The Golden Eagles (not Rebels) of South Miss come to the JAR Friday night to open the Zips' 2023-2024 home schedule. They are 1-0 after an opening win over William Carey University. The Eagles really turned it around last season winning 25 games in their first year in the Sun Belt Conference after three consecutive seasons with single-digit wins. They are led by Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year 6'4" senior guard Austin Crowley who averaged 16 ppg last season. They were predicted to finish fourth in the Sun Belt and are ranked 82 in the KenPom rankings.

I just wanted to point out that at 1 for 2 Greg Tribble now leads the Zips in 3-point field goal percentage!

Good call. Those guys are a reflection of their coach.

At the practice I attended before they left for Puerto Rico he was shooting and making quite a few jumpers.

Muscle memory can be an awful thing. One need look no further than Tribble's jump shot and my golf swing for proof.

Much of the team talks too much, even in the midst of taking an ass-kicking. You can talk when you accomplish something. Until then shut the ____ up and play. Tallandier was talking all night in the midst of giving up triple digit receiving yards. Both lines improved as the night went on. Whether they wore down the PCCC lines or just finally started to find their feet, it was apparent in crunch time.

I have to admit that based upon the extensive scarring on my Zips football psyche from years of bad football that every time Undercuffler dropped back in that 4th quarter I was expecting that rally killing ugly interception. I haven't seen a momentum swing like that in a very long time. I was sitting above the PCCC bench and you could just see the wind coming out of the sails of everyone on that bench after it went to 27-17. Kudos to the Zips staff for not letting the kids quit and keeping them engaged. That was a comeback for the ages. My $10 was well spent.

WOW. Maybe something to build on (at long last).
