: 3,302Dayon: 4,059and the Dayton game was about 65-35 split in favor of Zips fans. Dayton travels well in-state.i cant believe Nevada was only 3300...it seemed like it was a bigger crowd. I can tell you that there were plenty more students at games back then.

Column Bemoans Sorry State of MAC Basketball
RootforRoo44 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
St Francis wouldn't win a MAC West game. There's "MAC West Bad"...and then there's "St Francis PA Bad." It's like comparing eating lima beans, or poop. Lima beans are horrible, but they ain't poop.[Note - I have not tried poop. If anyone has, and has enjoyed it, well...keep it to yourself] This made me laugh more than anything the entire day. -
Bunbury forgoes final two years, signs with MLS
RootforRoo44 replied to Roo's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Well i guess they will have fun playing Minor League Soccer here in America when they could be becoming legends at the Pouch. If such a mass departure does occur, it is a stab in the back to the fans. -
I will be there cheering him...i can tell you that.I love my Browns but i'm secretly hoping he just goes off and lights us up. It wont happen but hey i can dream.
-
I forgot about him. It is kind of fate really.Cruz drops footballs, Hofstra drops football.LOL...If i remember one play from that Buffalo game it'll be that one forever.

Sorry, but I'm not about to drive over an hour to watch a UNC branch campus get stomped. I'm sure that was the mindset of most students. Also, if we arent going to get a new arena, can we at least get rid of that stupid track? I guarantee more students would sit with the Rowdies if it weren't on little portable bleachers. I'm probably in the minority on here, but not all of us are best buds with the rest of the AK-Rowdies. I guess I'm saying that the casual student is being scared away by the JAR's poor design. Who ever designed the JAR should be shot. It's just lame how low the turnouts are overall. You should want to come see EVERY game you can if you're a fan. Hey i love the big game atmosphere as much as anyone but i also love pounding on some mismatched team every so often as well. Now if you aren't best buds with the Rowdies come sit on the North side lower level, that is the reason most of us do. It is the opposite side of the main Rowdies section and we all kind of just have fun and do what we want. Seriously, come join us sometime.

UNC message boards
RootforRoo44 replied to joshgozips's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Final entry on that board for that thread:RE: GAME THREAD: Akron 5, UNC 4 - National Semi Game 2 - PKs --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Nice run for men's soccer, I was calling for Elmar's head back in the 90s but he turned it around this decade. Reality is Akron will lose their coach next season to the MLS or a bigger school, then we'll have another shot.See you next year! haha, guess we dont have our coach now eh?I hate UNC. -
As bad as we were this year, they should be cheaper.I cant see anyone paying 15-20 dollars per GA ticket to watch that sorry excuse for college football.I'm confident we will turn it around but it may not be in 2k10
-
I think he means UNCG, not UNCC.....Yes, my mistake. Typed it quickly. Btw, let me add that tonight was one of the lamest turnouts by fans i've seen at the JAR.I understand students being on break but man, no one wants to come out to watch an NCAA tournament team?!

Can't ranked 2nd dumbest "College Town"
RootforRoo44 replied to RootforRoo44's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
You must be reading it wrong. Can't is easily the dumbest town in America. Do we really need a study to tell us that?haha, i guess i didn't look at it that way....and it's probably because I spent too much time in Can't a few days ago when i got Pita Pit. I hear the stupidity/leftism slowly poisons you the longer you stay. -
A pretty boring run of the mill kind of game. We are just a better team. Hopefully this is helping us get ready for the bigger games coming up. Also, I have to say that Steward looked pretty good in this game.(UNCG BTW)

I know GK's are the default votes for Defensive MVP awards, but Holy Cow, that UVa defender, Volks, was EVERYWHERE on Sunday! Must have set some record for blocked shots/passes. Just giving credit where it's due -- in fact Virgina would have had a much harder time keeping us off the scoreboard without him. He was like the Ndamukong Suh of College Cup.+1 I don't know what year here is in, but Volks is ready for a higher level of soccer right now. And that's not to take anything away from Diego. He was superb for the last 1/2 of the season. No doubt, that guy broke up at least 3 plays that could/should have been solid shots at goal. He really got the Rowdies going after one of them as well when he fist pumped right in our faces and did a "bring it on" motion. I loved the fierce play of that game.
