  1. My idea, right or wrong, is that a beat writer's job is to convey information about the team and the games. A columnist's job is to give opinion. I'd prefer a beat writer that tells me what's going on with the team and occasionally provides me with info I haven't otherwise come across. GT gives me game and team info but veers off into the columnist opinion stuff. I also don't find much of anything new about the team in his articles. I get just as much or more info on here. Just to clarify, I wouldn't be any more or less pleased if he was a cheerleader/homer. Its a personal preference and maybe not a realistic one in today's journalistic format. Maybe his style appeals to some. My preference is Joe Friday's "just the facts."
  2. I posted the link because I couldn't explain it. LOL. My though is that head to head is even. Winning percentage is even. You then go to winning percentage of ranked teams, which you could interpret as the 8 teams that make the tournament. That could be good for the Zips as their losses against EMU and NIU would not count in that calculation. How's that for some jibberish?
  3. I was just thinking that. A little time helps I guess.

  5. ...and make Toledo with their 7 man rotation play as many as possible!
  6. They couldn't find the Paul Pierce wheelchair?
  7. For those of you who didn't get to see the uniforms in question-
  8. He went down like he was shot against the Zips and didn't miss anything.

  10. Still can't get over the 35 to 7 free throw disparity.
  11. Summary- JG is not happy.
  12. Glad I had to work and missed most of this one.
  13. The Zips head to the lovely Muncie, Indiana Friday night to face the Ball Stare Cardinals. The game is at 7:00 on the CBS Sports network. You shouldn't be able to call a game broadcast on such a limited network a national broadcast. The Cardinals stand at 7-9 overall and 5-6 in the MAC heading into Bowling Green tonight. Heading into BG they’ve had two games in row postponed with their last game an impressive 81-67 home win over Toledo. The Zips throttled a shorthanded BS team 74-42 at the JAR on January 30th. The guard heavy Cards are led by K.J. Walton at 16.1 ppg and Ishmael El-Amin at 15.3 ppg.
  14. This team had 20 points in the first half at Brimfield Saturday. 29 in the first 9 minutes today.
  15. Tribble's shot is still looking really rough.
  16. Reece and Freeman in together. That doesn't happen very often.
  17. Nothing like a 3-13 start to get you canned. He had 3 straight years of sub .500.
  18. After losing to DeKalb and Ypsilanti, they all concern me! I worry about teams with two or three really good players as in a situation involving a single game a couple of them going off can allow them to pull an upset. I see Toledo as the biggest threat, but BG, OU and maybe PCCC have the potential for couple of guys to get hot on a given night and get the Zips.
  19. I guess that's one of the advantages of a 2:00 game. It can always be pushed back to later in the day. Like NWAKron, I suspect they're still in town from their visit to the Agricultural Exhibit and Animal Husbandry Center.
  20. ...and most of the fan seating is like new! The SVSM/Hoban game and Founders Day facilitate a twice a year bathroom cleaning.
  21. Here's a blurb from the Beacon on the young Mr. Boyce in their high school spotlight- MARCEL BOYCE JR. Buchtel, basketball Boyce, a sophomore, scored 16 points in a 96-32 win over Ellet, 22 points in a 88-79 victory over Archbishop Hoban and 24 points in a 79-78 loss to Walsh Jesuit this week. He also recently scored 10 points in a 78-75 win over Medina, 16 points in a 88-82 victory over Cleveland Heights Lutheran East and 31 points in a 88-37 win over Ellet.
  22. You were expecting? George is worried about a Zips defense that is two points in average better than any other team in the league. Just imagine if he'd just report on what actually happened in the game and spared us the analysis.
  23. If Toledo can cut this to single digits...........................they can lose by single digits.
