  1. Anyone want that one-and-done season again? Kent went from Hazel to Alumni Paul Haynes. WMU went from Fleck to alumni Tim Lester. Anyone else see a pattern here? The good thing for us though is that this hire might make our return visit to WMU this season a winnable game.
  2. I liked this post so much I had to quote it so it could be reposted.
  3. One that will likely screw-over the Mid-Majors as much as possible.
  4. Good Point.
  5. So they've kept the 50k salary, but now down to 4 teams. They'd have to find a way to support themselves financially for a few years for this to work. Leagues like this will hurt the lower rungs of College football, but not the top IMHO.
  6. Depends, but usually collaborative agreements involve exchanges in cultural studies and/or enrichment (faculty and students), like exchange programs (study abroad etc...); researchers at both universities to form collaborative exchange of information in research/developing research projects jointly. Among other things of course depending upon the circumstances. It is a great thing, because it's another opportunity for students to get a one-of-a-kind experience at the University of Akron as well as keeping up with the Joneses. It is a popular thing with business programs...engineering programs, design programs and the sort these days.
  7. Holy crap that was awfully painful to read. I think reading it made my flu worse.
  8. And Universities are stupid for it. $12-million over six years for Darrell Hazel? Hope was getting payed like $970,000 and they dramatically increased it for what? No better off? Idiots. Especially when your highest paid research professors at Perdue make about $115,000. It's disgusting really.
  9. Why? I love Harbaugh at Michigan.
  10. +1. To everything you said. I'd like to point out that riding coattails is something that has people who are completely unrelated, directly benefitting from the success of someone in the same party. So riding the coattails hardly applies. People can be damn good at what they do because they learned from the best. It's one thing to have worked with a great coach. It's another entirely to have lived with one. You don't think that they didn't have family father-son times where they watched/analyzed football? That doesn't mean all children become identical carbon copies of their parents, but it also doesn't mean they ride their coattails either. I bet there's plenty of us here who have many skills we got learning from our parents, being good at whatever it is they do. You don't become the SEC coach of the year because your dad was head coach of FSU. You earn that in your own right. Really, objectively, everywhere Terry has gone he has been successful. The only "blemish" is Akron. So either it's because he's overrated and not that good, or because Akron was in that deep of a whole and devoid any future, that it's hard for even a successful coach to dig back out. But seriously are Akron fans really this delusional? Take your pick.
  11. It's always interesting how they reuse hype music in trailers, definitely heard that "epic" song in this trailer first. One about a mass extinction event...one about Bobby Bowden...certain interesting to someone who's seen it in both trailers about two completely different things. Certainly looks like it's worth a watch.
  12. Is there an echo in here? +1. Totally agree, but I didn't realize ESPn was losing money...that DEFINITELY points to a bubble popping soon. Huh, I wonder if Akron is going to be on the right side of it popping?
  13. Of course I don't know him personally, but for starters he said it about himself in his press conference. I simply don't disagree with his assessment of himself. Note: Not every young up and comer is a punk...but the likelihood that they're going to stay around long enough to build a stable and successful program isn't high. And TBH, I'm not interested in having Akron be the prostitute for some other football coach to take advantage of. Find someone who wants to be here, and build something stable. I don't care if their good enough to get sniped by another school. I care if they're going to stay dedicated to building something.
  14. I wonder how much Akron's enrollment went up after participating in the Idaho Potato Bowl? I don't doubt that Universities may claim that, I hypothesize it's more the exception to the rule (enrollment going up) than it actually having a measurable impact. ESPECIALLY, for the G5 schools.
  15. When I told my Dad that it ends up costing most schools to participate in a Bowl game, he was blown away. And I quote him "than why in the hell are there so many Bowl games? And why would you want to go to one!?" The answer is simple: Everyone is making money off of it, except really the schools and the ones responsible at the end of the day (the athletes). The schools rationalize it as "advertising...can't put a price tag on national advertising!" The Bowl system is a bubble just waiting to pop. As for us fans, we need to find being okay with NOT being a top prestiege program. What is it do we want? Watch a team that can find way to win, or dreaming about something that simply is never going to happen.
  16. Great point! I personally lost interest around November, so I guess I'd be included in that (but it was with...other...things going on in my life that caused that, though the University was a player in it). I still watched every game. But OBJECTIVELY I though I would have (and am) upset the Zips weren't able to cash-in on a golden opportunity, I can step back and realize the true circumstance of this season; and had we made a second bowl game I would have in the end considered it a success. 5-7 is definitely a down year. 6-6 for a program that hasn't had consecutive .500 seasons...really ever in D-1 (maybe back in the Lee Owens era we did...almost 20 years ago), it should be viewed as a success.
  17. I take it you're self-appointing yourself to that position? If so...you'll need to put the R symbol in your signature.
  18. Totally agree with this idea. The MAC has really screwed that up the last couple of years. I'm hoping Kent vs Akron near the begining of the MAC slate will continue to be a thing here on out. That game would have had a lot more people than previous years, and this year we were absolutely blessed with good weather. Perhaps they could also do that for other instate match ups. I feel like you'd be able to draw more people (not a whole lot more...but more interest at least) in Toledo vs Akron earlier in the season than Akron vs Central Michigan...
  19. As the official ZN.O Bowden cheerleader...doesn't hurt to think about. Bowden's contract is up after the 2018 season. But I personally believe this season was an asterisk. We would have been bowling if not for Woody's injury, and two years consecutively to a bowl game would have been another notch never achieved here. Bowden is building a program. But a coach like Les MIles, too old to possibly get another BIG school look, and probably not ready to retire, with his previous success is EXACTLY the type of coach I would think about bringing in. I'm 100% against bringing in some hip young-gun like fleck, who will bring 3 good years, go one-and-done with a awesome year and bolt. I am NOT interested in bringing some punk coach to use the program for their own personal benefit.
  20. Why so we can be a one-and-done like Kent? No thanks. Bring in (or Keep *cough* Bowden *cough*) someone who wants to build something.
  21. Jury is still out on the local recruits. We didn't start getting a lot of them until last/this year's class. I'm interested in seeing how the local recruits rise to the occasion to put Akron in better standing.
  22. I wouldn't. I want an Ohio University style program. Not a Kent or WMU or BGSU one-and-done.
  23. As the official ZN.O Bowden cheerleader...doesn't hurt to think about. Bowden's contract is up after the 2018 season.
  24. No. Alumni Sports deal get ALL of the same benefits, and freebees as other season ticket holders. I haven't received a thing. Our season tickets are seasons tickets just like any other account.
  25. You and I agreeing on something is a nice change of pace I honestly feel like the Browns aren't going to take a QB until possibly the 3rd or 4th round, which would be a flyer. They're probably going to focus on Defense with the first three picks, 4th OL. Fully expect the Browns to trade down from that top pick...hopefully they don't, but they always seem to be hording picks to possibly go after "the guy" at QB than they do taking a guy. I said Trubisky would be the best, simply because I like his size. Watson, may be successful at a place where is isn't pressed into service immediately. It seems like a very weak QB class to me as well.
