The Zips get an opportunity to avenge their ugly early season loss to the NIU Huskies this Tuesday at the JAR. The good news is that the game is on ESPN3. The bad news is that it's a 2:00 p.m. start. Who wouldn't want to get back to DeKalb as soon as possible?
Going into Saturday's game in Brimfield against PCCC the Huskies are 2-10/1-6 in the MAC with their sole MAC win its 67-65 win over the Zips on January 12th. The Huskies had 7 consecutive postponements going into Brimfield and have not played since January 16th!
6'2" sophomore guard Tyler Cochran leads NIU in scoring and rebounding at 13.8 ppg and 7.4 rpg. He did not play against the Zips in the first game.
He is in for his defense as he is much superior to Trimble defensively. His athleticism is great and helps his defense but he has yet to develop a shot. Wynn is more interchangeable for Dailey and Ali as a forward in the rotation while Tribble is in the guard rotation.
As much as Riak could make us nuts with his bad hands and lack of offense, this is a game where his defense would make a difference against the dribble penetration.
I think we'll see a big Zips run the second half to take control back, then Miami will get back in it but not catch up.
They are committed to stopping LCJ, sending guys to double. Zips need a couple of guys to step up and make them pay for that.
ESPN app to play game video only works if you have the specific ESPN (EPSN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPN Classic, ESPNU) through a provider and ESPN+ does not include ESPNU.
I think the Zips get challenged in this one but prevail in the end. Miami can go small and wreak some havoc. Zips have to stop them in transition. Final score 74-68 Zips.
I've noticed a kid in the Beacon Journal boxes recently whose name might bring a smile to the faces of you "experienced" Zips fans. A point guard for the Buchtel Griffins named MARCEL BOYCE JR.! Class of '23, playing point guard with on a team with 5 star recruit Chris Livingston.
Yes, much worthwhile well reasoned intellectual debate followed by the inevitable reality on selection night that yet again only the tournament winner will get in.
Let's hope that in this weird year with some many of the blue bloods struggling than the MAC has a chance. I'm not holding my breath.
